Si hoc legere scis, nimium eruditionis habes.

(If you can read this, you have too much education.)

The challenge:
Translate this little Latin quip into another language.

The catch:
It has to be a [wp=Literary_language]literary[/wp] (which must be quite different from the vernacular), [wp=Classical_language]classical[/wp] or any other suitably old language. If you can read the vernacular, well, that isn't really any kind of erudite achievement, is it?

Optionally:
A [wp]gloss[/wp] (breakdown) of the sentence.

So here's the first one, an entry in [wp]kanbun[/wp] and Classical Japanese (written in [wp=Manyogana]man'yōgana[/wp]), collaborated upon at sci.lang.japan:

Kanbun (with kaeriten): 若読[sub]下[/sub]得此[sub]上[/sub]、教育有[sub]レ[/sub]餘
Man'yōgana: 毛之許礼余美衣者教育阿末利二安里

Gloss:
  • 毛之許礼余美衣者 【若し此読み得ば】
    • 若し 【もし】 if
    • 此 【これ】 this
    • 読み得ば
      • 読み 【よみ】 to read, continuative form (連用形)
      • 得 【え】 to be able, irrealis form (未然形)
      • ば conditional particle
  • 教育阿末利二安里 【教育餘りにあり】
    • 教育 【けういく → きょういく】 education
    • 餘りに 【あまりに】 excess, adverbial form (連用形)
    • 有り 【あり】 to be; to have, terminal form (終止形)

Um, I don't get what we're supposed to do o.o...?

So translate the sentence but into an old language? Like Old Spanish or Old French? o_O

Quip? Vernacle? *looks up those words*
Classical? Gloss? Literary? *looks up the links*

Not very helpful x_x... *tries to re-read them* ^.^

Whatever it is, it sure appears that you're not after a common translation...that'd be too easy o.o...If that's not what ye want...then what is? o.o
