Silly Questions...

Yes, I admit, these are probably silly questions. Why? Because I've been at college. I used to watch Pokemon religiously back in middle school and high school, but I haven't been able to watch in two years because, well, college and whatnot. So here's a breif list of random questions...

-Is that Mewtwo in the cloak in the opening? I thought it was, but can't be sure.
-Who is this Morrison guy, and why does he remind me of Yajirobe?
-Why is that Meowth in boots so inherently cool?
-Is it my imagination, or does the opening theme reek of Hubris now? I remember "I wanna be the very best" and now it's "I'm unbeatable."
-I saw Misty for a second today. Has she had a lot of cameos, or what? Cause I miss her.
-Why do they allow May to breathe?
-Any sign/mention of Mewtwo since Mewtwo Returns?
-I hear May has an Eevee? What's up with that? May's not cool enough to get the best pokemon ever.

-Yes
-One of Ash's rivals in the Hoenn League. He only appeared in one episode before the league but they quickly struck up a rivalry.
-It just is. :-D
-
-She doesn't cameo much but I think the writers just wanted to show that she was watching Ash in the League. Before now, she had two episodes in Hoenn and four episodes based around her at the Gym. She appears in another three episodes soon as well.
-Because if she didn't she would die.
-Just in the openings.
-It hatched in the last Japanese episode before Christmas. It's among the cute Pokémon and they go to May now.

BABY BOWSER! (Grabs and hugs)

I think Pie's mentioned Scott to me... Is he the May fanboy who fails to understand how much deeper a character Misty was than May is?

Because's she's the second most important character of the series, and is a very well-liked and developed character.

-I hear May has an Eevee? What's up with that? May's not cool enough to get the best pokemon ever.

So let's see, yet ANOTHER May basher on Bulbagarden? And people tell me I'm exaggerrating. :^O

Do you people actually have any reason for this May bashing? Or are you more obsessive Misty fans?

Anyway May got it from an egg. Seeing as how she has several important tournaments to win, she needs more Pokemon.

As for Misty, she gets 5 episodes in AG, and 4 Hosos, but other than that she's a recurring character like Tracey.

So wait, a character who amounted to nothing but losing her personality and becoming a mother is a "deeper" character?

I'm sorry, I'm not interested in characters who amount to nothing overtime. Try watching the anime sometime, it'll help.

Yeah, he's the one. XD

A few of my own impressions...

Meowth in Boots is so cool, yes. I love Meowth in Boots so much. Such an awesome Pokémon. More trainers should have Pokémon like it.

The dub openings are undeniably terrible now. You ought to hear the Japanese openings - they're a lot better. The Italian dub has pretty good music too, from what I've heard of it.

And most people miss Misty. It would be nice if they went back to the original trio, but currently, there's no telling if we'll ever see her again or not. Personally, I hope that we will - I love the original trio.

The dub content is pretty bad, and that's because they jam so much stuff in them and speed it up to 4x.

The dub songs, however, aren't half-bad.

After the original trio bombed together in Johto, they'll most likely never go back to it. That was also "Pocket Monsters" group, and now that we're in AG and heading to the D/P region, why would they go back to that group? We're heading into D/P land, the writers have no need to bring back an old RBY character.

Considering both Misty and Brock have been completely exhausted as characters and aren't interesting to watch anymore, what does that leave us with, just Ash? Thank god May has been established as the female lead, so despite all these rabid Misty fans, she won't be going anywhere.

Lame argument. The Pokemon anime as a whole is getting exhausting. Any changes they throw into it are going to mildly suffice for a while and then... get old all over again. They need to totally rehaul it.

..ah...ha.

Alright, I'll bite. I'm in college (so that excuse doesn't hold up), I don't watch the show religiously (but I'm still following the "plot"), but I can tell you right now, in an unbiased opinion since neither are my favorite characters, Misty did not get as much character development as May did. Misty went from overall I'm-a-brat-but-lemme-put-on-this-face-and-no-one-will-mind to WTF!mom without any show of it happening over time. It just did.

May went from being the girl who did not like pokémon to begin with (or did we all forget that?) and practically evolved into the girl she is now. She had a step-by-step growth pattern. Misty matured in the worst way: without a transition. Yes, Misty matured. May needs a bit more to go to reach that level, but at least she's taking it one episode at a time, where as Misty jumped from one stereotype to the next.

True V-faction, which is why we need "new" characters. Not bring an old exhausted character from 1998 back. Apparently the people on Bulbagarden have a hard-on for 1998, and anything AG-present is a travesty.

I'm glad the writers put the Misty fans in their place, they did it when Hoenn ended, and they'll do it again after the BF arc ends. Good times.

My main reason for bashing May is she adds nothing new to the series. In fact, she adds something OLD.

I'm sure we allwatched Sesame Street as kids. Remember how Big Bird was the main character, learning everything new? But then the producers realized that Big Bird had learned everything, so Elmo was turned into the star.

May's basically the same thing. May is what Ash used to be. She's not a new character, she's just a female first-season Ash. They realized that Ash is too experienced now, and they needed a new incompetant trainer. It wasn't an inherently bad decision, no, and the fact that they're showing her constantly learning new things is good, but she doesn't really add anything NEW to the show, she just replaces what's been lost.

On top of that, it's pretty obvious that May was the main reason Misty was removed from the show. I started watching when the show first came out, and I've seen what the show needs. Misty was a good character foil for Ash, wheras May is just a younger, female Ash. May always felt to me like a failed attempt to combine first-season Ash with Misty, and just going it about it poorly. On top of that, the romantic tension between Ash and Misty provided some excellent hilarity, and many of us were expecting that to intensify as they grew. May and Drew are interesting, but Ash and Misty had been brewing since the first episode.

Now, I admit, I haven't seen much of the last season, but I've seen more than enough of May that she just feels unnecessarry. May would've been a fine character if she had been the start of the show, but they already did all the new-trainer stuff with Ash back in Kanto. It's sort of like how on Power Rangers, they now put in a new team every year... I'll admit that I've enjoyed some of the later seasons, but there was nothing inherently NEW about either of them. Heck, the coolest was Dino Thunder when they fully admitted that the new stuff wasn't working and they brought back Tommy.

To put it bluntly, I don't inherently mind May, but on the show (and especially in the games), she's just a female Ash. She'd have been a good character if the show didn't already HAVE an Ash. Ash hasn't matured QUITE enough for May to be a good addittion yet. I think if they more firmly ingrained the "apprentice" idea, that May is trying to learn from Ash before she goes off onher own, she'd work far better.

Now, I say again, I haven't seen the past season, so I don't know if May's done something intrinsically cool (Like saved the world from zombies or gotten... *gasp* character developement), but I haven't liked her since she first appeared, because she always felt pointless.

...Here's my challenge to you: List things that May does that neither Ash nor Misty could've done. (And don't say contests, because Misty would've been on those things like stink on a Muk)

Shine up a 30-year old faucet. My, sure looks pretty and new doesn't it? Let's just turn it on.... BLAAH! Yuck! Old dirty brown water? And what's that smell? I guess adding some new polish didn't really fix it...

Again. Overhaul the whole damn thing.

Bardic, the floodgates... why did you open them?

And you aren't helping your side of the 'argument'. You're looking for fights, aren't you.

The Contests are new. Her shoujo storyline is new. But you said yourself you haven't watched the show in 2 years, so you have no idea what's going on in it. Please don't comment on a character you don't understand.

May's basically the same thing. May is what Ash used to be. She's not a new character, she's just a female first-season Ash.

She has similarites to Ash, but she's also very different. Again, why are you commenting on a character that you haven't seen in 2 years? You have NO IDEA what they've done with her since she first debuted.

On top of that, it's pretty obvious that May was the main reason Misty was removed from the show. I started watching when the show first came out, and I've seen what the show needs. Misty was a good character foil for Ash, wheras May is just a younger, female Ash.

Misty was dropped because her character was completely exhausted in the Johto era. She lost her personality and went to a mother who clutched an egg in the background. That's not terribly interesting, so she got the axe.

Now, I admit, I haven't seen much of the last season, but I've seen more than enough of May that she just feels unnecessarry. May would've been a fine character if she had been the start of the show, but they already did all the new-trainer stuff with Ash back in Kanto.

Again, WHY is this a bad thing? To see a female trainer starting her Pokemon journey, doing the Contest route, and getting her own rivals and goal? Her storyline has become shoujo, especially with her interactions with her coordinator rivals.

...Here's my challenge to you: List things that May does that neither Ash nor Misty could've done. (And don't say contests, because Misty would've been on those things like stink on a Muk)

This is a pretty pointless argument. ANY character could do what another character could. Brock could have done contests (as shown in the newest episode), Ash could have been a breeder, Misty could have been a Pokemon Watcher, etc.

Please don't comment on a character when you haven't watched the show in 2 years, thanks.

Dirty brown water is rarely the result of the faucet... And even then, if you take it off and give it a thorough cleaning, it can become good...

But yes, I'd accept an overhaul. As stated, my main problem isn't May alone, it's May in comparison to Ash. I don't mind a new faucet, what I mind is having a second faucet when you're still using the first one. Turn them both on, and you get diminished water pressure from each.

As for the floodgates... I like to swim.

That wasn't specifically directed at you.

And YES, dirty brown water ISN'T the result of the faucet. So maybe we shouldn't look to the outside as the problem. We need to get into the heart and fix it there.

Stop using the Drip Master 67. We want the Gush Beast 2000XL.
