Skins hopped over the Atlantic, but it didn't work out. MTV in the US has swung the axe.

Skins has been controversial in the UK, but MTV's US adaptation generated extremely negative headlines in America and the show has now been axed.

There was talk that the show, overseen by Brian Elsley (who co-created the original with son Jamie Brittain), potentially crossed the line into breaking federal US child pornography statutes.

Skins, which revolves around a group of teenagers that are seen being sexually active and partying, has incurred the wrath of America's always-happy-to-be-incensed Parents Television Council (PTC).

In a letter to the US Department of Justice, the PTC said: "In addition to the sexual content on the show involving cast members as young as 15, PTC counted 42 depictions and references to drugs and alcohol in the premiere episode."

But in addition to unimpressive ratings, what probably sealed Skins USA's fate was advertisers pulling their support. Taco Bell, Wrigleys and General Motors, to name a few, withdrew their advertising.

Skins USA may now be history, but MTV already has another UK show lined up for a US remake: The Inbetweeners.

US adaptations of UK series tends to be a story of the good (The Office), the bad (Fawlty Towers/Amanda's) and the very ugly (One Foot In The Grave/Cosby).

I just had to laugh at the kiddie porn allegations. And it was probably toned down.

But please, please, do not fuck up the Inbetweeners, it's pure classic.

Oh PTC, I love how you know nothing of modern teens.

Skins USA was a waste of film anyway.

Skins is crap altogether. Nothing but a bunch of crappy, irresponsible whores for characters, for the most part inaccurate and dramatised beyond reality, as usual. And that's the UK version. I haven't even seen the US'.

Inbetweeners, though? Seriously, why can't you just air the originals, America? Please don't screw this one up as well, I love it. =__='

This made me happy, until I saw a US remake of The Inbetweeners. As if the UK version isn't crap enough.
