This is essentially just a guide to my series of Skyridge fics. The first one alone is sixty chapters long, so it's understandable that you might not be bothered to read through it all to catch up! Instead, I'm going to keep a record of the entire series here, there'll be a complete set of chapter summaries, character profiles, and a list of 'odd phrases', which is essentially a list of things that I've added to the Pokémon world that require a bit of explaining, such as new locations. Eventually, I intend to add a crude map of the actual Skyridge area, north of Cerulean City, but I'm not exactly a skilled artist, so you'll have to bear with me on that.

Eventually I hope to have a whole network of Skyridge fics based in the same universe, said universe merely being an extended version of the one that we already know and love from the games and anime. Ted's Story will be the main base of everything to do with Skyridge, but eventually I intend to write shorter fics surrounding this, such as back stories for some of the other characters, as will as stories about new characters after Ted's Story.

Basics:
The first thing you need to know about this fic is that it’s set nine years after the events of R/B/Y, R/S/E, and FR/LG, obviously meaning it’s also six years ahead of G/S/C, D/P/Pt, and HG/SS. It’s primarily set in Kanto, with only a few chapters based in Johto. When you first read it, it might seem like another regular journey fic, but after just under fifteen chapters things take a turn and Ted is swept out of his Pokémon journey to serve a much grander cause, but more on that later.

The fic assumes the Pokémon world to be designed like that of the games, but to actually appear more like it does in the anime, with the cities being more like actual cities and everything. I doubt I really needed to put that out there, but just in case.

The last main point is that, because this is set in the actual Pokémon universe as Game Freak has created it, characters that appeared in the games obviously exist in this fic, I’ve just put my own spin on their personalities, but again, you could all probably have guessed that. I'll only give summaries on these characters if they have dramatically changed from how they are portrayed in the games or anime.

I’m not entirely sure how to go about doing this. I’ve decided to give you information on the protagonist, and then I’ll give a few sentences to summarise each chapter, and then I’ll fill you in on the other characters, but if that doesn’t work out so well or it’s difficult to understand or anything then I can change it.

I’m sorry to those of you who want to catch up without actually having to read the entire fic, only to come here and discover this massive amount of reading to be done, but all of this information is necessary for understanding the next fic, and I don’t think I’ve done too badly to reduce sixty two chapters and an Epilogue to just this!

As for those of you who have already read Liberation; I’m sorry, but the next fic won’t come out for a while, I want to give people a chance to work their way through this before I start posting the next one.

The Main Character: Theodore James Fox
Preferring to go simply by the name ‘Ted’, this is the main character (as suggested in the title) of the story. Turning fifteen years old in the first chapter, Ted lives in Fuchsia City with his father. They had lived in Cinnabar before the eruption, where Ted’s father had been one of the scientists that worked in the fossil lab. Ted still considers the island to be his real home. Ted’s mother, Susan Fox, died when he was five in an accident on holiday in Snowpoint. Out skiing, she fell and broke her leg, and being unable to contact anyone, she froze to death. Ted leaves home on his birthday with the family pet, Scarlet the Vulpix, now his starter Pokémon, getting a ride to Viridian deciding to do the Gyms in the traditional order.

Ted is about 5’8, quite skinny, and has freckles. Typically dressing in jeans, a yellow t-shirt, a green, short sleeved shirt, and green converse, he also starts the fic with his hair dyed green, however as he grows up throughout the story he allows this to fade away. This hair is of average length, wavy, with his fringe coming down to the top of his left eye. However, his most striking, and unlike his hair, natural feature is the colour of his eyes, which are a violet colour, caused by a slight genetic mutation from his mother’s albino genes.

He idolises famous trainers, particularly Red, and is seen throughout the novel to become nervous whilst in their presence, although again, as he moves through the various events, this becomes less and less prominent. He’s also somewhat pessimistic, but determined, usually (but not always) willing to fight on no matter how bleak things seem. The main driving force in his desire to become a Pokémon trainer is more just to prove himself than anything else, always feeling he has to impress and not let anyone down, particularly once he is made an official member of the League of Skyridge. Another thing that should be noted is that he’s extremely squeamish, always beginning to feel queasy upon seeing badly injured people or Pokémon, having to stop at multiple intervals throughout the fic just to throw up.

Almost as soon as he meets her, he develops an attraction to Penny, which grows into a fully fledged set of romantic feelings very quickly. Oblivious to the ways of women, having only had a few male friends as a child, he fails to spot that these feelings seem to be returned, and also that Alice, a fellow League member, also seems to develop feelings for him.

Party (in order of ‘capture’):
Scarlet the Vulpix: Ted has already decided not to allow her to evolve, having grown up with her as his closest friend. She’s by no means Ted’s strongest Pokémon, but she’s probably his most reliable, and also the one that most resembles him. She often remains outside of her Pokéball.

Rose the (shiny) Butterfree: Almost as soon as he starts his journey, entering Viridian Forest, Ted is lucky enough to catch a shiny Caterpie. Despite her immense value, she is Ted’s weakest Pokémon, but also the most determined, desperate to make up for her lack of strength, and has managed to pull through on a number of occasions.

Ralf the Venusaur: After finding and saving an injured Bulbasaur just East of Vermilion City, Ted adopts him and he quickly becomes a trusted ally. He evolves into an Ivysaur fairly quickly, however his untimely evolution into Venusaur (this shall be explained later) results in the death of one of Ted’s other Pokémon, and at the end of the fic, Ralf is left with an overwhelming sense of guilt.

Fang the Aerodactyl (deceased): After receiving an Old Amber from the Pewter Museum as a reward for retrieving some stolen items, Ted brings the Old Amber back to his father in Fuchsia who then uses his old knowledge and machinery from Cinnabar to resurrect a male Aerodactyl who ends up becoming Ted’s main mode of transport and a powerful member of his team, however is tragically killed near the end of the fic when Ralf evolves into a Venusaur whilst riding him, suddenly becoming to heavy to carry. Fang drops his passengers as a result and is dazed as he tries to rebalance himself in the sky, and this in combination with a slight flair of overconfidence allows him to be hit by a fatal attack from the enemy.

Hakai the Dragonair: Given to Ted by Ledge as a Dratini, Hakai’s original origins are currently unknown. Hakai doesn’t seem to have much of a personality, being more of a fighting machine, carrying Ted’s orders out efficiently and without question.

Link the Gallade: Easily Ted’s most powerful and most interesting Pokémon. Assisting him multiple times before actually being caught, Link’s initial helpfulness is quickly made redundant by an apparent fear of battling. However, when Ted is in a situation of desperate need, Link would always appear at the last second to release immense and unnatural power, even evolving during a battle with an opponent that should have, quite literally, crushed him. However, after becoming a Kirlia, Link begins to show an uncontrollable violent streak; almost as if he occasionally lost control of his own body, his own face being riddled with fear as he tore opponents apart. Eventually he reveals his past to Ted using telepathy, showing that he was tortured and genetically modified by Team Rocket, making him extremely paranoid but also ridiculously paranoid, at the same time explaining why Link had been helping Ted against the Rockets before he even officially belonged to Ted. Eventually, in the last few chapters, Link’s violence becomes a major problem, and when Ted accidently allows him to evolve again with a Dawn Stone, Link goes on a violent rampage, killing several people and Pokémon brutally before Ted manages to restrain him back to his Pokéball.

Chapter Summaries for Chapters One - Fifteen

Chapter One
After having a very short fifteenth birthday celebration with his father, Ted receives his birthday presents of supplies and sets out with Scarlet the Vulpix to meet up with Baoba, the Safari Warden and his dad’s childhood friend who had returned to his second home that’s still in Fuchsia, who lends Ted his Pidgeot to fly to Viridian.

Chapter Two
After managing to capture Rose the shiny Caterpie, Ted hits the hay in the Viridian Pokémon Center, making it through the forest the next morning and meeting an attractive girl, only two months younger than him, named Penny, who decided to join him. Rose evolves on the way through the forest, living up to the typical easiness of training Bug types.

Chapter Three
After arriving in Pewter, Ted and Penny decide to visit the Museum. Whilst there, a hooded man with a Manectric robs the museum, leaving Penny seeming somewhat worried for more reasons than she was willing to admit. They stay the night in the Pokémon Center.

Chapter Four
After training Rose to evolve into a Butterfree, Ted goes to challenge the Gym, Brock’s Geodude proving little challenge to Rose. Onix almost instantly defeats Rose however, and the chapter ends at the beginning of a one on one between Scarlet and Onix.

Chapter Five
After an extremely tough battle, Scarlet manages to defeat Onix. They then have a picnic just outside Diglett’s cave as celebration, but Penny seems to act a little suspicious when Ted brings up the robbery from the day before. Just as they’re talking about it, Ted spots the man running into the cave and instinctively follows him.

Chapter Six
Ted pursues the man through the cave, and with some help from his Pokémon and what he thinks is a wild Ralts, Ted manages to capture him and turn him in to the museums, who give him an Old Amber as a reward. Eager to return to his father to resurrect the fossil, Ted and Penny decide to skip Cerulean and cut through Diglett’s Cave straight to battle Surge, after which they would head down Silence bridge back to Fuchsia.

Chapter Seven
To Ted’s dismay, the Gym is already closed by the time they get there. However, after thinking about it whilst staying the night in the Vermilion Center, he decides he could probably do with some training anyway. The next day, the go to the eastern outskirts of the city, where they find a Bulbasaur who has been badly injured by an Ekans. After taking him to the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy asks Ted to look after him, and so Ralf the Bulbasaur becomes the newest addition to Ted’s team.

Chapter Eight
After training Ralf for a bit, Ted and Penny enter the Gym to begin an intense battle with Surge.

Chapter Nine
The battle continues but Ted only just manages to win. After another strange conversation with Penny, during which she seems to get quite upset for reasons Ted can’t get her to tell him, the go to sleep again in the Center.

Chapter Ten
During what seems to be a perfect day walking down Silence Bridge, battling trainers and having a great time with Penny, Ted is confronted by a man who claims to be from Team Rocket. Ted simply laughs at him, defeating him easily, trying to convince the strange man that Team Rocket had broken up twice already over five years ago. The man claims that the other young man from Diglett’s Cave was also a grunt. After chasing the man off, however, Ted turns to see that Penny has become extremely upset, apologising for the danger she’s put him in.

Chapter Eleven
Penny makes Ted stop at the end of Silence Bridge, where she explains to him that the reason she’s been in Viridian Forest the day they’d met was because they’d been on the run from Team Rocket, who had apparently come back, completely over running and locking down Penny’s home, Goldenrod City. More dangerous than ever, the Rockets had apparently been slaughtering people in the streets for fun, and had managed to keep everything quiet by shutting the city down altogether, not allowing any news to escape from it. Penny, after both her parents were kidnapped, was the only one who managed to escape the city, desperately looking for help, but getting hopelessly lost before she found Ted. Ted agrees to set aside his goal of beating Gyms for a while to help her, as they continue to head to Fuchsia for help.

Chapter Twelve
After walking a little further, it becomes too dark to continue and they rest for the night. On their way to Fuchsia, Ted and Penny are confronted once again by the man from the day before, only this time he has two much stronger accomplices. Ted and Penny are forced to run, their escape assisted dramatically by the Ralts from Diglett’s cave and a mysterious assailant riding a Dragon Pokémon, moving too fast to distinguish. Having almost arrived at Fuchsia, and no longer being pursued, they rest for the night.

Chapter Thirteen
Upon arriving in Fuchsia city, the pair of trainers are put at unease as the city appears to be eerily empty and silent, with the Gym being closed. Ted’s father seems nervous and jumpy, but is still able to transform the Old Amber into a male Aerodactyl, who Ted names Fang, but only after Ted’s father explains that Team Rocket came out of nowhere and over ran the city, the citizens now cowering in their homes, however Ted and Penny don’t recall seeing any Rockets in the city. Ted starts to worry, and decided so go and check on Baoba, but he’s not at his house and Ted and Penny get ambushed by a group of Grunts, including the one from Diglett’s Cave. A young man riding a Flygon, dressed in a fancy leather flight suit complete with Go-Goggles sweeps Ted and Penny into the sky after scaring off the Rockets.

Chapter Fourteen
As they fly north, the man reveals himself to be named Ledge, and the one that had saved them from the Rockets at the end of Silence Bridge. He tells them he’d been watching Ted for a while, impressed by his natural talent, to recruit him to ‘the League of Skyridge’, a group of six powerful trainers who live on Mount Skyridge north of Kanto who do their best to try to make up for Kanto and Johto’s pathetic police force, fighting crime when they can. Ted and Penny decide to at least go with him to check it out, and are amazed when they begin to criss cross through mountains they’d never taken heed of and fly over a huge lake hidden in them all, with another, particularly large mountain on the far side, where they land on a ridge that runs along the side of the mountain.

Chapter Fifteen
Ted and Penny discover that there’s actually a village of refugees that live in underground huts on the ridge, that the League took under their wing to look after. Ted is then introduced to the unofficial leader of the League, Carly. The members all live in a cave with several rooms inside the mountain itself, and Ted is taken to the main meeting room where he meets the other members, Morgan, Kurt, Adam, and Alice. A mysterious Alakazam also makes an appearance as they begin a meeting.

Chapter Summaries for Chapters Sixteen - Thirty

Chapter Sixteen
After introducing himself, there is a short argument between the league members, whose personalities vastly differ (scroll down for info on all of them), before it is decided that they’ll take Ted in and train him to be a member. Ted explains and reveals all that he knows about the Rockets, troubling the other League members, and then proves himself to everyone by battling some of the villagers.

Chapter Seventeen
The next morning, it is explained to Ted that there is an initiation challenge that he has to take part in. He will be assigned a random Pokémon that he has never met before which will become his ‘Familiar’ (go to "Odd Phrases" to find out about Familiars). After receiving a Farfetch’d, Carly leads him up a narrow slope that starts on the ledge where the villagers live and spirals up the mountain to an upper ledge on the opposite side, pointing away from the lake, much higher than the first one, mostly plain except for one other small cave, and a rope bridge that stretches to another nearby mountain. Sunset Summit, the tallest mountain in the region is pointed out to Ted, and he is told to climb it using the help of nothing but the Farfetch’d. Carly leaves him on his own, and after crossing several rope bridges between different mountains, he finds himself at the foot of Sunset Summit.

Chapter Eighteen
Ted becomes more and more infuriated with Farfetch’d as the day progresses, seeming to think it’s useless. However, during a close encounter with an Ursaring about halfway up the mountain near the end of the day, Farfetch’d saves him, and the pair bond.

Chapter Nineteen
Ted and Farfetch’d finally reach the summit as, rather fittingly, the sun begins to set. Upon arrival, Ted finds a Xatu, staring endlessly into the sun, that begins to use its telepathy to talk to him. It claims to be Kurt’s Familiar, and tells Ted many things, including the fact that the rest of the League had made a short stealth mission into Goldenrod in Ted’s absence, where they had found and saved Penny’s parents, however her father had received a fatal injury, and was dying in one of the medical caves on Mount Skyridge as they spoke. He also warned Ted that he was becoming over confident, and told him of how Team Rocket had become far bigger than anyone expected, and that there were still many dangers to come. Revealing to Ted that he should now be able to communicate with him telepathically from Mount Skyridge too, having gotten to know his aura, Ted and Farfetch’d are teleported back to Mount Skyridge, where he finds Penny by her father’s bed in tears.

Chapter Twenty
After Penny’s father passes away, Ted requests for an emergency meeting, where he warns the rest of the League about what Xatu had told him about the Rockets. Before the meeting takes place however, Ted mourns with Penny, who is torn apart by her father’s death, and has a short, encouraging conversation with Kurt. The meeting takes place, and it is decided that the League will storm and retake Goldenrod City the next day.

Chapter Twenty-One
A second meeting is held to make plans for the assault, which the Alakazam is also present for. Morgan reveals to ted afterwards that it’s actually Blue’s Alakazam, effectively acting as his familiar, as, although Blue wasn’t actually a member of the League, he had helped to found it three years ago, having been appalled at the horrific events that had taken place in all of the regions and how little had been done to stop them. During training, Ted asks Ledge why no-one knows about Skyridge, and Ledge reveals that there is a nearby temple in the forest at the base of the mountain range that emits a strange aura, that the League is yet to explore, driving people away. Ledge then gives Ted a male Dratini which he names Hakai. Ted wakes the next morning and is handed his very own flight suit, like Ledge’s. His is green, and the whole League takes flight on their various Flying Pokémon.

Chapter Twenty-Two
Upon entering the city, the League splits into smaller groups, and as one creates a distraction, Ted, Ledge, and Alice enter the underground to try and infiltrate the Radio Tower, where the Rockets seem to be holding their main base of operations. After getting into the underground, the trio are surrounded by Grunts, as well as Christopher, who appears to be a higher rank than Grunt.

Chapter Twenty-Three
During the battle with the Grunts and Christopher, Ralf evolves into an Ivysaur. Leaving Alice to take out the last few Pokémon belonging to the Grunts, Ted and Ledge pursue Christopher through the underground, defeating him easily once they arrive in a sort of underground warehouse, and just as the chapter finished, another man enters the room, insulting Christopher for his loss.

Chapter Twenty-Four
The man introduces himself as Alexander, and after chasing Christopher off with his verbal abuse, he terrifies Ted and Ledge with his excessive knowledge of Skyridge, which no-one outside of Skyridge itself is supposed to know about yet. Ledge is forced to leave after Alexander tells him that the other members of the League are in danger, but Ted stays for a two on two fight with Alexander, partly to buy Ledge time, but also because he wants the challenge. After absolutely humiliating Ted in battle, Alexander reveals himself to be an Executive of Team Rocket and leaves, having promised to leave Ted unharmed. However, Ted is then ambushed by three grunts, but is teleported to safety.

Chapter Twenty-Five
Ted finds himself lying on the street in the now chaotic Goldenrod City, accompanied by the Ralts from before. Wilfully allowing himself to be captured, the newest member of Ted’s party is christened Link, and Ted begins to make his way to the radio tower. He arrives to find Adam losing hopelessly to another Executive named Natalie. Ted enters the battle with his remaining conscious Pokémon to help, during which Hakai evolves and becomes a Dragonair. Ted then proceeds up to the next floor where he finds Carly badly hurt and unconscious, and Alice tied up, with Proton standing over them.

Chapter Twenty-Six
The chapter starts with a lot of internal monologue from Ted, describing what had happened to the Rockets after their defeat at Ethan’s hands six years ago. Proton is the last survivor of the four original Rocket leaders, however a few minutes in the same room as him tells Ted that he’s gone completely insane. During the battle between Ted and Proton that follows, Ted notices that Link’s powers seem far stronger than that of a normal Ralts, but that he is also a coward. Eventually, as the battle takes a turn for the worse, Morgan and Kurt arrive, scaring Proton off, but as he flies out of the tower, he triggers bombs, causing the whole place to being to collapse. Ledge arrives to help them all out, and after ensuring Carly and Alice’s safety, the team flies away, with the Radio Tower crumbling behind them.

Chapter Twenty-Seven
The team are all admitted to the Skyridge nurses for their injuries whilst Ted goes to talk to Penny, who is still in a state of depression after her father’s death, but after failing to cheer her up, he goes for some alone time, after which Ledge approaches him. Amongst some small talk, Ledge points out how unusually good the weather has been for the past few weeks, something Ted has already noticed (it’s mentioned a lot more throughout the fic, and by the time it becomes a major plot point most characters have pointed it out at some stage. Bear that in mind, because I won’t point it out every single chapter that it happens, that’d take too long. You’ll know when it becomes a plot point; it’s obvious, there’s like an entire chapter on it). Carly calls a meeting, during which they discuss what went wrong at Goldenrod and the fact that the Rockets have over run both Saffron and Fuchsia. Also, in casual conversation with Morgan, Ted finds out that Ethan never defeated Red at the top of Mount Silver, and it was his status as a liar which has caused him to fall out of the media’s radar in the past few years. (Sorry to any Ethan fans out there; I’m a sucker for Red, and you’ll see why I’ve done this in the not to distant future anyway). It is agreed that Ted, being one of the only members not too injured, is to go and speak to the Indigo League the next day, requesting assistance.

Chapter Twenty-Eight
The first part of the chapter describes how the Indigo Plateau has changed since Red and Ethan’s day; how it was more like a stadium now. If someone wants to challenge the League, they have to come at a certain time of the year, which people will have bought tickets for to watch as each challenger takes on the Elite Four and the Champion. It’s also televised. Ted arrives at reception, announcing the reasons he’s there.

Chapter Twenty-Nine
The various Elite Four members arrive, casually mentioning a rouge Steelix running wild in Hoenn that Bruno is helping to track down, so he can’t come. In this conversation, Ted also finds out that the Hoenn League have become somewhat incompetent since Steven left, which is why Bruno has to help. Ted explains everything that has happened to Koga (who apparently knows Ledge personally), Will, and Karen, and has to explain again once Lance finally arrives (note that Ted remains extremely nervous the whole time he’s with these four powerful trainers). Ted guides them to Mount Skyridge, where Kurt hosts a meeting to explain things to the Indigo League in further detail.

Chapter Thirty
Ted is surprised when he begins to learn new things at the meeting himself. Kurt reveals that Skyridge was formed by himself, Blue (although he’s not actually a part of it), Carly, Adam, and Alice, just after the events of Team Galactic at Spear Pillar in Sinnoh, designed to prevent something so dangerous from ever happening again, whilst also dealing with other crimes. It’s also revealed that Blue is the one who found Mount Skyridge itself, however no-one knows how as of yet, as the Unown that apparently live in the temple that Ledge mentioned in Chapter Twenty One emit signals that cause people subconsciously to not go anywhere near the mountain range north of Kanto at all. The reason for why they do this is also currently unknown. Kurt goes through practical reasons for choosing the specific mountain they’re on out of the whole mountain range to be their base of operations, such as the fact that it’s right beside the lake and the fact that it’s one of the tallest, however he also tells that they wanted to investigate the mountain and study it, as it appears a primitive civilisation had lived on it previously, although even how long ago they left no-one can be sure of. The reason they know this is partially because of the temple, and partially because as the League began to try and dig another cave (like the one on the main ridge with the meeting room and the League member’s bedrooms etc) on the upper ridge (where Ted had left for Sunset Summit via the rope bridges), they had discovered a secret room inside the mountain with markings similar to the ones found in the Ruins of Alph and strange artefacts. Kurt suspects that the civilisation may now be living in the temple. However, Kurt also tells of a time when the original members of the League went down to investigate the cave, only to get hopelessly lost as it played tricks on them (the rooms are like Lost Cave on Chrono Island in the Sevii Islands, only there’s no pattern to it). Kurt also tells of a chanting that they heard the whole time they were there, that they could only assume came from the Unown, and also that there was something there watching them that wasn’t the Unown. Kurt then tells of how the League began to take people in from poverty to live in the little underground caves on the lower ridge, where, in return, they used their professions to help the league, such as carpentry and construction, as well as cooking, medical skills etc. After a little more discussion, the Indigo League agrees to remain in contact with Skyridge.

Re: SKYRIDGE: Ted's Story - Liberation (Summary)

Familiars

A Familiar is a Pokémon that everyone, not just a League member, is assigned if they live permanently at Skyridge. The only exception is Blue, who has a Familiar without living at Skyridge. They are essentially just Pokémon who stay and train with each other at the mountain at all times in case the mountain was to come under attack while the League was away. The Familiars also serve different purposes to their master depending on what kind of Pokémon it is, for example, Farfetch’d, Ted’s Familiar, can scout the area or deliver mail etc. For a regular person who lives at Skyridge, a Familiar is usually just a Pokémon that you brought to live with you that can help with your job, like the nurses’ Chansey and Blissey. However, if you wish to become an actual League member, you are assigned a Pokémon randomly, and you are put through a bonding exercise with said Pokémon in which you must scale Sunset Summit and speak to Xatu with just that Pokémon’s help; you aren’t even allowed to bring items. This is a test of how good a trainer the person is, and how easily they bond with Pokémon no matter what the circumstances, allowing the League members to decide whether or not the person is strong and caring enough to be a part of the League of Skyridge. To make the challenge harder, familiars are generally quite weak when assigned to the wannabe League member, and although they are chosen randomly, the Pokémon is also often a Pokémon that the trainer wouldn’t normally feel comfortable using. For example, Alice, an Ice and Ghost specialist, was assigned a Houndoom as her familiar.

Chapter Summaries for Chapters Thirty-One - Forty-Five

Chapter Thirty-One
After the meeting, Penny, desperate for a distraction from her father’s death, makes Ted take her to the canopy below to train her Pokémon, only to find that she’s terrible at it and doesn’t enjoy it. Ted suggests several things for her to try, attempting to cheer her up, and she shows mild interest in becoming a Ranger. After speaking with Skyridge’s resident Ranger, Jonny, about taking Penny to train, Ledge tells Ted that they’re going to make an assault on Saffron in the morning.

Chapter Thirty-Two
In the dead of night, Jonny takes Penny off to Oblivia to train as a Ranger, and after a heartfelt goodbye, Ted finds Alice waiting for him, and they have a conversation. Ted learns more about her and the other League members whilst Ted finally opens up about his own past.

Chapter Thirty-Three
The whole League, including the injured members that were forced to undergo a faster recovery than they’d have liked (with the aid of Chansey, Blissey, and their nurse masters), flies to Saffron. After splitting into groups, Ted, Alice, and Ledge find themselves facing Alexander and a group of Rockets just outside the Sliph Co building.

Chapter Thirty-Four
During the battle, Link, despite still being a coward, seems to be able to step up to the plate when Ted’s in danger with abnormal power for such an untrained Pokémon. When the Grunts are all defeated and only Alexander remains, it’s revealed that Ledge knew Christopher somehow before the events of the fic began, and Alexander challenges them to a battle in which they must use as many Pokémon as they want to defeat just one of his, a Golurk.

Chapter Thirty-Five
Despite seeming to have the upper hand, Ted, Alice, and Ledge get hammered by the Golurk who, much like Link, seems to have a vastly superior strength to that of a normal Pokémon from the same species. When all seems lost, Link bursts from his ball, evolves into a Kirlia, and catches Golurk with his Psychic energy just before it crashes into the ground and destroys the entire city with a massive Shadow Punch.

Chapter Thirty-Six
The force of the impact had Link not blocked it in any way would have destroyed the entire city; however the blast is still enough to knock down the Sliph Co building. Alexander reveals that he’d merely been stalling them as another explosion is heard from the north of the city, where the others are supposed to be. While Ledge takes the now injured Alice to the Pokémon Center, Alexander essentially declares himself a sadistic maniac to Ted, and that he doesn’t care about anything but causing chaos, before flying north to join his comrades.

Chapter Thirty-Seven
Ted arrives in the Pokémon Center himself, shocked at the number of dead and injured citizens lying around. Ledge comforts at him as he throws up into the toilet, and after healing their Pokémon, they head to the north of the city finding Morgan battling Executive Natalie and Adam taking on three grunts at once, with the Magnet Train station behind them partially destroyed. Ledge stays to help but commands Ted to go and check out the Gym, where Carly and Kurt are supposed to be, however, when Ted gets there he finds that the Gym has been obliterated and that Sabrina has been killed, impaled above her regular spot. Alexander is yelling at Proton, saying that he was supposed to leave her alive, and after the rest of the League of Skyridge (with the exceptions of Carly and Alice) join the crowd of grunts that are watching the argument that has now moved to just outside the entrance of the Gym, Alexander commands a shiny Beedrill to stab Proton (screaming for Giovanni’s forgiveness the whole time) to death. The chapter ends as Alexander announces himself to be Team Rocket’s new leader.

Chapter Thirty-Eight
Alexander announces the whole crowd that, while Team Rocket had simply been enforcing meaningless violence under the authority of Proton, now that he was in charge they were going to concentrate their efforts into a nameless goal. The Rocket’s cheer as their former commander breathes his last and Alexander orders a few to stay and distract the League of Skyridge as the rest escape with him to their main base in Fuchsia. Kiyo himself, along with his underlings, emerge from the dojo to assist Skyridge. As the final push to regain Saffron begins, Executive Natalie begins to reek havoc on the city with her Volcarona, however her and the few remaining Rockets flee upon the arrival of Blue, whose Pidgeot defeats Volcarona in one move.

Chapter Thirty-Nine
Ted begins to have a nervous conversation with Blue, who compliments him greatly for his efforts and encourages him to keep it up. Lt Surge also arrives, and Carly finally emerges from Sabrina’s gym, announcing that the Rockets had taken Kurt.

Chapter Forty
As the other Gym Leaders arrive (with the exceptions of Janine and Sabrina), it’s revealed that Janine has also been kidnapped, and it’s announced to the other Gym Leaders that Proton murdered Sabrina.

Chapter Forty-One
As other things begin to be explained to the Gym Leaders, Ted reveals to everyone else that he’s seen a few Grunts here and there dressed in what appear not to be Rocket outfits, but Aqua outfits, and so it is assumed that a lot of old Magma and Aqua Grunts have joined the Rockets, further hinting that the Team Rocket organisation is far bigger than expected. It’s agreed by everyone that an assault on the Rockets’ main base in Fuchsia will be launched in three days, and that the Gym leaders will get in touch with the Indigo Plateau and the Johto Gyms for help. Overwhelmed by everything that happened as everyone disperses back to their Gyms and to Skyridge, Ted tells the other League members that he wants to train alone for a while, and decides to fly back to his original, now entirely uninhabited island of Cinnabar.

Chapter Forty-Two
A few League members go back to the Pokémon Center where Ted heals his Pokémon again, where he sees Alice, who just has a few cuts and bruises and a sprained ankle. As the others leave and before Carly takes Alice home, Ted tells Carly and Alice that, after the chaos of everything that’s happened over the past few days, he wants to be alone for a while, and he flies back to his original, now uninhabited home of Cinnabar. Arriving to find that the island has returned to its natural state in the absence of humans, surrounded by jungle, Ted decides to take a look around first, and as he does, Moltres emerges from the volcano and flies east, and although Ted is extremely excited, he can’t help but realise that this is a little odd.

Chapter Forty-Three
Going into the jungle, Ted releases Link from his Pokéball to see if he can try to figure out why he’s such a coward despite being so strong. Sharing memories through telepathy, Ted finds out that Christopher had killed Link’s mother as he was a child, after which he had been kidnapped and experimented on by the Rockets. They had injected a serum into him, which was enhanced by a Wish attack that Link’s mother had used in her final moments, allowing him to escape. He now has an eternal hatred of the Rockets, cowardice from his past, a longing to protect those he cares for as he failed to do for his mother (which evidentially overrides his fear in times of desperation, as Ted had already seen), and power at least thrice that of a normal Pokémon of the same species and level thanks to the experimental serum (made even stronger than it was supposed to be by the Wish) that he hasn’t learnt to control yet.

Chapter Forty-Four
Ted allows Link to rest, having become emotional during the memory sharing, tries to train Ralf, however he seems to want to do nothing but sleep, and after trying to force him to do at least a little battling, Ralf stumbles upon a strange, turquoise stone, that Ted pockets, before falling asleep altogether; behaviour that Ralf had not shown before. Shrugging it off as nothing, he trains Hakai for a while instead and has a short flash back to the day him, his father, and the rest of the population of the island were forced to rush away as the volcano erupted just under nine years ago. Ted discovers a massive path of solidified lava running from the volcano into the sea, and following it whilst training, Ted finds a cave to spend the night.

Chapter Forty-Five
After a little more training in the morning, Ted flies back to Skyridge, were Alice greets him with some casual flirtation (although Ted’s lack of ‘girl skills’ mean he doesn’t pick this up). Suddenly, all six League members (with Kurt still missing) are teleported to Sunset Summit, where Xatu tells them that something odd has happened and that the Unown have been trying to tell him something. At this point a large collection of Unown appear, a few of them spelling the ominous statement “The Sun shines too brightly. The world has become unbalanced. He has awoken.”

Re: SKYRIDGE: Ted's Story - Liberation (Summary)

Chapter Summaries for Chapters Forty-Six - Epilogue

Chapter Forty-Six
After some cryptic conversation with Xatu and the Unown, it’s revealed that the reason for the brilliant weather recently (see Chapter Twenty-Seven), and also possibly the reason that Ted saw Moltres at Cinnabar Island, is that the Rockets have somehow captured and shipped off Zapdos, the deity of Spring. As a result, Moltres has taken advantage of Zapdos’ absence and summer has come early, and stronger than usual. However, the message “He has awoken”, according to the Unown, refers to something that Carly and Kurt experienced on a secret second trip to the odd temple in the mountains, during which they were nearly killed by a humanoid creature that seemed to be standing beneath a massive crystal in a circular room deep within the temple, before Xatu teleported them to safety. Xatu sends the league back to Skyridge Mountain.

Chapter Forty-Seven
Mostly a filler chapter; a man named James, a carpenter who owns a Scyther that lives at Skyridge, made Ted some furniture for his room, and Ted goes to thank him.

Chapter Forty-Eight
After Ted utilizes his new furniture to write a letter to Penny, filling her in on everything since she left, Carly calls a League meeting. The meeting, having been intended to make a battle plan for the next day when they would strike the Rockets at their main base in the Safari Zone, ends in argument between everyone except Ted and Ledge, who sit back helplessly until Ted loses it, telling everyone to calm down and giving a speech about team work. In terms of character development, this was a particularly important chapter for Ted.

Chapter Forty-Nine
Having been given their orders for the next day, as well as Xtransceivers, new technology from Unova, to communicate with each other, Ted and the others begin their flight south. However, upon entering the area of sky above the Safari Zone, it becomes obvious that the Rockets were expecting them. The plan formulated the previous day is completely abandoned as most of the League members are shot out of the sky. Ted and Morgan try to make a safe landing but on their way down Morgan takes a Seed Bomb to the chest and falls off his Heracross a good ten or twenty feet, unconscious. Ted uses his Xtransceiver to contact Ledge for help, who had already crashed into a lake not too far away.

Chapter Fifty
Before Ledge arrives, Ted manages to defend himself from a Rocket and his Scyther and obtain information about the whereabouts of the Rocket base from said Rocket. Ledge arrives and Ted tries to run off on his own to go to the base, desperate to prove himself useful to the rest of the League, but is stopped in his tracks by a Rhyperior and two Rhydon. Just before he is crushed, Penny appears on the scene in her new Ranger outfit and manages to use her Styler to calm the Rock and Ground types down.

Chapter Fifty-One
After Penny explains how she got to the field of battle and everything, it becomes apparent that the genetics of the Rhydon and Rhyperior have been toyed with; they are much larger and more powerful than normal. Ted and Penny run off in the direction of the Rocket base, leaving Ledge with the still unconscious Morgan. Penny manages to convince Ted that they should go and find the others before recklessly charging ahead, but just as they go to turn around, Christopher appears and has his Manectric use Thunder Wave on both of them.

Chapter Fifty-Two
Unable to move at all instead of the usual difficulty of moving with paralysis, it become obvious to Ted that Christopher’s Pokémon have possibly been genetically modified too, and he becomes worried that all of the Rockets’ Pokémon will be ridiculously strong. Christopher has the pair carried down a secret staircase in a nearby abandoned warehouse and, where Ted and Penny observe an interesting encounter between Christopher and a group of Grunts guarding a large gate, who should have been Christopher’s superiors, bullying him before letting him through. Christopher, now less cocky and threatening towards Ted and Penny, takes them through the Rocket base to Alexander, who is sitting on a throne.

Chapter Fifty-Three
After bullying Christopher a little himself before he leaves, Alexander starts to toy with Ted and Penny. The sheer size of Team Rocket is revealed; 50 commanders (like Christopher) all in charge of 60 Grunts each (3,000 in total). Also three Executives (the only one known at this stage is Natalie) as well as Alexander himself, Supreme Executive. Kurt turns out to be behind Penny and Ted, pinned to the wall and bleeding profusely having undergone serious torture. Using a combination of pretending the paralysis was still in effect when it actually wasn’t and the explosions that sounded the arrival of the rest of the League, Ted and Penny managed to escape, teaming up with Blaine, Misty, and Ledge.

Chapter Fifty-Four
After a short battle, it’s revealed by Ledge that all of the Gym Leaders have turned up (except of course the still missing Janine), as well as the Indigo League and Falkner and Pryce from Hoenn. Ledge also tells Ted and Penny that the Rockets are planning a getaway to Hoenn, where Rocket, Aqua, and Magma activity has all been rumoured recently, by using some kind of secret weapon. Alexander appears with Kurt and, threatening Kurt’s life if refused, offers Kurt in exchange for an easy get away. They of course accept and as Alexander escapes, a group of kamikaze Grunts arrive with genetically modified Electrode to destroy the entire base, including Ted and the others. In an odd change of events however, Christopher arrives and provides a distraction, allowing Ted and Penny, who he’d taken captive not half an hour prior, as well as the others, escape the base.

Chapter Fifty-Five
They escape the exploding facility to see Alexander and his personal guard flying off, closely followed by Executive Natalie who activates some kind of remote. The group meet up with the rest of Skyridge, the rest of the Gym Leaders, and the rest of the Gym Leaders, and begin to plan another meeting to discuss what to do after this battle, only to realise it’s not over yet as a dramatically modified Tyranitar, the size of a small skyscraper, bursts out of the ground.

Chapter Fifty-Six
As the various different Trainers spread themselves around the jungle, both on land and in air, they blast attacks at the Tyranitar as it shoots Hyper Beams everywhere. Ted formulates a plan and hitches a ride on Blaine’s Rapidash to get right underneath the beast. Flying up undetected on Fang’s back, Ted then releases Ralf and signals to get help from other Trainers to use Sleep inducing attacks on Tyranitar. However, just as the plan is about to be executed, the reason for Ralf’s recent, seemingly lazy behaviour is made obvious as he undergoes a delayed evolution due to his injuries when Ted first found him. Fang, unable to support the weight of a fully fledged Venusaur, accidentally drops Ralf and Ted who begin to plummet to the ground, and Fang is instantly killed as he is crushed between Tyranitar’s massive arms.

Chapter Fifty-Seven
Carly uses her Grumpig’s telekinetic abilities to get Ted, Ralf, and Fang’s body to safety, where Ted mourns Fang. Ted forgives Ralf and realises that it’s all the Rockets’ fault, not Tyranitar’s. Borrowing Carly’s Meganium, he stampedes into the forest, desperate to take down the Tyranitar peacefully so that it can be cured.

Chapter Fifty-Eight
Ted meets Karen and Brock, and then some more kamikaze, insane Grunts. Brock and Ted engage them in battle and Ted tells Karen to pass on the message to try and put the Tyranitar to sleep instead of attacking it. Due to ridiculously large and powerful Hyper Beams being wildly fired by Tyranitar at the ground, the Ted gets separated from Brock and ambushed by three Rockets. As one of them approaches Ted with a machete, Link bursts out of his Pokéball unpermitted and literally tore the Grunt apart with his telekinesis. Ted watches in horror as Link, not in control of his actions and equally terrified, uses his telekinesis to get what Ted now recognised as a Dawn Stone that he found on Cinnabar out of his bag and evolve into a Gallade.

Chapter Fifty-Nine
Ted continues to watch, stunned in terror, as Link, his own body beyond his control, uses a combination of his Psychic abilities and newly acquired arm blades to slaughter another one of the Grunts and all of the opposing Pokémon. Only one Grunt, all his Pokémon dead, remains before Ted finally manages to restrain Link to his ball. He climbs back onto Meganium and attempts to find the others; however, distracted by the horrific scene he just witnessed, he is attacked by even more Rockets and stabbed. Allowing his Pokémon to deal with the fight, he blacks out against a tree just after seeing a rainbow in the sky, despite the lack of rain.

Chapter Sixty
Ted wakes up surrounded by the other members of the League, the Gym Leaders, and the Indigo League, even Janine, who has now been rescued by her own father, Koga. Whitney gives him some kind of herb that helps him to move despite his injury and soothes the pain, but warns that it doesn’t last long. Tyranitar, still rampaging, arrives and they are forced into the southern area of the Safari Zone, the plains below the jungle, and the part closer to Fuchsia City. After a combined attack co-ordinated by Blue, the beast finally collapses only to begin using Explosion against its will, planned by Alexander. As everyone begins to escape, Ted refuses to leave, insisting that he wanted to go to Fuchsia and help evacuate. Despite being told that Tyranitar would blow up in no later than five minutes and that they had already evacuated as much of the city as they could anyway, Ted wants to make sure his father is alright. Escaping Ledge’s attempt to save him, Ted sprints for the city, somehow managing to make it to his house before Tyranitar exploded. His dad, however, has already safely made it out of the city, and as the herb wears off, Ted collapses, unable to escape due to the lack of Fang and he prepares to allow the explosion to engulf him, but blacking out again with a view of fire engulfing the sky above him.

Chapter Sixty-One
Ted wakes up in the medical ward at Skyridge. It’s explained to him that he was found on Sunset Summit, and that no-one but Xatu knows how he got there and Xatu refuses to tell anyone. The wound he received from the Rocket is shown to be much worse than they’d thought, but he’s going to be okay. He falls asleep again and by the time he’s allowed out of the ward it’s Saturday the eighth of May, with the battle at Fuchsia having taken place on Wednesday.

Chapter Sixty-Two
The next day, they have a funeral for Fang, burying him on the upper ledge of Skyridge. Although Morgan and Kurt had been seriously injured, they were also going to be okay. It’s revealed that not only Fuchsia City, but the entire mass of land that from Silence Bridge to the bottom end of the Cycling Road was gone due to the explosion, with the southern Coast line now move up to just below Saffron, Lavender, and Celadon. The government makes the reparations of Cinnabar Island to give those who lost homes in Fuchsia somewhere to live, and Ted’s dad comes to live in Skyridge. The force of its own explosion had killed Tyranitar. Everyone gradually leaves the funeral until eventually it’s just Ted and Penny left to watch the sunset on the upper ridge. They both vow to play their part; now that they’re involved in all this, even though they’ve only been adventuring for a few weeks, they weren’t going to give up until the world was safe again.

Epilogue
The only portion of the fic that isn’t from Ted’s point of view, legendary Trainer, Red, watches Ted and Penny as they leave to join the others at the end of the previous chapter from Sunset Summit. It’s revealed through telepathic communication between him and Xatu that it was Red who saved Ted from the explosion and that he’s been keeping an eye on the League for a while now. However, due to the fact that he wants the League, especially Ted, who he sees great potential in, to grow on its own, he tells Xatu that he’s not going to reveal himself until the time is right. He then flies back to Mt Silver to think things over.

Re: SKYRIDGE: A Document of the expanded Pokémon World

Character Summaries: The League of Skyridge Members
Before you actually read any of these, I’d like to point out that the ‘Appearance’ section for each character is essentially just the description given when they are first introduced copied and pasted. Their outfits probably change occasionally, but I never write that in, so unless stated in brackets otherwise, just assume that they generally wear what’s described or something similar pretty much all the time.

Ledge
Info:
Ledge is the one that brings Ted and Penny to Skyridge in the first place, and has since acted much like a big, teasing brother towards Ted. He’s generally quite laid back and tends to remain calm even when the others are arguing, so it’s unusual to see him get angry. He’s one of the founding members of Skyridge. He’s reasonably sassy and loves humour, and seems to just want to enjoy himself all the time. He seems to have a deep, lengthy past that’s hinted at occasionally throughout the fic, mostly because I intend to write a prequel to Ted’s Story about the occasionally mentioned ‘Nighthawk’ incident, in which Ledge would be the protagonist.
Appearance:
“He had black hair of average length, currently wind swept. He was wearing a pair of sleek, red tinted Go-Goggles, black one piece-suit, highlighted at the chest, forearms, and thighs with burgundy, obviously designed for flying at speed.” (The suit described here is the flight suit that all members of Skyridge wear when they go out on missions, although the burgundy areas on Ledge’s suit are colour specific to other characters. I’ve never actually described them (other than Carly) in Liberation wearing anything else, something I overlooked and intend to fix in Redemption.)
Party:
Flygon
Scizor
Golem
Arcanine
Poliwrath

Carly
Info:
Carly is essentially the unofficial leader of Skyridge. She’s assertive but kind, and has a natural ability to encourage and take charge of those around her, standing out as a sensible, confident leader. She’s one of the founding members of Skyridge. She’s kind, level headed, and always focused on her goals.
Appearance:
“The girl that had come out of the room was about twenty-five. She had blonde, straight hair that just touched her shoulders. She had one of those friendly but fierce faces, with blue eyes that seemed to dance with energy and anticipation, and an adventurous expression on her face, whilst still managing to pull of being rather cute, with a small, button nose, and a narrow mouth. She was wearing a plain, light blue t-shirt, a simple pair of jeans, and trainers.” Carly’s flight suit is accented with light blue.
Party:
Swellow
Golduck
Grumpig
Meganium

Alice
Info:
Alice is a sassy, sarcastic, cynical Ice and Ghost type specialist who never seems overly bothered about anything in particular. She doesn’t get worried easily, not due to a cool, collected personality, but because it takes a lot to get her to care about anything. Other than Ledge, she’s probably the member of the League that’s closest to Ted. If England existed in the Pokémon world, I’d describe her accent as English, specifically London, slightly cockney (apologies to those of you outside of the UK who have no idea what that means. If you watch Doctor Who, imagine Rose Tyler’s voice, if that helps).
Appearance:
“Alice was about twenty. She was very slender, but quite short, shorter even than Penny. She had bright, green eyes and long, straight brown hair, that nearly came to her waist, and curled out at the ends.” Alice’s flight suit is accented with purple.
Party:
Froslass
Vaporeon
Altaria
Sealo
Misdreavus
Houndour; Skyridge Familiar

Kurt
First of all, I mucked up a bit when I named this guy. I was trying so hard to give all of my characters names that aren’t already used for characters in the Pokémon World, but I completely forgot about the Kurt who lives in Azalea Town. Anyway, just to clear it up, official Kurt and my Kurt are not the same character. Kurt is the wisest, most intelligent member of Skyridge. He never looses his cool, no matter what the situation, and rarely shows much emotion. He doesn’t speak often, but when he does, it’s profound. Imagine him with a Jamaican accent.
Appearance:
“Kurt was maybe twenty seven or twenty eight. He was black, and had a completely shaved head. His deep brown eyes…-” “His muscles were nearly as impressive as Adam’s.” Kurt’s flight suit is accented with grey.
Party:
Tropius
Kangaskhan
Sandslash
Xatu; Skyridge Familiar

Adam
Info:
Adam is the oldest member of Skyridge. He’s an angry, arrogant man who dislikes weaklings and cowardice; remarks are sometimes made that his sheer lack of compassion renders him only being a member of Skyridge due to his Pokémon’s incredible strength and battling ability, as well as his tactical, war like outlook on fights. If extreme Smogon users who only play Pokémon competitively and look down on ‘casuals’ existed in the Pokémon world, Adam would be the most ruthless of them all. I tried to emphasise this even further by picking his entire Pokémon party from the ‘Over Used’ list on Smogon (with the exception, so far, of Staraptor, because he needed a decent Flying type for transport). He’s one of Skyridge’s founding members.
Appearance:
“Adam was about thirty, maybe a little older. He had the face of a man who had come through a lot, and then laughed at it as he blasted through the other side. He had grey eyes, which were strangely warm. Ted placed him as originally being from Hoenn, as he had quite tanned skin. His hair was short and black, and he had a crooked nose. His suit…-” “-…looked like it could rip at any second from his sheer muscle.” Adam’s flight suit is accented with brown / tan.
Party:
Staraptor
Tyranitar
Machamp
Weavile

Morgan
Info:
Other than Ted, Morgan is the only member of Skyridge that isn’t a founding member (as of the start of Redemption). He joined two years before Ted did. He’s a massive nerd who’s really into his technology; he’s the one that got and set up everyone’s Xtransceivers to communicate with each other from far away. He’s full of a wealth of general knowledge and understands things easily. He seems quite learned in the history and mythology of the Pokémon world, and his intelligence rivals Kurt’s. He also tends to get extremely fanboy-ish around famous trainers, such as Gym Leaders. He’s somewhat socially awkward, but has warmed to Ted, who relates to him easily as he’s the most recent member other than Ted himself. He’s also a specialist in Bug Pokémon.
Appearance:
“Morgan was no more than two years older than Ted, with long, brown hair, that came to about his shoulders. He was very skinny, but had a beaming smile, and glasses, amplifying his blue eyes. He looked like an absolute dork, but the kind that everyone liked because he was so adorable and funny.” Morgan’s flight suit is accented with yellow.
Party:
Heracross
Ariados
Ledian

Character Summaries: Other Allies
Before you actually read any of these, I’d like to point out that the ‘Appearance’ section for each character is essentially just the description given when they are first introduced copied and pasted. Their outfits probably change occasionally, but I never write that in, so unless stated in brackets otherwise, just assume that they generally wear what’s described or something similar pretty much all the time.

Penelope(Penny) Star
Info:
Penny is the first person that Ted meets on his journey in Viridian forest, and his only human companion until he joined the League of Skyridge. Ted has feelings for her, but is yet to admit them. Although she started off in Liberation with a Horsea and a Cubone, she released the Horsea on account of her being a bad trainer, but kept Sammy the Cubone so that he could be her partner in her new quest to become a Pokémon Ranger, something she’s exceptionally gifted at, having already made fast progress. She had run away from her home, Goldenrod, when she met Ted, as it had been taken over by the Rockets, who were also responsible for her father’s death half way through the fic. She’s quite cutesy and upbeat, although occasionally has depressive spells when she remembers her father or something bad happens. She’s fourteen at the start of the Liberation, but is only two months younger than Ted, and so is fifteen by the start of Redemption.
Appearance:
“She had a cute, pixie like face, with quite a reasonably pale, smooth complexion, that contrasted with her dark-chocolate coloured hair that fell over her shoulders in curled locks, beautifully. Her eyes were a brilliant blue, and she had a small mouth with full lips. She was a good four inches shorter than him (Ted), and very slender. She was wearing a purple hoody with a pair of average length denim shorts, and orange converse.”
(Midway through the fic she starts learning to become a Ranger; her outfit changes to this.)
“She was no longer wearing her old clothes, but rather a pair of red and white sneakers, denim short shorts, a blue and white t-shirt, and a red jacket with the Pokémon Ranger logo emblazoned on the top left shoulder.”
Party:
Cubone; her childhood friend, (temporary) Skyridge Familiar, and Ranger partner.

Walter Fox
Info:
Walter is Ted’s dad. He lived in Fuchsia City with Ted, but had worked at the Cinnabar lab before the eruption. As a result, he’s an expert when it comes to Pokémon fossils, not to mention the fact that he’s a handy scientist. He was the one that resurrected Ted’s Old Amber to get Fang the Aerodactyl. However, between a secret depression over the death of his wife, Susan Fox (skiing accident), the oppression from the Rockets in Fuchsia during Liberation, and the trauma of T-Day, Walter’s mental health has begun to deteriorate. Before hand, he was a typical dad, a somewhat nervous man, and, although seemingly out of work, heavily into Pokémon research.
Appearance:
“His father, along with his light brown eyes, was shorter than Ted, but only by an inch. He was in his late thirties, but was already starting to gain a bit of a belly. He had short, scruffy, fair hair, and a receding hair line had developed in the past few months.”
Party:
None / Unknown

Jonny
Info:
Jonny is Penny’s Ranger trainer, and one of the only two official Rangers (other than, now, Penny) that live at Skyridge. In terms of personality, he’s pretty much just that fun, adventurous uncle that’s always messing around and seems so much cooler than your dad.
Appearance:
“He had long, messy black hair, and hadn’t shaved in at least a week. He had bright blue eyes that were filled with excitement and was wearing a white t-shirt with a padded, red lumberjack shirt over it, unbuttoned, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He had blue, worn jeans, a pair of red and white trainers, fingerless, leather biker gloves, and a red device, about the size of a typical Poké Gear, attached to his belt; Ted could only assume that this was a Capture Styler.”
Party:
Buizel; Ranger Partner

James
Info:
James is a carpenter who lives at Skyridge. He’s a quiet, wise, friendly man who provided Ted with his living quarter’s furniture when he moved into Skyridge. Texas doesn’t exist in the Pokémon World, but if it did, I’d describe him as having that sort of accent.
Appearance:
“He was somewhere in his forties, and had only managed to retain the hair around the sides of his head. He was tanned, and had deep laughter lines with kind, pale blue eyes, and stubble all around his chin. He was wearing a red shirt over a large pair of denim dungarees, and he was ever so slightly over weight.”
Party:
Scyther; Skyridge Familiar

Beth and Muriel
Info:
They’re Skyridge’s resident nurses. Beth is kind, quiet, and caring, reassuring Ted after his injury at the end of Liberation. Muriel, however, is loud, impatient, and doesn’t seem to care about her patient’s comfort at all. She’s like one of those nurses that you see in cartoons when the main character is expecting some sexy nurse and then this angry lady comes out instead for comedic affect.
Appearance:
(Muriel) “She only looked about thirty-five, but something about her made her appear to be about sixty. She had extremely curly, black hair and heavy make up.”
(Beth) “She was a little younger than the other, maybe thirty-two or so. She had long, red, wavy hair that fell neatly to her shoulders and kind, blue eyes.”
Party:
Chansey (Beth) and Blissey (Muriel); Skyridge Familiars

Xatu
Info:
Xatu is Kurt’s familiar, but instead of behaving like a regular familiar by just hanging about Skyridge and performing tasks when needed to, Xatu spends every second of every day standing on the very peak of Sunset Summit, gazing into the sun, or when that’s not available, the moon’s reflection of the sun. He’s exceptionally wise, wiser even than Kurt, and seems to have an infinite wealth of knowledge. He also seems to have a mild precognitive ability, able to sense that the Rockets had captured Zapdos long before the others knew it had happened. Not only that, but he was able to sense Zapdos’ presence as it was transported out of Kanto, although lost track of it when it went further than his Psychic reach. He also seems to have some kind of contact with the Unown that live in the temple nearby. He is able to contact all of the members of Skyridge, or anyone else for that matter, simultaneously through telepathy, so long as they are in Skyridge.
Appearance:
I’m sure you all know, but if you’re kind of new to Pokémon, look up Xatu on Bulbapedia.
Party:
N/A

Re: SKYRIDGE: A Document of the expanded Pokémon World

Character Summaries: Enemies
Before you actually read any of these, I’d like to point out that the ‘Appearance’ section for each character is essentially just the description given when they are first introduced copied and pasted. Their outfits probably change occasionally, but I never write that in, so unless stated in brackets otherwise, just assume that they generally wear what’s described or something similar pretty much all the time.

Supreme Executive: David Alexander Coleman
Info:
Going by his middle name, Alexander is the current leader of Team Rocket. He appears to be from a wealthy background, looking down on virtually everyone and talking in a very posh manner. However, in the heat of battle, he displays traits that cause the members of Skyridge to question his sanity, getting giddy and bloodthirsty, even at the sight of his own Pokémon’s defeat, and often succumbs to bouts of manic laughter when talking about extremely dark topics. He tends to get angry very easily too, killing his predecessor, Proton, ruthlessly, swiftly, and without mercy or emotion, taking his place without a moments notice. He seems to have developed an outlook upon Ted that isn’t really of being bitter enemies but rather as a rival, seeming to be more impressed than angry by Ted, even when he lost. This is reflected even further by the fact that while Ted has a shiny Butterfree, Alexander has a shiny Beedrill.
Appearance:
“Standing in the metal door frame was a tall, slender man of about twenty years of age…-” “-…He had blonde, almost white hair that was of average length, arranged into a vague comb over, with the front slipping down over his forehead. As he stepped forward the light revealed a striking pair of electric blue eyes, a pointy nose, a very square jaw, and a sneering mouth of stunningly white teeth. He was clad in a fitted, white blazer and trousers, with a black shirt and red bow tie, with black, pointy shoes. The blazer had the Rocket emblem stitched onto the left of his chest.” Near the end of Liberation, once Alexander has gone a little mad with power upon becoming the leader of Team Rocket, he changes his outfit slightly by swapping the colours of the bow tie and shirt; the shirt now being blood red and the bow tie being black instead of the other way around. Also, his eyes slowly become filled with more and more madness as the fic goes on.
Party:
Caturne
Golurk
Salamence
Lucario
Beedrill (Shiny)
Milotic

Alexander’s Personal Guards
Info:
As of the end of Liberation, not much is known about them. They only appear very briefly near the end of the fic. The reason I’m making a profile for them here is mostly to establish their appearance and keep track of their Pokémon Parties, but they will probably be given individual names at some point too.
Appearance:
“There were eight of them in total, four of them male, four of them female. They were clad in the regular Grunt uniform, only the colours had been inversed, the R being black and the rest being red, with the boots also being black.”
Parties:
Male one: Gliscor
Male two: Skarmory
Male three: Honchkrow
Male Four: Archepos
Female One: Pelipper
Female Two: Drifblim
Female Three: Togekiss
Female Four: Swoobat

Supreme Executive: Proton
Info:
Proton is the only surviving Executive from the events that took place in the Goldenrod Radio Tower six years ago (in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver versions). The rest either committed suicide or died trying to escape from the police. As a result, he went insane. He toys with his enemies, even after killing them, seeming to enjoy tearing them apart and taking pleasure at the sight of blood. He terrified all of the members of Skyridge simply through his sheer insanity. After killing Gym Leader Sabrina, going against the plan (she was supposed to be captured alive and held ransom), Alexander grows tired of him and his insanity, using his Shiny Beedrill to kill him and take his place as Supreme Executive of Team Rocket.
Appearance:
If you don’t already know, just look up Proton on Bulbapedia and imagine him more messy and crazy.
Party:
Weezing
Crobat
Zangoose
Claydol
Garchomp
Probopass

Executive: Natalie
Info:
As of the end of Liberation, Natalie is the only one of the three Executives that the League of Skyridge has encountered so far. She’s a stubborn, harsh lady that hates losing and has a short temper. She’s extremely immature, but very capable and strong.
Appearance:
“…and another lady, of about Alice’s age, wearing a red T-shirt, with a large, black ‘R’ printed on it, and a white jacket, with a pair of white, denim shorts and black tights, finished off with a pair of typical, white trainers. She was pale, with blood red hair to match her T-shirt flowing down a few inches past her shoulders in curled locks. She had a small nose, and a pointy chin with thin lips. Ted couldn’t tell what colour her eyes were exactly, but from where he was standing, they looked black.”
Party:
Camerupt
Vileplume
Starmie
Volcarona

Commander: Christopher Marcus Peterson
Christopher is one of Team Rocket’s fifty Commanders, which appears to be the rank below Executive. He seems to enjoy forceful, power based techniques, contrasting to the way that both Proton and Alexander seem to enjoy toying with their targets. He seems to be somewhat desperate for power, losing control of himself when it’s obvious that he’s at an advantage to those around him, taking out his rage on his enemies. The reason for this appears to be that, within Team Rocket itself, he gets bullied, even by the people he’s supposed to be in charge of. He has few social skills and appears weak (in terms of personality), becomes afraid easily at the first sign of someone being stronger than him, and is desperate to impress those around him. He’s a specialist in Electric type Pokémon.
Appearance:
“He was no more than twenty two, he had long, greasy, black hair, and his mouth was too big for his face. He looked pale, but not like Penny, he looked sickly, and he was very thin.” It’s not mentioned in this description, but his hair tends to cover most of his face a lot of the time. When he’s not wearing a typical Rocket uniform, he simply wears a black hoody and jeans.
Party:
Manectric
Magnezone
Electivire

DON'T READ THE FOLLOWING SPOILER IF YOU'RE ONLY LOOKING AT THIS ATLAS THREAD TO CATCH UP ON LIBERATION AND NOT REDEMPTION.
Christopher actually leaves Team Rocket and joins the League of Skyridge near the start of Redemption. If you want to find out about how he's changed since then, look at the first spoiler on the "Character Summaries: Members of the League of Skyridge" post.

Re: SKYRIDGE: A Document of the expanded Pokémon World

Locations: The Skyridge Mountain

Most of Skyridge is set in areas that you’ll already know, being based in the same universe as the canon, but I’ve added a few areas myself. Eventually, as I’ve mentioned, I intend to draw crude maps of these places to help you all get a better idea of them.

Skyridge Mountain
The Skyridge Mountain is where the League of Skyridge operates from. Of the entire, huge mountain range north of Kanto, Skyridge is one of the tallest, and is the second tallest within a good few miles of itself. It’s also far enough into the mountain range to not be visible at all from Kanto unless one was to be flying particularly high. There’s a massive lake, dubbed the Skyridge Lake almost right in the center of the mountain range. The Skyridge Mountain is right at the north-east ‘corner’ of this lake.

It has two huge ledges, which are essentially massive, flat areas jutting out of the side of the mountain. The first and largest of the two faces south towards Kanto. It’s where all of the residents of Skyridge live. When people have essentially been screwed over by the world, left with nothing, Skyridge secretly invites them in to live on the mountain, in a utopia, where there’s no electricity or money or any form of contact (other than the League themselves) with the outside world. There are carpenters, nurses, cooks, and all sorts of other people from all over the Pokémon world that depend on each other for survival. In all, there’s maybe forty or fifty people living on the Skyridge Mountain other than the League, and as a result, the surface of the ledge is covered in small tents. These tents aren’t the homes of the people, but rather the small, underground caves that have been dug out, that the tents cover the entrances too, are where most of the people of Skyridge live.

There is also, however, a cave dug out of the side of the mountain where the ledge is too, where the League of Skyridge live. There are living quarters dug out of the side of this main cave for each member, and at the end of the main cave, there’s a larger room for meetings that has a few chairs and a massive, round, stone table in the center.

The second of these two ledges is smaller, is on the northern side of the mountain, and is also situated closer to the summit. There is a stair case that goes round the western side of the mountain for travelling between the two ledges. This second ledge currently has nothing on it other than a small cave built into the side of the mountain, inside of which many artefacts were found from an unknown, ancient community that appear to have previously lived on the mountain. This ledge also has the rope bridge that leads to Sunset Summit.

Re: SKYRIDGE: A Document of the expanded Pokémon World

Locations: Sunset Summit

Most of Skyridge is set in areas that you’ll already know, being based in the same universe as the canon, but I’ve added a few areas myself. Eventually, as I’ve mentioned, I intend to draw crude maps of these places to help you all get a better idea of them.

Sunset Summit
Sunset Summit is the tallest mountain in the entire mountain range. It’s further north and slightly further east than Skyridge, but it’s not too far away and there are only a few mountains between the two. A rope bridge on the upper ledge of the Skyridge Mountain connects to an artificial ledge on the closest mountain to the north. Another rope bridge connects this ledge to another artificial ledge on a third mountain to the east. Finally, one last rope bridge connects this ledge to Sunset Summit; therefore, you can walk from Mount Skyridge to Sunset Summit in a short space of time, were before the bridges were put in place, you’d have had to descend from Mount Skyridge, make your way through the jungle that runs at the base of all the mountains in the mountain range, and then climb to Sunset Summit, which could take several days. Climbing Sunset Summit itself takes about two days on average. The rope bridges actually slope downwards from Skyridge to Sunset Summit, so by the time you reach Sunset Summit, while you had been fairly high up on Mount Skyridge, you’re pretty much (although not quite) at the bottom of it.

Sunset Summit plays a vital role in recruiting new members to the League of Skyridge. Those who have been selected by the League as candidates to join are assigned a Pokémon, often a kind of Pokémon that they wouldn’t be use to using (for example, Alice, a Ghost and Ice specialist, was assigned a Houndour), to assist them in ascending the mountain. They are not allowed any other Pokémon with them, or items, and the idea is that it’s a test of how easily you bond with Pokémon and how resourceful you are; if you aren’t tough enough to make it up in three days, then you’re definitely not tough enough to join the League. This is a particular challenge as Sunset Summit is home to several dangerous Pokémon, and is easily one of the hardest mountains in the regions to scale due to its steepness and jagged terrain, with many obstacles being sheer, rocky walls.

Sunset Summit is also the makeshift ‘home’ to Kurt’s familiar, Xatu. Xatu stands at the top, gazing into the sun (or moon) and being wise, all day every day. Once a candidate for the League reaches the top, Xatu judges them, and it is Xatu who makes the final decision as to whether they’re fit to join the League or not, regardless of how quickly they made it up the mountain.

Locations: The Temple

Most of Skyridge is set in areas that you’ll already know, being based in the same universe as the canon, but I’ve added a few areas myself. Eventually, as I’ve mentioned, I intend to draw crude maps of these places to help you all get a better idea of them.

The Temple
As of now, the specific name of the temple has not yet been discovered. Throughout the mountain range that lies north of Kanto where Skyridge Mountain and Sunset Summit reside, there is also a jungle. This jungle is not a mass of trees as far as the eye can see, but rather it weaves its way in and out of the feet of all the mountains, creeping further up some than others. Somewhere to the north-west of Mount Skyridge, hidden amongst the trees at the feet of the mountains, is some kind of temple. Little is known about it at the moment, other than that it was probably built by the same people who left behind the artefacts on the upper ledge of Mount Skyridge.

The exterior hasn’t been described yet in the Skyridge series, but the interior is known, as told by Carly and Kurt who visited it once, to behave in a similar manner to the Lost Cave on Chrono Island (Five Island of the Sevii Islands), only there’s no pattern to learn. Doors and archways lead to different places every time you go through them, and Carly and Kurt were hopelessly lost for quite some time. Unown live within the temple, but something else lives there too.

Eventually, Kurt and Carly say that they stumbled upon a specific room. For simplicity’s sake, I’m just going to copy and paste Carly’s exact words to describe what happened.

“Well anyway, we were hopelessly lost, and every time we tried to go back the way we came, we found ourselves being taken deeper and deeper into the temple, until eventually we found this room… It was made of solid gold, and it was huge. It was as if we were in a perfect sphere, except for the area at the floor, which was flat, and about fifteen meters in diameter, and there was a small opening at the top of the sphere, that seemed to have some kind of massive, green diamond lodged in it. The diamond gave off green light, and was the only source of light in the room, so it was really dark, but directly underneath the crystal, in the middle of the circular floor, was this kind of podium thing. It was like circular platforms, each slightly smaller than the last, piled on top of each other, with the top one being about a meter in diameter. There was some kind of figure standing on it, and because of the light, we couldn’t see properly, but that thing sure as hell wasn’t human. It spoke to us… It told us terrible things…-”

“-…Its voice… Its voice pierced my head, it hurt so much, and I was so scared… It told us that it had wiped out the people who used to live there; it had killed them all… Then it told us that we should never have come to the temple, and then it started charging some kind of attack… It was going to kill us… But Xatu showed up and teleported us away, back to here…”

As of the end of Liberation, nothing else is known about the temple.
