There is a place called Silent Hill, where unspeakable things have happened in the past. Where monsters roam the streets, and where reality is twisted into another dimension altogether. It is a place where nightmares dwell and hope is non-existent. It is a place lost souls end up, trapped in a purgatory of ash and darkness.

But there is something even more terrifying lurking in the town than there used to be. A creature of myth and terror, he goes by many names. The White King, Der Ritter, The Tall Man, The Faceless One, The Operator, Slenderman. A tall being wearing a black suit, a red tie, and with an empty white slate for a face. Those who are hunted by him know only fear before their death, those who are chosen by him become his faithful slaves. He rules over a realm known as The Path of Black Leaves, which has recently lead him into the cursed boundaries of Silent Hill. There, he stalks the lost ones, always watching…

You wake up in Silent Hill, unable to remember how you got here. What you do in the course of your “visit” will determine your fate. Will you find salvation and escape, or will you find death? Or perhaps, you may give in and simply join the man that haunts your mind…

1) Follow the ToS (Terms of Service, those things you agreed to when you joined the forum)

2) No bunnying other characters unless given permission by their player (Slenderman’s character, by default, is capable of minor bunnying)

3) No god-moding (Again, by default, Slenderman’s character has god-mode active as a default)

4) Keep cursing to a minimum, please.

5) If you want to get into heavy petting or whatever, do it over PM, not in the main RP. As a rule, if it’s more than kissing or hugging, it belongs in a PM or a private RP thread separate from the main one.

6) Please try to be relatively active (post three or so times a week, at least). If a character is inactive for more than a week with no prior notice, I’ll send a PM to the character’s player. If there is no response within five days, Slenderman either gets to kill the character or turn them into a Proxy for the sake of preventing the RP from dying due to inactive members.

7) Literate posts please; no chat speak, one liners, or posts full of emoticons or smilies.

8) If you have an issue with another player or any specific outcomes, please contact either me or Zolar about it, rather than posting in the RP or here.

9) Try to keep OOC content in the RP to a minimum; if you’re discussing ideas or want clarification on something or whatever, please make use of the discussion thread (aka here) or PM the other members.

1) Slenderman’s domain is known as the Path of Black Leaves, and only he and his Proxies can travel there at will. Characters that get taken there may have a chance at escaping back to Silent Hill or even back to the Real World, though in almost all cases characters will remain in the Path of Black Leaves until they are brought back by Slenderman or a Proxy.

2) Proxies are people who have been completely broken, emotionally and mentally, and are now servants to Slenderman. They carry out his will in the Real World, such as taunting victims or taking them to the Path. They do this in Silent Hill as well, but they are more dangerous and numerous than when in the Real World.

3) SH monsters exist as normal. Monsters from all the games as well as the movie are fair game here.

4) Slenderman mostly moves around in the Fog World, appearing much less often when the Otherworld forms. He will still appear occasionally and is much stronger while the Otherworld has formed, but in most cases he will leave the stronger monsters that roam the Otherworld to terrorize his victim. Depending on what he has planned for anyone specifically, he might step in to prevent someone from being outright killed, but otherwise will not interfere with the actions of the monsters (this applies to the Fog World as well). Also, the effects of Slender Syndrome are stronger while the Otherworld has formed (Slender Syndrome is explained below).

5) In cases where characters are “taken” (abducted into the Path of Black Leaves, either by Slenderman himself or a Proxy), a private RP can be done between the character, NPC Proxies, and Slenderman, if so desired. Because time passes differently in SH as opposed to the Path of Black Leaves (for the sake of this RP, at least), a character can be in the Path for weeks, but upon returning to the Fog World find less than an hour has passed. This will help prevent any weird time conflicts and also means members don’t actually have to wait a week before returning to the main RP. There is no time/post limit a taken character has to wait before being able to return; if your character is taken, your next post can have them returning regardless of how long it’s been since your last post or how many times others have posted.

6) If you decide you want your character to become a Proxy (see the Possible Outcomes section below), work out the various details with Zolar (who is playing Slenderman for this). You can also talk to him in regards of deciding when your character is taken, how long they’re gone for, how often Slenderman approaches them, and so on and so forth. Keep in mind that most of this will be random to keep the RP from getting stale and planned and Zolar has the right to refuse setting things up with you if he wants to.

7) Slenderman is pretty much indestructible in this, unless someone happens to escape Silent Hill and find information on stopping him…With that in mind, be aware that his character can bunny to a small extent (saying he grabs someone’s arm or something along those lines), and that pretty much nothing can be done to hurt him.

8) Slenderman, like the monsters of SH, will cause electronic devices like radios, phones, and camcorders to emit static when he is nearby, but only when they are turned on.

9) Slenderman’s presence causes intense fear in those near him (except for Proxies). It can be a good way of knowing when to run…or a good way of being frozen from terror and unable to flee…

Slender Syndrome:

Those who spend too much time in Slenderman’s presence or in the Path will begin to suffer from what is known as Slender Syndrome. These are various effects on a person’s body that range from mild to intense depending on how much time one has spent around Slenderman or in his domain. The less time one has spent around him, the less severe the symptoms, and the more time one has spent around him the more severe the symptoms become. Here is a list of the symptoms (note that they don’t have to develop in this order or even at all; it’s a sort of case-by-case thing, as different people react in different ways).

Headaches ; dizziness/vertigo ; nosebleeds ; coughing fits ; coughing up blood ; paranoia ; insomnia ; memory loss (occurs almost 100% of the time after being taken, with the victim being unable to remember anything about the time they were in the Path) ; blacking out ; nightmares featuring Slenderman (as he has the power to manipulate dreams) ; and obsession with the Operator Symbol (a circle with an X through it; this obsession usually manifests in drawing the symbol over and over again on any available surface with any available material, including blood if nothing else).

Slender Syndrome generally begins to manifest within a day or two of being in Slenderman’s presence or of returning from the Path for the first time, and usually starts with coughing fits. Again, this may or not apply to individual characters, who can decide everything about the Syndrome from when it starts to how quickly it escalates.

Goal of the RP:

There are different end goals for the RP, depending on what you want your character’s ultimate fate to be. If you want to escape Silent Hill, your efforts should be put towards finding out how you were brought there in the first place. If you want to become a Proxy and help kill/recruit the other characters, you should focus on trying to encounter Slenderman/other Proxies as much as possible. If you want your character to suffer some horrid fate too dark to speak of, work towards making it happen. There’s no right or wrong way to do things in this RP.

Possible Outcomes For Characters:

There are a number of different things that can happen to your characters over the course of the RP, but most of them will culminate in one of three outcomes; the character’s death, becoming a Proxy, or escaping Silent Hill. There’s a possible 4th outcome, but that one’s going to be kept secret for now and revealed privately to people should the need arise in the RP. Each outcome has its own pros and cons, which are listed below.

1) Character Death
a) Ability to bring another character into the RP who will have a better chance at resisting the influence of Slenderman and his Proxies (less fearful, less prone to madness)
b) Better chance of new characters to resisting being taken, or if taken, better chance at escaping Slenderman’s domain before normally being returned
c) New characters suffers less from the effects of Slender Syndrome
d) New characters are less likely to become Proxies

a) Because of being less afraid, new characters are more likely to attack Slenderman/Proxies instead of running, which may result in injuries or attempts at being taken
b) New characters are less aware of when Slenderman is around thanks to the dulled effects of his presence
c) All progress of the previous character is lost, and they cannot be “reborn” through the new character. Once a character is dead, they are dead for good.

2) Becoming a Proxy
a) No longer hunted by Slenderman
b) No longer affected by Slender Syndrome
c) Most monsters of Silent Hill will no longer attack a Proxy, save very strong ones or ones that have the most base animal instincts
d) More resistant to physical injuries
e) Increased strength and stamina
f) The ability to travel to Slenderman’s domain and, from there, into the Real World

a) When the Proxy mindset takes over, the character will be unable to remember what they did during those timeframes
b) Unless of a very strong will, Proxies will be unable to ignore Slenderman’s commands when under the Proxy mindset
c) Most Proxies cannot control when their Proxy mindset takes over, though it typically will not happen when in the presence of those who don’t know the Proxy is working with Slenderman (generally, a Proxy and Slenderman will work in advance to determine when the mindset is active, though as long as it’s not too often, players can decide when to activate the mindset on their own)
d) Proxies tend to be emotionally unstable thanks to their minds being broken in the process of becoming a Proxy. Those who have a higher will can usually hide their emotional instability

3) Escaping Silent Hill
a) Ability to research Slenderman and his Proxies in order to learn ways of hurting them, killing them, or even just keeping them at bay
b) Ability to return to Silent Hill in order to put any information learned to use
c) Slenderman will not come after those who return to the Real World unless/until all other active characters are dead or have become Proxies
d) Option to not return to Silent Hill and instead opt to apply any learned information to the Real World as a means of protection

a) increased chances of paranoia from dealing with Slenderman/Proxies/Silent Hill’s monsters
b) Slenderman will not himself travel to the Real World to hunt characters who escape, but will send many Proxies to stop the character (either by killing them or bringing them back to Silent Hill)
c) If a character returns to Silent Hill, they will immediately become Slenderman’s highest-priority target, even if the character didn’t learn anything that could be used against him while back in the Real World
d) Somewhat more susceptible to the effects of Slenderman’s presence and Slender Syndrome upon returning to Silent Hill, whether done willingly or by force
e) Characters returning to Silent Hill have a slightly higher risk of being turned into Proxies thanks to being more vulnerable to Slender Syndrome

Name: Krystal Tompson

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Description: Krystal is about 5’6” tall and weighs around 115 lbs. She is lean and slim, and has subtle muscles thanks to her habit of going to the gym to work out for an hour every day. She has hip-length burgundy hair and eyes that are such a striking shade of electric-blue they almost look like they’re glowing. She could be considered pretty, but sees herself as average in terms of looks. Her hair is usually done up in a simple braid to keep it out of the way.

Krystal usually wears lighter clothes, preferring colors like white, tan, and baby-blue over darker colors. She has several pairs of steel-toes shoes (a force of habit after she was nearly kidnapped in her younger years), and these are generally the only dark things she wears.

Krystal has three long parallel scars that run from her right side to her belly button. She can’t remember how she got them, but knows it was something bad that caused them. She has a habit of wearing long shirts to reduce the risk of anyone seeing the scars should her shirt hike up a bit, as she finds them ugly and is extremely self-conscious about them. People who do notice them are given a very curt, “I don’t remember” whenever they ask about them.

Personality: Krystal is a very social, outgoing person who enjoys meeting new people. She isn’t shy and will gladly strike up conversations with strangers. She is easy to get along with and has a large sense of humor, and will do her best to cheer up someone who’s clearly unhappy whether she knows them or not. She tries her best to be optimistic, feeling that being depressed and angry leads to nothing but heartache and sorrow in the end. Even in hard times she does her best to find the silver lining.

Krystal also tends to put others before herself, which means she usually neglects her own needs or desires. She dislikes competition and isn’t a fan of arguing; this doesn’t mean she’ll hide or lie about her beliefs just to avoid a confrontation. She usually just ignores someone if they harass her for what she believes in. She refuses to be baited into petty disagreements and has a strong distaste for people who enjoying heckling others.

Krystal doesn’t get mad very often, as her positive outlook on life and general easy-going nature let her shrug off comments or actions that would fluster others. However, a good way to make her very angry is to hurt someone she cares about, no matter whether physically, emotionally, or mentally. She hates physical confrontation as much as verbal confrontation, but won’t hesitate to throw a punch in defense of a loved one. Thanks to the past several years of her working out, she’s actually pretty tough and can easily hold her own in a melee fight.

Krystal is one of those people who is very trusting, while taking betrayal very poorly. She can become very close to someone within a matter of days, which isn’t surprising considering she’ll stand up for someone she doesn’t even know. While she doesn’t react well to people who turn out to be untrustworthy, she can’t help but give everyone she meets the benefit of the doubt. There are those who think this open nature is to counter the fact that she was nearly abducted when she was younger; instead of letting her fear get the best of her, she overcame it and became the friendly person she is today.

There are times when Krystal will get into what she calls a “Mood”. During these times she becomes quiet and withdrawn, as well as very anxious and tense. She will do everything in her power to avoid being alone when struck by a Mood, as being on her own leaves her feeling incredibly vulnerable and fearful. The Moods don’t tend to last very long and only occur once in a while, but they can be worrisome to those who aren’t accustomed to them.

History: For as long as she could remember, Krystal had been able to see things other people couldn’t. Ghosts, spirits, demons, entities…whatever you wanted to call them, Krystal had the ability to perceive them and converse with them. She quickly learned not to mention these beings to her parents or other people after realizing they were different from the imaginary friends other children had. On top of that, the spirit of an elderly man named John had explained to her in one of his first visits that Krystal was special for being able to see him, but should keep the knowledge to herself since others wouldn’t understand and might think her odd. Many of the things she could see were inhuman, but only a very small number of them ever scared Krystal, and even fewer ever tried to hurt her. Most of the beings she met were rather protective of her, and would fend off others that meant her harm.

When she was eight, however, Krystal began to see something that terrified her quite a bit. It was a tall man dressed in a black suit with a red tie and no face. She would normally see him when she woke up in the middle of the night, but would be too afraid to cry or call for her parents. Sometimes spirits would try to comfort her, telling her to not be afraid of what she called the Skinny Man, that if she wasn’t afraid he couldn’t hurt her. During the several months she saw him, Krystal began to develop strange symptoms such as bouts of sudden coughing, agonizing headaches, and frequent nosebleeds. She also became extremely fearful, to the point where her parents had her seeing a child psychiatrist. The weekly sessions didn’t help her at all, and instead her condition grew worse.

Krystal abruptly went missing about a month before her ninth birthday, before returning one day before her birthday. When she returned it was in a nearby park, where a couple who recognized her from various missing flyers took her to the police station. Krystal had no memory of the time she was gone, but would wake up screaming and crying every night for the next year. It was when she returned that her parents discovered the three scars on Krystal’s side and stomach, but the girl didn’t remember how she’d gotten them. However, after the month she was gone, she no longer saw the Skinny Man, and her night terrors and paranoia slowly began to dwindle until she no longer had them. The other symptoms she had cleared up as well, and the young girl moved on with her life.

Things were relatively normal until she turned fourteen. She was walking home from the library after night had fallen when a blue car started to slowly drive beside her. After about three blocks the car stopped and an older man got out, following her on foot for another two blocks. He then rushed at the teenager and tried to grapple her to the ground, but thanks to the fact that she’d already been working out after school for about a year, the girl was able to wiggle away. A kick to the groin left the man temporarily incapacitated, and Krystal took the time to run to the nearest house. After explaining what had happened, the people called the police and the offender was arrested about twenty minutes later.

Everything was normal after that, or as normal as being able to see and talk to random beings could be. Krystal finished school, got a job working at a local pet store a few days after her nineteenth birthday, and moved into her own place about a month later. She often debated going to college, but ultimately decided she was more than happy working with animals all day (not to mention the pay and benefits were pretty good for a simple pet store). On the third anniversary of her hiring date, her vacation time was extended by two days. Deciding to use the 9-day break to do a bit of traveling and see the sights of other states, Krystal put in for her vacation time.

On the third day of her vacation, Krystal was approaching a closed-off town known as Silent Hill. Upon realizing she had to turn around and take a different road to go around the city, the young woman saw a person moving around off to the side of the road. The way they were moving made it seem like they were hurt, and being the caring person she is, Krystal pulled over and got out to ask if they were okay. The next thing she knew, an awful pain exploded in the back of her head and caused her to black out. When she came to, she found herself in a fog-enshrouded place that she didn’t recognize. After taking time to collect her wits, the young woman set off to find out where the hell she was and how she’d gotten there.

Additional Information: Krystal prefers going by Kris, as she finds the full use of her name too weird (odd, perhaps, that she doesn’t like being called a stone but doesn’t mind being called by a guy’s name). She was wearing khakis, a white long-sleeved t-shirt, and a black pair of steel-toed shoes when she was knocked out, so it’s what she’s wearing now. There are also very few entities that Krystal is aware of now, and when she tries to speak to them they ignore her. This, more than anything, has her unsettled and nervous, as entities have never before ignored her when she spoke to them.
You are reserved.

In terms of killing Slenderman, it's pretty much impossible lol. Especially at the start of the RP, where no one even knows wtf is going on. However, if your character manages to escape back to the Real World and finds information on Slendy, it can be used to defeat him (in this case, defeat pretty much only means kicking him out of Silent Hill). That sort of information would be pretty hard to come by, though, especially with hordes of Proxies coming after you :3. You'd probably be better off finding a way to repel him or otherwise protect yourself.
Long time no see, Grit.

Working on my signup now, hope to get it done within the hour.
Ok, turn "within the hour" into "an hour"...

Dear gods, that's some wall o' text to post after. X.x

Name: Serena Dawson

Age: 24

Gender: Female

Description: Standing with an almost willow frame and slightly on the short side at 5'5”, Serena is not likely to turn any heads on the street for standing out. She keeps her straight black hair just beyond shoulder-length and tends to keep it down, rarely tying it back. Her dark brown eyes are framed by a pair of slightly oval framed glasses. As for clothing she prefers darker colors, usually a slate grey longsleeved shirt with black slacks with matching sneakers. For accessories, she has a satchel of old books that she refuses to let anyone else touch.

Personality: At first sight, most assume Serena to be a typical wallflower- she tends to stand back and let others decide while rarely offering suggestions. In reality she is almost always observing, trying to figure out situations and how they will end. After doing this for years, it's become almost a form of hobby for her. It's not until one strikes up a conversation with her that people realize there is more going on than meets the eye.

When spoken to one-on-one, her demeanor appears to change. Rather than shy, she becomes immediately direct and tries to control the subject of the conversation. In the rare case someone appears interested in her books, Serena will show a more talkative side- to the fortune/misfortune of the listener.

History: Serena's childhood was a normal one, save for the fact that she didn't remember her real father. When she was very young, her mother had left her hometown and husband due to an event that had left the community in disarray. While Serena had been taken with her, she had no memories of the town save that apparently a disaster had happened not long after they had left. Her mother never spoke of the subject, but a few years later she remarried and took on her new husband's family name, trying to erase all evidence of being connected to that place.

While Serena kept any curiosity about her mother's prior life well out of her mind, she never really cared much for the other children or socializing in general, finding it all to be a waste of time. This disinterest slowly became annoyance over time as she discovered just how shallow people could be, then extreme dislike. Even taking psychology in her final year of high school then advancing on college taking courses into the subject couldn't help her understand the reason why humanity acted in the narrow-minded and chaotic way she seemed to always see. It wasn't until she began to dig into her parent's attic, looking for a way to kill time one afternoon, that she found something that finally seemed to click for her.

Inside one box, shoved far into the back and long forgotten, lay several books with strange markings on the cover. Nearly all appeared to give info about some form of religion that Serena could not make heads of tails of at first but made more sense over time. They talked of order, and how the current world was full of discord and must be cleansed. Placing the books inside another box and tossing a few assorted objects on top, she managed to further read in her room without her mother's knowledge. It wasn't until a couple years later when, finally confronting her mother about wanting to know more about her father's side of the family, that she had accidentally let slip just where she had found info about the name of her hometown due to it never being mentioned. When her mother found out that her old books were in her daughter's possession, she quickly took measures to attempt to retrieve and destroy them, making sure no one could read them again. Refusing to let what she now considered a priceless treasure to be destroyed, Serena quickly took the books from the house and drove away, adamant on finally returning back to her old home of Silent Hill.

Despite managing to find the town on an old map she had discovered wedged in one of the books, finding its location proved to be difficult; some roads appeared to be blocked off, while others had clearly not been driven upon for years. It wasn't until she reached what she assumed to be the outskirts of town when she thought she saw a person off in the distance, mostly hidden by fog. As she drove closer her car came to a dead stop, refusing to start back up. Cursing her bad luck, Serena took her satchel and continued the journey on foot, traveling into the fog and what hopefully would give her the answers she yearned for.

Additional Info: Serena is far from the athletic type, but is not out of shape- she's not going to run any marathons, but won't tire after only a few moments running either. She also possess a cellphone, which I assume won't work right if at all.
Yay, Aki! Looks good, I like the idea of someone coming from Silent Hill originally ^_^.
Any chance of me playing the Shiba Inu from the dog ending of Silent Hill 2?
