Okay, so I was thinking we need an item that allows for the user to forget an HM move on the go. Useful, right? And Slowpoke are, well, slow. Forgetful. Dumb enough to forget a permanent move, even! So it stays canon and gives a pointless item that's already in the data a use! I'll take my payment in cash, Nintendo.
So Slowpoketail thread.
 
I like this idea, overall the item would be useless since the Move Deleter is in game, however the overall convenience would be nice.
 
Um, I don't think that would work. Pokemon can't forget HMs by themselves because you might get stuck in an area. Say, if you forget Surf while on a water route island, and you don't have a pokemon with Fly, you're stuck. Unless you have a fishing rod and an empty space in your party.

You cannot forget HMs on-the-fly, as others have said. You can't sell HMs and their use is unlimited, but the game needs to be careful of how it treats the forgetting of such moves, as a Trainer could release their only Water-type, etc.

Slowpoke Tails do nothing. They are a story-related item, and a black market good involving the maiming of wild Slowpoke.

I expect them to be referred to by NPCs, but entirely unobtainable. In other words, don't worry about it.

The only item exclusive to GSC that matters is the Berserk Gene, but we'll just have to see about that one.
 
Yeah, as has been pointed out, there's a very good reason that HMs can only be deleted via the move deleter. However, one thing they could do with the slowpoke tail is if you give one to a Shellder to hold, it will change into its spiral form. That would fit in perfectly with the fact that Shellder becomes a spiral when it attaches to a Slowpoke.

...that it's up to GameFreak and that we have no idea whether or not it'd be implemented?
 
There's a reason why Slowpoketails are meant to be useless. Because purchasing them is supposed to be a big no-no.
 
Not really, since the tails grow back and the Slowpoke feel no pain. It's more of kidnapping the Slowpoke that is the bad part.
 
Weren't Slowpoketails said too be really tasty? Maybe they could boost a Pokémon's stats or revive it's HP or something?

I dunno, random idea.

I like the new forme idea, myself. Would it be a forme of Shellder (ala Rotom), a new evolution, or a hold item form (ala Giratina)?

They do feel pain, it just comes late -according to the Pokédex, when being damaged, it takes 5 minutes/seconds (I don't remember) to feel the pain. But yeah I agree with you.

Maybe they could make it a new evolution in the next generation. But then that would mean that Slobro is just a slowpoke with a shellder on its tail and not a new evolution...
 
Shellder evolves to give the slowpoke balance to walk on its hind legs, which in turn makes Shellder able to across land or something like that, they both need eachothers to evolve. As for the item, it would be great to have a hm-remover in your inventory.

You cant get stuck, as someone said might be a problem, because you can always use hms again. If you're on an island and remove surf, then you can just relearn surf, easy peasy.

However, the slowpoke tail feels kinda cruel, even though their tails grow out again. I'm a slowpoke fan, I wouldn't wanna carry around their tails :( ...
