Basicaly, which Gen had the smoothest animation sequenses when pokemon came out for battling. Personally, I think Gen II had the best.

The newer gen really have to win by defeat due to today's Technology with animation and graphics, but Gen III is my favorite.

Gens III and IV have really smooth animations. I haven't looked into the Gen V animations yet.

Gen 3. Smooth pokemon animations running @ 60FPS. And the attack animations were smooth (and fast) as well.

I liked Typhlosion's, Xatu's, and Hitmontop's Crystal animations the best, even to this day.

I also like Blaziken's Emerald sprite the best.

But overall, I like the animations of Platinum. Animated backsprite ftw. It's funny to have Goukazaru screech angrily at every wild Pokemon I come across while on my way to watering berries. I always like to tell her "hey now, don't scream it it, let's just move on'. It's silly, but I mostly do this when I'm feeling down anyway, as a way to cheer myself up. 8D;

I prefer the Platinum/HGSS animations.

You mean attack animation? If that's so, then Gen 3 and 4.
If you mean animation of the Pokémon, then HGSS.

From the poll, i think the OP means pokemon animation, as for gens 2 and 3, only crystal and emerald are listed.

Animations in Gen 3 were smooth and great. Apparently Thunderbolt was just so high quality that it had the ability to crash RS games.

I like Crystal's due to the fact that they were more individualized by Pokemon. For example, a Pidgey would flap its wings, a Steelix would roar, etc. But in the newer games (Emerald specifically) a lot of the time the sprite just rocks back and forth.

Gen III ran at 60FPS, everything was extremelly smooth. Animations felt quick and would work for a battle.

In contrast, in Gen IV isn't that choppy, but that's what makes battles so SLOW. And the animations there were boring: Disort pokemon, effects, effects in the middle, effects in the opponent, disort opponent pokemon.

Crystal gets an honorable mention for individual animations, of course.

B/W aren't released, so they don't count. For what I've seen, the actual pokemon animation is gorgeous though, but the attacks seem boring.

The attacks in b&w to me looked like gen IV attacks. Which were meh.

Generation III had the smoothest most straemlined battles in the games. Generation IV slowed it down somewhat.

Generation 5's are the most technically advanced, but some of them aren't that "smooth."

Crystal's animations were fantastic if not a little slow. Emerald's and the fourth generation's were pretty terrible, though.

I didnt like Emerald at all...well except for Mudkip and his evolutionary line lols!

But B/W loks interesting but it aint out yet sooo I'm not completly sure if they all are lookin good

but HG/SS animations were good but I wish they kept the D/P sprites for Sinnoh instead of the Platinum ones
