Some call it a cat, and others the animal its' name resembles. How is it like both?

:lx215:

Evil rabbit, maybe?
I never did get "weasel" out of it.
So why don't we just assume it's a cabbit? Because one of its ears is rabbit like..

Actually, I assumed the long, pink protrotion is a feather.

I don't know what Sneasel is, but even Bulbapedia uses the name as the source. They also mention kamaitachi, a weasel demon with sickles for front legs. It's just one of those pokemon that you could endlessly debate on its origin, or it may even just be a composite creature. I think the answer lies in "Why is it an Ice pokemon?", or even in its Japanese name-Nyuura. I certainly can't make a logical conclusion from its evolved form, Manyuura, as it looks like Aztec royalty or something.

It always looked to me like some sort of mix between a cat and a rabbit, with long feathery things coming from its back and ear area. And large claws for climbing and attacks, of course.

But why is it an ice-type? You don't find it in an icy area or anything.

Well, in most videogames, kamaitachi attack with wind. There was one collection game based on youkai in which the kamaitachi spins around to create tornadoes. In Digimon, the kamaitachi there also attacks with wind. In Monster Rancher, the kamaitachi monsters attack with blades of wind and ice. So it seems to be a videogame convention that kamaitachi attack by slicing their sickles through the air to create freezing air vaccums or something.

Sneasel was in that route that goes to Mt. Silver in Silver. o.o Well, I suppose mountainous regions are cold, too.

See, that's what I thought. Which is why I didn't equate it with being in an icy area.

*random thought* What if the feather-like deals are actually some sort of almost wing-like appengage? Like nade of web-type skin held in place by a thin strip of bone or cartelege or somesuch.

I would guess that they're just crests made out of cartelidge and fur to help identify or communicate with others of the same species.

I imagine most pokemon as the games tell it just because the common way it is shown doesn't fit, then I don't accept the way it is commonly shown. To me it is like Magnemites with emotion.

Not to mention Icefall Cave.
