I had ordered it off eBay from a user who didn't seem to be in the way of offering bootleg items. Anyways, I loaded it up and I get the message:

The save file will be loaded.
The game can be played.

And then it goes to the normal Continue, New Game, Options menu.

Now, this sure sounds like a bootleg, yes? I'm not at the point of being able to use Pal Park in my Platinum version to test it out for sure and see, so anybody have any input?

The cartridge is clear, the sticker isn't shiny, on the "gold panel" of the game, inside I can see white lettering (C) 2002 Nintendo AGB-E06-02, and on the back it's Model No. ABG-002.

For Pal Park, how far do I have to be in Emerald to try the feature? Or do I simply have to have the National Pokedex, etc. in Platinum? I'd like to determine it once and for all as quickly as possible, I'm currently at the last gym in Platinum.

I don't think it matters how far you are in Emerald, you just need to have saved at a PC irc.

Its legit. If it says "the battery has run dry" then the battery is dead. here is a rse battery fix tut.

I bought an emerald just like this. It is a bootleg copy. It will erase your save data(emerald) if IV generation game is selected for pal park.

Shouldn't it be 2005 not 2002? It could be bootleg. Doesn't matter where you are in Emerald as long as you have 1 pokemon in the PC to transfer and you already beat the Elite Four.

As Gligar says, if it mentions the battery running dry, then its legit. That message is normal when the battery is dead... however it's only responsible for the real-time-clock, not the saved data. So other than time-based events (like growing berries, etc.), the game should work fine. If you know how to solder, it's pretty easy installing a new battery.

I think you can transfer via Pal Park at any time, even before the elite 4. But you need at have at least 6 Pokemon in your PC, not 1. Every time you Pal Park, you need to send 6. No more, no less.

I meant you beat the Elite 4 in D/P/Pt.

Completely mixed responses! lol

Guess I won't know for sure until I crack out the elite four and go see all the Pokemon in Sinnoh then.

All Emeralds have a shiny label. The inside of my cart, that I bought in a store, has E05 on it.

Same here. E05-01.

Are we sure they all have shiny labels, though? All my GBA Pokemon games do (Ruby, FireRed, Emerald), however I've seen FireRed cartridges that don't.

I have a copy of Fire Red coming to me from eBay as well, as far as I can tell from the picture it does have a shiny label. The Emerald seller has offered a refund if I mail it back. I'm gonna try to finish the Elite Four/See all Sinnoh Pokemon by tomorrow so I can try the Pal Park. If Pal Park fails I'll send the Emerald back.

I'm getting Heart Gold Monday, with Heart Gold and Platinum alone (possibly with Fire Red as long as the copy I get is legit) what Pokemon besides event Pokemon would I be unable to obtain?

Yeah, you've always got to be careful buying things like this off eBay. I try not to, but when I do I always avoid sellers in Asia (other than Japan, of course). There's just too many knock-offs of pretty much everything in existence coming out of there for me to really trust any of the sellers. It must be frustrating being a consumer there, lol.

For Pokemon games, best to stick to North American (US and Canada, ideally) sellers, and not go for the absolute cheapest.

Yeah I got Emerald from a Canadian and the Fire Red from an American, and upon further inspecting the picture of Fire Red I'm not so sure that label is shiny either. Oh well, I guess I'll write off buying things from eBay anymore. :-|

1st. My legit emerald says "2002 nintendo" in white letters.
2nd. Heres a pic of it with flash off:

Note how emerald has sparkles on the label when shined in light. Also, both should have numbers stamped in the label like on firered.

Yeah I'd say my Emerald cart is definitely fake. Thanks for the pic.

So the Fire Red label doesn't sparkle? 'Cause the pic of the one I ordered it doesn't shine, edgy about getting another fake now. I'm hoping Fire Red is legit so I can play it and Pal Park stuff on my trip. Assuming it arrives before I leave. Otherwise I'll play through HG.

Fr/Lg labels are a bit more like R/S... theyre still metallic, but they don't really "sparkle" in selective areas like Emerald does.

Great, probably gonna get shafted with these too. I'm gonna mail back the Emerald today or tomorrow, and probably the Fire Red if it inspects out to be a fake as well. No point in wasting money on something I can't use the way I intended.

I'd like to grab some sealed boxes but I don't even trust that those would be legit at this point.
