So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are we?

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

I can see them being released directly to DVD.

Remember they dubbed those pointless 5 minute Ranger shorts when they didn't have to, so why wouldn't they dub these?

Just because one special was dubbed doesn't mean that all the others will be dubbed as well. The ANA shorts should have taught you that.

These feature main characters. They were probably dubbed right after DP ended anyway, just not aired.

You have no way of knowing that.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

Even though it's been a year since these specials aired in Japan, I don't think that means that we'll never see them dubbed. Cartoon Network only airs one new episode a week and I don't think that they would want to take a break from airing new episodes of Ash's journeys in Unova for these specials. I could see them airing these specials at the end of a big Pokemon marathon on Cartoon Network. That's what happened with those Mystery Dungeon specials, so I could see Cartoon Network holding off airing them until something like that happens. Being released on DVD along with one of the season sets for Black and White sounds like a pretty good possibility too. I think that the chances of these specials being dubbed are pretty good, if only because they involve former main characters, so it's just an issue regarding when they'll air or if they'll be included in a season set.

There was like a whole month between Seasons 14 and 15. If a dub really was ready, why not air it during that downtime?

That's a good question. I thought that might come up after I made that post. They spent the month break airing the Gym battle episodes in order to lead up to the match against Bianca and Elesa, so they probably didn't want to change that momentum of Gym battle reruns by airing these two specials. I still think that they'll save these specials for the end of a marathon at some point since that's how they've handled the more recent specials.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

Pokémon Chronicles shows that it is never too late to dub old specials.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

Perhaps they realised the specials really add nothing and didn't waste their time - the Brock special is especially repetitive considering nearly every episode showing the Pewter Gym had the exact same plot.

If we ever see Brock/Dawn in the anime in the future, there might be a reason to dub and show them, but their respective storylines end just as well without the specials (Dawn going to Hoenn perhaps is important, but one line of dialogue can explain that if it ever needs to come up).

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

I'm assuming either;

a)TPCi wants to regain the fresh feeling of Kanto, as shown with how they decided the original series composers back; so they won't have the previous characters' episodes before older Pokémon and characters start appearing in games and animé.(Personally this is the most likely option).

b)They are going to release them on either DVD or stream the episodes on interwebs(the former is likely and latter is not).

c)They are going to broadcast them before the characters reappear in the series(really unlikely at this point).

d)They are going to broadcast them when Diamond/Pearl remakes happen(will not happen and I'm just throwing this one out to troll basically).

e)What Moe said.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

I find it very likely as well. I talk to Bill Rogers occasionally on Facebook, and when I mentioned the specials to him, he'd never heard of them before. They usually record episodes at least 2 or 3 months in advance, and if he hadn't heard of them half a year after they aired (this was quite a while ago that I mentioned them) then they're likely not coming any time soon, if ever. But we'll see....

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

It would have been good if they had included them as bonus episodes on the Sinnoh League Victors DVD's.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

^ That was you? edit: to Jo the Marten

But yeah, I came to say the same thing. Bill Rogers didn't know anything about them when he was asked, but he usually posts Pokemon news for the future in regards to his voice work. So I'm assuming they still haven't been dubbed. It's a shame, seeing as I really liked the Brock one and the Dawn one was hardly a filler considering her cyndaquil evolved. I haven't got my hopes up though.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

I think if they were ever to be dubbed, they'd be extras on a DvD as an extra selling point.

It is weird though that they seem to have decided not to bother with them. I guess with TCPI's extra focus on Gen V compared to the past few Gens (the Reshiram and Zekrom floats at Macy's, the movie in the cinema) that they didn't want to "backtrack" a little? That's poor reasoning but I can't really think of anything else.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

It's quite possible they make it a DVD thing! Cause this hiatus between 2 BW seasons was a great oppurtunity to stream that but it didn't happen!

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

Well, people have been complaining about the lack of a "new season" of "Pokemon Chronicles" since forever, so hey, maybe they decided to go along with their wishes and put these two episodes on the backburner, planning to dub them once they have another 15 random one-offs? :p

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

It doesn't matter to me whether these get dubbed or not, but there really is no reason that they haven't, since they've dubbed other things that weren't necessary.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

I wish they would be, I'd actually like to see them! I'm not getting my hopes up though.

Re: So I guess we're never going to see a dub of the Hikari and Takeshi specials, are

Its kinda sad for dub fans though, it seems like these specials will count as Dawn and Brock's "cameo" for Best Wishes.

Unlike Misty and May returning, I really don't think we'll see Dawn or Brock appear in Unova at all. These specials really felt like the final sendoff for these two characters.
