That I can hear tones so high that only a dog is supposed to be able to hear them. According to this page, anyways. I guess I sort of doubt its accuracy.

How high is the highest tone you guys can hear? I can hear up to 21.1kHz...other people can hear that, right?

Yeah, I actually have a headache now from listening to that 21.1 tone. So you can hear that one?

Honestly, I couldn't tell. I hear so many high-pitched sounds on a second-to-second basis that it's hard to tell which of them I'm *supposed* to be hearing.

Most digital audio out there, including audio CDs, is recorded at 44.1kHz. IIRC, the audio tracks on DVD video is recorded at 48kHz. According to [wp]Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem[/wp], the means that the highest frequency sound that can be recorded in those formats are 22.05kHz and 24kHz, respectively.

Your PC sound cards probably are not capable of outputting audio recorded at rates other than 44.1kHz or 48kHz... But at the same time, this isn't really a problem, because most people can't hear sounds higher than the aforementioned limits.

I think I damaged my hears listening to loud music on earphones >.< - I could only hear up to 18.8kHz, and no more (although I thought I heard something at 19.9kHz - like something in my subconscious). I believe it should have been higher...

Update on situation: I was messing around on that site some more, and remember I said that I could hear up to 21.1? The only one I couldn't hear was the one after that, 22.4. Well after looking around that site some more, it turns out that if you choose 22.4, it says "You are a liar
You claimed to be able to hear a tone that contained absolutely no sound!" So the reason I can't hear that one is because it doesn't actually have sound. I looked around and found another page, and from that one I could actually hear up through the 24.0kHz frequency. o_O

Where is that web site? I would like to give it a look (and a listen).

By the way, I think I read about those ringtones somewhere before. Not sure where...

I used to have a dog whistle, and I could hear it...

IIRC, women have better hearing than men... until they start having children. Pregnancy does things to your earbones - my mother (three children) has difficulties hearing certain frequencies.

My results:
<table width='350' border=0 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=2 align=center><tr><td bgcolor='#AABBAA' align=center style='font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;'><div id='head'>You are a thirtysomething</div></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#EEFFEE' style='font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Arial; font-size: 12pt; border: 1px; border-color:AABBAA;'><div id='text'>You're a little frustrated that you can't hear all the tones that the young 'uns can but will be more than happy if it means you don't have to listen to their damn ringtones on the bus anymore.<br /><br />The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is <a href='http://media.ultrasonic-ringtones.com/tones/14918.mp3'>14.9kHz</a></div></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#CCDDCC' style='font-family: Arial, Tahoma; font-size: 12pt;'>Find out which <a href='http://www.ultrasonic-ringtones.com/'>ringtones</a> you can hear!</td></tr></table>

I only got to 14.1 on the first link, 13 on the second. Although I could FEEL 14 and 15 on the second, and 14.9 on the first. And even the tones I could hear made me feel weird. Weird to the point where I'm considering throwing out my eyeballs for fear I'll never be able to stop the throbbing. Not to mention my brain throbbing. Pissed my dog off, though.
