So I'm kinda getting the vibe that everyone here either doesn't care, or possibly even likes the fact that the English dub is bad, and continuing to get worse, am I wrong in thinking that? Before anyone even starts things up, I want to make it clear that I am referring to things the dub does that doesn't have to do with the voice cast, that's a flame war I'm not interested in igniting. I'm referring to the other big issues the dub has such as the terrible script rewrites, the increasingly horrible music replacements (I have a bad feeling that the hoopa film is gonna replace the soundtrack just like the last one did :( ), the complete lack of directing that exists, inflammatory behavior from the staff (both from the voices, and other staff), not to mention the fact that the previous director Tom Wayland pulled a Bill Cosby and yet his rotten dubbing practices continue to be followed by the replacement. Are all of you honestly ok with this? I'm not trying to bash any of you if you are ok with it, I just wanna know why there haven't been any efforts to change this. If anything else, the fact that Tom "Cosby" Wayland hasn't been arrested yet for what he did, and I haven't seen any attempts to have the dub handed over to FUNimation or VIZ. So please tell me if I'm missing something here?

"The dub is terrible" isn't a fact; it's an opinion.

I suppose my favor for the dub is in inverse proportion to my disdain with the Japanese version. It's actually the original version that I find annoying (I've made a thread and a blog entry revealing why).

I'll admit that there are things I'd like the dub to fix. Even though I'm forgiving of music changes, I'd love it if there would be a consistent volume for each track (dub or original BGM). Sometimes, the BGM is too quiet. Also, I don't like oversimple lines and terminologies like "Legendary Giant Rock." And as much as I think the acting has gotten better (likely thanks to Theresa Buchheister), every now and then an awkward line will make it through (although that's because of the lines Jimmy Zoppi writes on each script).

But despite my problems, I consider it to be my definitive choice for watching the show. The really important stuff is kept, and that satisfies me greatly. Ed Goldfarb is no John Loeffler or Ralph Shuckett (who, in turn, are no Jeremy Zuckerman or James Horner), but the BGM he composed are fitting for the show. The acting has improved since Wayland's tenure. And although Jimmy Zoppi writes some corny lines, he also has come up with some great stuff, too.

I think I can sum up by saying that I'm 80% okay with how the dub is going. There's room for improvement, though.

I think anyone who wanted the dub to be more like the original version has moved on at this point. TPCi has no problem with the show being one of the worst dubs on the market today.

As a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, I wish that the dubs for that franchise were more like what Pokemon has. The Pokemon dubs aren't perfect by any means, but they are still enjoyable to watch, the voice acting has gotten better and I think aside from Team Rocket, there isn't a lot of unnecessary changes to the characters' personalities. Granted, I don't compare the two versions frequently, so I could be off the mark about that last point, but out of all of the toyetic anime dubs that I have seen in recent years, Pokemon has the least problems for me. It does have its problems and I can understand why people would have issues with it, but I certainly wouldn't call it terrible or claim that it is is a fact that it is terrible.

Yu-Gi-Oh! dubs, on the other hand, are pretty awful and watchable at best. I absolutely love Arc-V, but it's dub, much like the other dubs in that franchise, is borderline unwatchable and has already ruined multiple characters with the dialogue changes and terrible voices. I'm not trying to say that Pokemon is fine because there are other worse dubs out there, but it does make me less upset at the Pokemon dubs when I've seen far worse stuff out there. Not having that much issue with the dub itself helps too. My biggest problem with the TPCI for years was the voice acting, but that has improved. I'm still not happy with how and why the voice cast changed happen, but I'm fine with the current cast. The background music being replaced is a reasonable complaint though.

I believe people who dislike the dub don't complain that much nowadays because most of them don't even watch it anymore. It's been over 15 years and very little has seemed to change, so I guess we're all kind of tired by this point.

After discussing it over with the staff, I've decided to close the thread. The topic seems to be designed to pretty much bash the dub, starting from claiming that it being terrible is indeed a fact that everyone is okay with or has accepted. This really isn't the best way to start off a topic, so I'll close this thread.
