So it seems like Jasmine won't be getting a cameo in DP

Now we're at Sunyshore, where the Gym leader Jasmine appears in the games, but it seems like she's nowhere to be seen.

Unless she appears as Jessie's contest opponent in that upcoming episode, it seems Jasmine will be ignored.

Why do you think the writers are so against showing older Gym leaders aside from flashback montages?
 
We still have two episodes(and probably more as Satoshi will most likely come back for badge) right? Besides, previews doesn't show everything right?
 
They would have probably shown Jasmine on those scans if she was going to appear. They usually hype up character appearances.

Jasmine is a coordinator in DP, so I kinda hope Jessie faces her even though it probably won't happen.
 
Great, they pull up a Piplup episode instead to see Jasmine and a gym battle.

I wasn't expected for a Jasmine appearance anyways since a Magnazone already appeared few eps ago.
 
Jasmine could still appear in DP167 or in Jessie's fifth ribbon contest. Since we only have a preview for newt week, we should wait a little until burying Jasmine.

Plus if she appears, great, if she doesn't, oh well color me unfazed. I'd take episodes like DP142, DP156 and DP164 over just plugging characters.

Yes, let's stop giving focus episodes to the main characters of this show just to have an appearance by a game characters. Evil Evil character developpement, leave this show, we don't want fleshed out main characters with fleshed out relationships. No more character developpement, just meaningless cameos...
 
Not everything in the video games like it is in the anime. There be people missing and their be people appear. Nobody knew about Lyra or Kourey in the games, but they appear in the anime. Jasmine might be in the game, but will not appear on the show.
 
given that they have to come back later, she could still appear, it doesn't matter to me if she does or not, just saying.
 
It's weird

It's like when we went back to Kanto for the Battle Frontier, we didn't see ANY of the old gym leaders (besides Brock who's always here and Misty had 2 eps, not sure if they count since they are/were main characters). I mean we stopped in Saffron, and I'm surprised we didn't even get a mention of Sabrina.

I guess they just think "why focus on old gym leaders?". I mean they were sort of interesting, but having them show up for the sake of it would be dumb.

Not more so than Roark, Gardenia and Candice's return visits. The fact that they were fresh in the viewers' memory was hardly a contributing factor, and having Jasmine appear in the same place as in the games would be less random than putting the Sinnoh Gym Leaders all over the region.

That's such a minor cameo that I can see the anime pissing on it. It's their style totally.

Sure, having Jasmine appear would be a perfect opportunity to make a HGSS ad (an amusing one, actually). But seems like, with Gen V being goddamn announced, they don't care about advertising HGSS anymore.
 
But wait... If Jasmine doesn't appear in Sunyshore, how is Ash going to obtain HM07!? He won't be able to enter the Pokemon league! I hope to god the anime finds some way around this monstrosity... [/sarcasm]

Games=/=Anime

If they stuck so strictly to the games plot then we'd have a rather sucky, predictable(er) series in our hands
 
I think it's a tad early for this thread. Jasmine doesn't give you the HM until after you defeat Volkner so if she were to show up in the anime, I would assume that episode would come after Ash won the badge. As already mentioned, a contest against Jessie isn't entirely out of the question either.

Maybe we'll see the lighthouse then too...
 
We've spent all of 2 episodes in Sunyshore. Whether she shows up or doesn't isn't a concern to me, but I think you own any character the benefit of the doubt. We don't even know when the gym battle will officially be over, much less when cameo characters are supposed to show (like Buck, Charon again, Heatran and that stupid Mountain, and all kinds of other stuff).

In fact, we know very little aside from episode titles and quick ep-previews. Just because we hear that 'such-and-such' is in doesn't necessarily mean that the opposite is out. Like this Flint episode that just aired. We see the preview, people think "Oh, it has to be Infernape and Pikachu facing Flint". And then the next preview comes out, we see Buizel, and instantly people say "Well now it's Buizel and Pikachu that face Flint". Turns out it was all three. So let's just... wait before claiming this and that.
 
I don't see much point in a Jasmine cameo.

Her only purpose in Sunyshore in the games is to give out an HM... Which don't exist in the anime.

Plus the anime's depiction of Jasmine is very different from the game's depiction. Their personalities could not be any more different. She's meek and quite in the games yet has the "stereotypical gym leader" personality in the anime. It's unlikely that she'll also be a contest rival since Dawn already has all her nessacary ribbons.

As far as Jasmine's depiction is concerned, the anime writers wrote themselves into a corner.

If they really wanted to introduce the "plot point" for whatever reason, they might have to make up a CotD in her place. Kinda what they did with Janine's supposed cameo... A Ninja-themed episode in Kanto could have been a perfect oppourtunity to introduce the character, but instead we got an original CotD.
 
I just think the writers avoid showing old Gym leaders unless we're in the same region. Hence why some older Sinnoh Gym leaders re-appeared, like Roark and Candice, but ones from older generations are generally ignored.

At least Claire got a brief cameo in the first Kotone episode, but again that was only a montage and a non-speaking cameo.

Whitney and Morty also get brief mentions when Lyra and Khoury are heading back to Johto.
 
Oh no, Jasmine hasn't been seen yet, despite the fact we're obviously going to be in Sunyshore a while and having Jasmine appear would be perfect advertising for HGSS because Ash has actually met her. OH NO! She must not be in the show simply because she wasn't in the first sunyshore episode.

Or they could have spotlighted Janine in Ariados, Amigos rather than use Aya a second time. When Wallace appeared it gave me a bit of hope that Janine would too. Who knows maybe an episode with her isn't still out of the question. Only time will tell I guess.

Back on topic, I expected Dawn to beat Jasmine for her fifth ribbon. It seemed like a logical way to give Dawn an epic final battle, spotlight Cyndaquil, flesh out Jasmine's personality better, and promote HGSS. At this point the best she'll probably get is a walk-on cameo in one of the next episodes. If she's lucky she'll be a judge in an upcoming contest. Chances are though they won't reuse her at all.
