So overrated they become underrated

I feel like with Pokemon like Charizard or Pikachu/Riachu, people always call them 'overrated', and nobody uses them because of that. I know I used to often avoid Pokemon I thought were overrated when I played (though I no longer do this). Anyway, I think that a lot of Pokemon are often underused because people think they are overrated/overused.

Is this something everyone else experiences, and if so, with what Pokemon?

Pikachu and Charizard are the prime examples, many are embarrased to like them because of how much favoritism the franchise shows towards them. Also, with legendaries, many avoid using them.

Happens also with Eeveelutions. Many say Flareon and Glaceon are underrated but as eeveelutions a ton of people are gonna like them and consider them for their teams. Same case for starters, some are definitely bottom of the barrel (Chespin and Tepig) but others have a decent number of fans that consider them underrated despite being on a good chunk of teams (Popplio, Quaxly, Turtwig, Chikorita).

I used a Garchomp in ZA. Not that I was avoiding using it, I kind of forget I can use Pseudos for my in-game team lol. And man, does Garchomp really clean up! But I can see how its potentially overrated due to its saturation in related media and it being one of the most popular character's (Cynthia) ace.

Also the Red Gyarados in Gen 2/4? Because its one of those static encounte shines that doesn't count as a real shiny or something. But I love using the Red Gyarados, especially being able to destroy Team Rocket's Base with it just after capture. (In my case, she deserves it after everything TR put her through!! :c)

I feel this bc I love Charizard especially lol. It's a real classic design and you can never go wrong with a fire breathing dragon. While in recent years I've been favoring Venusaur a bit more, I'm always down to use Charizard when I play the Kanto games.
