So...Richie, Casey and Sakura, what happened to them?

You guys probably remember these three (we can't forget the first one due to him being Ash's first loss in the Indigo league), they've gotten a few episodes in the series. The last time all three appeared were in some Hoso specials, and since then they seem to have been forgotten about.

One thing that's notable about them is they're all second and third tier rivals, characters who were never on the same level of importance as the "big" rivals in the series.

Is there any reason you can see the writers bringing these three back, or are they far too unimportant to even bother with anymore? Do these characters have any importance to the overall story or are they essentially barely above filler character material?

There's only so much episode time available for bring back old characters. As a result, we don't see them back too often (real life kinda works like this as well, just so you know). Also, those characters have been out of it for quite some time, so the effect of bringing them back may not be as beneficial as the writers would like.

Of those three Sakura (and her sisters) are in game characters. If they remade Gold/Silver she could very well return. However, I don't how she'd fit in right now.

Yeah, there's also probably the fact that D/P has some more memorable characters like Paul, Pokehunter J and even Gary, so bringing back these other old characters probably doesn't serve much of a purpose.

I still always wanted to see Ash kick Richie's ass, now that Ash no longer plays the cutesy Pokemon game. Hell, I want Ash to use Charizard against Richie in a match to show how much he has grown with it. Would be fun to see.

I think it'd be cool if they returned.

Actually, I think OI Marina would have been a great rival for Misty. IMO she's Misty's Richie. Marina's not similar to Misty in looks but in Pokemon she owns and Pokemon they're obsessed with. I wanted her in the Johto Water Tournament. She'd have been more interesting than the girl Misty lost to. If they can randomly bring back Aya why not OI Marina? >:O

I'd love to see Ritche show up later in Sinnoh and then at the Sinnoh League, resulting in a Ash/Ritche rematch.

Casey I'd love to see back, maybe along with Scott so she can be pointed in the direction of the Battle Frontier. Or to have an Electabuzz/Electabuzz fight with Paul.

Richie was kinda...err...well...boring. So I mean, I really don't miss him. His last appearances atleast tried to differentiate himself from Ash, but I mean, he was still kinda dull.

And Casey was damn annoying.

Casey and Richie were awesome D:

I miss them, actually, it would be cool to see them return. I didn't even know much about Sakura in the first place

Heh, I remember people used to speculate a Casey return because of Electivire, but now that Paul will have one and Gary has one too, she's pretty much screwed.

Sakura was also connected to Misty, so I very much doubt she'll appear for Ash's sake. Since Misty isn't going to appear much in the series at all for the forseeable future, there's little reason to show Sakura.

The sad thing is that whatever Ash catches, Richie catches.

In one of the Hoso's Richie had a Taillow. A FRIGGIN Taillow! If he shows up again, watch him have a Starly and a Chimchar.

He's like the scrappy doo of the Pokemon universe, despite him not being a main character.

Of course, if they really want to annoy a certain someone on here, watch Ritche show up with one of the Eeveelutions.

Besides, there IS that Pupitar of his, a potential Tyranitar which Ash can only dream of.

I liked Sakura's pokemon a lot she would have been great to have gone along with ash instead of dawn. However both Sakura and dawn seemed to be REALLY boring. Ritche was an ash copycat i hate how they tried to make him seem superior. Its not like he is any better than ash i mean the last battle with pikachu and ivysaur was pathetic. Ash's pikachu would have at least landed a hit. Casey in one word was AWESOME. She didnt seem to be on a pokemon journey though. We never saw her have any badges or anything. What exactly was she doing?

How would that annoy anyone? Are you referring to the episode where Richie asked Professor Oak about evolving his Eevee? Because that was dub-added.

I think she said she only had 4 badges in her last ep in Johto, although I don't remember exactly.

The sad thing is it looks like Casey really failed as a trainer. She missed her chance to enter the Johto league and then she travels to Kanto for some bizarre reason instead of getting the rest of the badges.

Who knows where she is now though. Probably decided to be an Electabuzz team cheerleader and give up training altogether.
