Okay, Suicune is my legendary dog in Leafgreen. But there's something odd about it.

I have put it to sleep. It runs away while asleep. I send out Wobbuffet, whose Shadow Tag Ability should prevent it from escaping. Yet it runs away. Again.

Status conditions and abilities that should make it stay in battle instead of fleeing DO NOT WORK. But they should, and they did work in G/S/C, so what's going on? Am I missing something?

And if so, why did Nintendo make it so Suicune could get around what's supposed to prevent it from fleeing?

Whatever it is, it's freaking annoying since I finally got Suicune down to a little sliver of red. Perfect for catching, of course, if Sleep and Shadow Tag were working correctly.

Answers, please, if you have them.

@Rosakai

I don't think shadow tag works with wild pokemon... only in trainer battles, I think (it depends on if you are able to escape at Mirage Island from those wild Wynauts, I've never gone there so I've never been sure if that ability also works in wild pokemon battles)...

To prevent Suicune from escaping I think you have to use a move such as Mean Look. Also, having a pokemon faster than Suicune might help. I guess Wobbufet isn't particularly the fastest pokemon. Try with a Golbat/Crobat with mean look and see if it still escapes...

Shadow Tag doesn't work the turn you send Wobbuffet out. Same thing for Magnezone and Steels, and Dugtrio/Trapinch and non-Levitators.

Its worked against Entei, though it had Roar so that was pretty futile.

So just lead with Blobbuffet

Suicune has no roar.

If it works with Entei then I don't understand how it fails with an also running pokemon who doesn't even has Roar.

Ok,Neku Sakuraba
You say it doesn't work on the turn Wobbufet is sent. In that case how do they say they can use it and it works?

Obviously the case since its not working for the topic poster (poster not using it as lead). Not to mention this sentence right here: "I send out Wobbuffet, whose Shadow Tag Ability should prevent it from escaping. " which kid of suggests it is not used as a lead.

That's right; I can't use Wobbuffet as a lead because it's lv. 55, and that woulod make Suicune not appear while using Max Repel.

But this has been really helpful. I lead off with Diglett and then send Wobbuffet out when it faints. Still no capture (as Suicune knocked Wobbuffet out), but I know what I'm doing now. Thanks again!

Don't you get two Master Balls in Leaf Green? If so I believe one was for Mewtwo and the other was for one of the Legendary Dogs. But if you had to pick one, you probably should have used it on the Suicune.

No game offers more than one Master Ball, unless you happen to win the lottery and recieve one.

Well then the best thing to do is to save the Master Ball for one of the Legendary Dogs. I guess the easiest way to do it is to play through the scenario mode in Pokemon Colosseum. However that game doesn't just suck, it swallows.
