So what if Obama's Muslim? I'd still vote for him.

I'm am sooo sick of the Muslim bashing associated with Obama's run for President. I don't care what the man's religion is as long as he has many of the same liberal beliefs that I do. So despite the fundis constant bashing & libeling, I'm STILL gonna vote for Obama!!

...Alright. How is that a debate? Or...even a real topic starter? Plus, there's an election thread already.

For this topic to make some sense the title should have been "Even if Obama were a Muslim I would vote him!".

Point being that the term "Muslim " is being used to scare off voters from voting for Obama. Yes many of us know that Obama's Christian, but for the few who may not, the term "Muslim" is being used to scare off voters. In Weimar Germany the term "Jew" was used against opponents of the Nazi Party to scare off supporters. The debate being, have we sunk so low in the US that opposition groups use the term "Muslim" to bash opponents? Does the McCain camp turn a blind-eye to Muslim bashing for sheer spite?

There's ALWAYS a term used by politicians to scare off voters. It used to be "communist." Before that, it was "abolitionist." Before THAT, it was "European" or "pro-British." And, of course, there's the ever-popular "anti-American" or "unpatriotic." This is nothing new. Muslims are just this decade's boogeymen. It'll blow over before you know it. And OF COURSE McCain's not doing anything. IT'S HURTING HIS OPPONENT. As long as he's not actively doing it, he can maintain his distance and let the statement do its work. He doesn't have to say a thing. Fact is, Obama's got his own little word: "Bush." It works wonders.

Except for this is highly Politically Incorrect. Though the uses you said are true, about comparing it to communism, it has a closer resemblance to saying "Don't vote for the Jew!" (Actually, there are religious controversy constantly in Presidential Politics, JFK comes to mind as well)

He's not Muslim, but I agree that it is equally offending to say that that means he is not qualified to become president because of it. Something the news tends to ignore, but I believe Obama already stated that being Muslim shouldn't be an issue in the first place. (Although he has to be careful on the issue of calling someone prejudice given the backlash the race card causes... though honestly it's pathetic to hear some of the anti-Obamas make BS claims when you know the real reason why they'd never support him. (And some flat out say it as well))

This also reminds me of that Rachael Ray situation with Dunkin' Donuts where the company pulled the ad for being controversial because it looked like she had a scarf from Palestine (which turned out that the scarf wasn't even similar), with some even calling her a terrorist for it.

It's prejudice at it's most idiotic state, putting themselves on Par with paranoia at Salem Witch Hunt levels.

I just saw an ad about Ayers. I wonder if that will get any traction since until now the Weather Underground was a historical footnote and a joke. The U of M weather site was named after them as a tongue in cheek gag.

Only now that it can used against Obama are they a big, huge, terrible terrorist organization out to kill your grandparents' babies. Apparently all the Republicans and their attack dogs have left is creating irrational fear among the masses.

I'd still vote for Obama if he was Muslim because I'm sick and tired of the Republicans.

if he were a muslim it would not change my opinion of him much at all. In fact, it might even assist him in dealing with the middle east. but, in general, it's all about policy.

tbh the whole muslim thing is mostly just to scare voters - especially jewish voters, who make up a critical swing block in some states like Florida.
