So what was the point of Nando, honestly?

Both Ash and Dawn's rivalries with Nando were so ridiculously boring and underplayed that it makes me wonder what the point of his character was.

Even the Nando/Zoey interaction, which we had for a grand total of 1 episode before the GF, is nothing interesting. The Nando Vs. Zoey battle was definitely one of the best contest battles in the series however.

I honestly can't understand for the life of me why Nando was introduced in the show. They failed at showing why he was good at both Gyms and Contests, his rivalries with both protagonists was dull and forgettable, and the only memorable thing was the Nando/Zoey GF fight.

They did a terrible job with Kenny too, but at least I know why he was on the show. Nando just seemed like a throwaway character.

Wow. You really know how to cut to the core of a man.

I'm sorry if I don't like poorly thought out rivalries. The guy had potential, but the writers failed to realize it.

Nando was a good idea that was horribly executed.

The same point as the possible E4 arc and the GS ball. Just something that they chose to drop.

Honestly, I wish Nando didn't lose at the preliminaries considering Zoey's issue with him is that he's a trainer that participates in both battles and contests. He just proved her right. Then again, Fantina proves her wrong.

Nando would have made a great serial killer if they ever added an horror aspect of Pokemon.I highly doubt other than episodes with scary ghost Pokemon, something like that would never happen.

As an extra rival. For both protagonists if I might add. I doubt he was even intended to be anything special like what you seem to have hoped for, Gliscor'd.

He did beat her the first time they met at the Hearthome Contest, however. And she started to change her views after that.

Nando is the Pokemon Jesus and he came to walk among the main characters to study their ways. However, he grew insanely bored with their lack of chemistry and went off screen to better more interesting things. However, the cameraman is contracted to follow Ash and Dawn, not Nando. So while Nando did the cool stuff, his path only cross the group's a couple of times. He then had a final battle with Ash and got fed up and left, seeing no more point in trying to understand the ways of Ash Ketchum and Co.

I didn't have a serious answer outside of, "Beats me. He did nothing."

I assume the writers no longer wants random characters to just show up to fill the hole in facing the protagonists during the league/contests prelims. And what better idea than to create one character that serves this purpose for both quests and simply just spent 3-4 episodes on the guy. Nando was hence created.

Given how much rivals there were in DP, can't really blame them for not incorporating too much into Nando. Compare to the other rivals, he's more of a filler rival. He's the olives to a pizza.

Uh, to look cool? He has a harp, man. A harp with Mew on it.

But I'd also have to say that it seemed like his character idea was dropped. He was there early on a couple of times, and I was all "This is nice. It's a guy that does both journeys. Cool!"

And then off he went from the cliff of the great beyond, almost never heard from again. (Sigh) I can only hope for some other character similar in idea to this one for "Best Wishes" or whatever.

I think he was just a "hey I can be a rival for two people" kind of character who was not handeled as well as he could have been

Scott, Nando can be pretty intense with the way he battles just look at how he looks when he was battling Ash and Zoey he's really intense and into it. He has no drama in him because he doesn't take issue with the way other people behave or think. He's a really cool character that is always calm, collected, and focused on the task at hand. That's why he's such a brilliant coordinator. If you ask me he should've won the Grand Festival because he is that awesome and the Zoey vs. Nando could have been the finale. Not only that he's very versatile in his abilities. He's just a really great guy. So he's not focused on it's because he's just so perfect.

Nando only got 3 episodes early on, then disappears entirely till the GF.

When DP first started it seemed like Nando was going to be a big deal. Although to be fair it seemed like Kenny was going to be important too, and we all know how that went.

DP dropped the ball with a lot of rivals. It seems only Paul and Zoey really got a lot of screentime, everyone else has only a handful of appearances.

Just a good Idea that went wrong. Thats all he was.
Maybe next, there will be a similar character who will be featured much more often. Thats what I hope for anyway.

I think that he was there to have another rival for Ash and Dawn.

Maybe the writers did have more of a plan for Nando, but it got lost somewhere. Not that I'm at all surprised, considering my low opinion of the writing staff.

I don't know, Barry got a good amount of time when he came into the series.
At least that's what I thought, course Paul and Zoey are going to have more screen time though, there Ash and Dawn's main rivals. Ask for Nando's point, well I guess to say some one can be in both contests and gyms.
Its always been gyms or contests in the series, not once has there been a character that was in both. I thought it was a good idea till I forgot about him a few times. I never took him or Kenny seriously.

To prove that pokemon trainers can also be pokemon coordinators, and vice-versa.
That's the only real point of Nando.
I originally believed that he was going to be involved in the Dialga and Palkia subplot, same as Cynthia, but he was thrown away for cameo appearances in contests.
Then again, none of the rivals (except for Paul) actually got any "real" screentime.

Well I think having Nando is better than having different CotDs at different contests/the GF/the league. He was also there to show the whole "doing gyms and contests" thing and give Zoey a bit of backstory. Perhaps it was also to give Zoey a rival because the writers knew they would do a Paul vs Barry league battle and wanted a rivals battle in the GF too.
Sure, they could have done more with Nando, but they could have done a lot less. He could've just been in that one episode.
