Like plot, characters (main cast, villains, side characters and the pokemon), the animation, if it's actually interesting, and how consistent, and music.

And i want valid reasons okay?

I like it, it's a fresh way to revitalize the anime with an interesting plot-heavy story that keeps changing and evolving. The characters are fun, watching them developing their own battle style and face their fears has been a blast. There's room to improve? Of coooourse, many secondary characters don't have clear story roles or development and sometimes the plot kinda drags. But if you told me 4 years ago "The first Ash-free anime will be a lore-heavy story with three protagonists who go around the world accompanied by a bunch of adults and are pursuit by a mostly joke-free Team Rocket, and has minimum references to what came before" I'd never believe it would turn out this good.

Need more serialized Pokémon anime like this. I think we've been doing good these past few years. Liko and Roy and Dot are good protagonists and even Ult I don't mind unlike so many others. If the next series after this can continue in a similar vein, I think we would be in the best place.

Back then I'd have said yeah, this is the best Pokémon series since S&M and that first half is still great. I loved the new protagonists and characters (Dot, Friede and Amethio are still my big favourites) and seeing the whole story pan out, the animation was solid and it felt like such a refreshing change of pace for the anime that I was always eager to see more each week.

The ending of the Laqua battle and the news that they were doing a timeskip really excited me for what's next to come... but then the timeskip happened and suddenly, the show has just lost whatever charm it once had and it isn't as good as it was before. Roy has taken a turn for the worse becoming this incredibly boring Friede-like character who doesn't have an ounce of the personality he has, his Lucario is the worst one we've ever seen in the anime and just so boring to see, Ult hasn't added anything to the team for me and I'd have preferred seeing Amethio joining the group fully, the girls got massively sidelined battle wise for the first timeskip arc which sucks especially when Liko was making quite a bit of progress, the animation has really dipped in quality (there's a few great sakuga bits but not anywhere near as much as before), the Blueberry visit may as well not have happened with how little training we saw and the Kalos mini-arc sucked.

There's still some good bits and episodes but it is such a shame to see Horizons is now just not reaching those same heights that it did earlier and that sucks cause I wanted to see it succeed after how mostly dreadful Ash's sendoff season was. Here's hoping the upcoming final battle against Spinel and the Explorers still delivers and they don't end up dropping the ball on that too.

So 50/50 or a mixed bag?
Though I have to say I think i foresaw the show's shortcomings thanks to the introduction of laquiam, liko's losses in arc 3, too much emphasis on the six heroes, gibeon's characterization and poorly done motivation (he want to be immortal using the laquiam), lucius is bland as a character and him being liko's great great grandfather very predictably, and laqua being a generic forest in top mount kurumi, and most importantly the explorers becoming less of a threat especially when spinel took over.

A mixed bag. It starts really well but they've not been delivering the way they did before the timeskip happened.

Agree
(kinda reminds me of hirogaru Sky precure and yet even this show's latter half at least have the writers trying post cure majesty and I think the characters are much more interesting)
