Hey guys!

The summer is always a good time to freshen things up around here, and with that, you're going to notice a handful of changes in the coming weeks, and some much sooner than that. My first plug is to participate in the Summer Fundraiser, which is helping to raise funds for a new server. It benefits you directly if you choose to donate--if you want to see how, scroll past the next two paragraphs to "And now for the big reveal." Otherwise, read on from here.

First of all, we're going to be doing a bit of forum reorganization. Nothing major, just creating a new top-level category or two. No forums are going to be eaten up in the change, which will be coming within a day or two--we're actually going to add a forum. But more on that later.

We're also going to be moving to a new server (or servers) in about four weeks. We've already put in place a handful of measures which should, ideally, cut down on server strain, but after the move, there will be significant improvement in site response time. We are also looking into increased anti-SPAM measures in the coming weeks; while SPAM is under control, it would be much easier to reduce it than continue chasing it down wherever it pops up.

And now for the big reveal. Our donors are the primary supporters of this site, and without them, we couldn't pay the bills. The staff has come to the consensus that the donors deserve a say in how things go around here, if they want one, because they are the ones keeping things running. Thus, we will be creating a new forum, the Bulbagarden Development Forum, which will be visible to anyone who at some point has donated $20US or more, and will be opened to any future donor who chooses to donate that same amount (or more). The staff chose $20 as the cutoff because it prevented people from donating very little to get a big say, but it was not so excessive as to be out of reach for any of our members.

The Bulbagarden Development Forum, as I mentioned, will discuss the site's future projects and initiatives. A PM will be sent to those invited to the Forum when we get everything set up, informing the donors of the deal and such. This means that there will no longer be any truly 'secret projects': all members of the Development Forum will be able to see what direction we're going. If you want in on this, all you have to do is donate $20 or more. No strings attached.

So that's where we're headed from here into probably late July. It's an exciting time, and I suspect more things than what I've mentioned will pop up before August winds down. Stick around and be amazed, and have a great summer!
