Okay, I'm looking for some training advice for Pokemon HeartGold. I have all 16 badges and my team is lv. 58-60.

As you can see, that's too weak to challenge Red or have rematches with the E4. Heck, even rematches with some gym leaders might just about wipe out my team entirely.

And even then, I can only challenge the gym leaders again on certain days and times depending on the gym leader. Anyone have advice on other training methods or ways to beat Red? Should I just catch Mewtwo and Lugia and use them? xP

Seriously, the best way to train at that point IS to rematch the gym leaders, and that level range is about right to battle them. It might be a bit difficult but it is the most reliable way to level grind in HGSS. Build up to about mid 70s and then you can think about battling Red.

Hrm, I see. I guess I have no choice then. xP

I just suicide grinded against the elite four for a while, because I coudn't be bothered getting the phone numbers and waiting for rematches.

Mercilessly throwing your team against the Elite Four to get as many exp. points as they can get before you get wiped out, rinse and repeat. The more you level up, the further and further you get, until you can just beat the Elite Four for exp.

^This is what I did, literally right after I beat the Elite 4 the first time. Before I ever started exploring Kanto i'd beaten the Elite Four 32 times.

If you want to do it easy way catch the Mewtwo and just keep using Barrier-Amnesia-Barrier-Amnesia while healing and then sweep Red's whole team with Psychic.

Also if using items strategically you can beat Red with all your Pokemon around lv.40.

If you want to do it fun way I suggest do the rematches and bulk your team up a bit more and try to concentrate your team around a weather condition (I assume Sunny Day would suit you best.) The real powerhouses of Red's team are his Lapras,Snorlax and Blastoise and I've always concentrated my team to easily beat these three.

You can do it! Your team is just right! Buy revives, full restores and yoo-pi-ka-yay!

^Yeah. If I remember correctly both Blastoise and Lapras have Blizzard and of course due to Hail it never misses.

I don't have any weather moves though. I suppose teaching somebody Sunny Day would help though, since my Bellossom's ability is Chlorophyll (came in handy when trying to catch Ho-Oh. Whenever Ho-Oh used Sunny Day, Bellossom was fast enough to put it to sleep). But I'm still not sure if using Mewtwo when I catch it would be the better option. Here's my team and their moves.

Typhlosion
- Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Rollout
- Rock Climb

Nidoking
- Poison Jab
- Earthquake
- Earth Power (my Nidoking has decent enough sp. atk)
- Megahorn

Crobat (shiny)
- Air Slash
- Fly
- Poison Fang
- Mean Look (going to use this on Latias when its HP is low and I try to catch it)

Bellossom
- Leaf Blade
- Leaf Storm
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder (I use this to help me catch legendaries)

Dewgong
- Surf
- Waterfall
- Aqua Tail
- Ice Beam

Ampharos
- Charge Beam
- Discharge
- Power Gem
- Rock Smash

The one thing that concerns me is that I have absolutely no moves that trump Snorlax besides Rock Smash...

Always understand, Red's the most powerful trainer in the game. Some would say in the series. If you're not going to put another weather move on your team then have plenty of healing items as Hail will never end and cause a lot of damage.

Sunny Day can defintely help your team out. Hail is a permanent effect of Mt. Silver. it'll cause damage to your pokemon and outright kill Bellossom. However, the worst thing it does is make sure that Blastoise, Lapras and Snorlax's Blizzard attack will NEVER miss. Thats really something you wanna try to avoid.

Pikachu shouldn't be a problem. Its defense is atrocious. One well placed attack will take it out. Its been this way since way back in Gen 2.

Getting rid of Hail will definitely take away a lot of Blastoise and Lapras's bite. Sunny Day will weaken any water moves they have. Ampharos will be the perfect pokemon to use to take them out in this situation, especially if Hail's gone. Bellossom can also be used, but I wouldn't really reckomend it. If Hail's gone and Sunny Day's in effect you have a good chance and can definitely KO them, but there's still the risk of one of them getting a lucky Blizzard off. If you teach any of your pokemon Solarbeam to go with Sunny Day they'd be perfect for this situation as well. NOTE: Lapras takes no damage from Hail so you do NOT want to go up against it when Hail is active and its HP is massive so make your hits count. In fact, if you chose to use Bellossom to take it out i'd reccomend putting it to sleep right away and then just wailing on it with a few grass moves.

Charizard's power will be boosted by Sunny Day, so i'd recomend getting your Dewgong to take it out quickly while Hail's in effect, as Sunny Day will weaken Surf, Aqua Tail, and Waterfall. You wanna make sure you take out Charizard in one shot so it's ability won't activate. Under Sunny Day this could make it a real threat. Flare Blitz causes recoil damage and Blast Burn takes a turn to recharge so even its flame attacks give you openings to take it out.

Venasaur doesn't have Solarbeam so Sunny Day won't give it too much of an advantage. It will however enable your Typlosion to take it out on the first try. If hail's in effect it would also do considerable damage to Venasaur and Dewgong's Ice Beam could then be used. If for some reason Typlosion and Dewgong aren't available then Crobat would have to pick up the slack. Watch out for Frenzy Plant though if you use Dewgong.

If Hail isn't active then Snorlax's Blizzard won't be such a threat, though it will still be there. Honestly, Snorlax is one of his hardest pokemon to take out. Low Kick is really the most effective move against it as it does more damage based on how much the pokemon weighs and its super effective. I'd suggest teaching it to one of your pokemon and then putting Snorlax to sleep. Once its asleep just Low Kick it until it faints.

Well, I was actually thinking of either using Typhlosion's Rollout or Ampharos's Power Gem to take out Charizard since rock type moves will do quadruple damage to it. xP

I also thought my Dewgong might be able to deal with Snorlax because its ice type will give it resistance to Hail and Blizzard.

Haha both ways work. I myself always use water to take out any fire because water's my favorite type. I simply suggest Low Kick, because its the best move you could use. Like you said though, Dewgong won't have to worry about Hail. But Bellossom will if you take the time to put Snorlax to sleep first.

Very true!

By the way, I actually battled Red a couple times today just to see how well my team fairs now. I managed to take out half of his team on the second try, two of them being Lapras and Blastoise. I came VERY close to knocking out Charizard as well.

That's a pretty good start, if I do say so myself. :p I just need to level up some more.
