I mentioned in a previous post that I stopped watching the Pokemon anime around the beginning of the Johto League and didn't start watching the series on a regular basis again until Diamond and Pearl started. I've managed to catch the first 40 episodes of Advanced Generations but I missed just about 80% of the Johto league episodes. Seeing as how this is a seriously kick ass community I was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions for me that I've been curious about for years.

1) Did they ever explain what happened between Brock and Professor Ivy?

2) Was there ever any use for the GS Ball? (I believe in the game it was used to catch Celebi)

3) Does Ash at the very least ever reference Primape or Pidgeot again?

4) I remember catching the very end of an episode where Brock went home again and for some reason he yelled at his parents. What was that all about? Did his father leave again?

Thanks a lot guys.

No.

Ivy got like one mention in Destiny Deoxys irc (dub only I think), the GS Ball has NEVER APPEARED AGAIN WHATSOEVER, and they didn't even mention Primeape even at the mention of the P-1 Grand Prix in a Johto episode, and have given us countless cock-teases of Ash or Pikachu riding a Pidgeot.

To be more specific, in "Fighting Fire with Flyer", Ash mentioned the fact that he had a Pidgeot. And he also said that he might go back and see his old friend again someday.

Of course, that never happened, though. ^^;

Oh yeah.

BUT HE DIDN'T!

I half expect when Pidgeot does show up Ash won't even remember him.

I doubt that.

I mean, he might not have recognized it at first, but Ash remembered his Lapras when it came back in "Lapras of Luxary". I bet he could also remember his Pidgeot as well (that is, if he ever sees it again).

I think it's safe to say now that following the 10th anniversary celebrations and an entire trek around Kanto again that there is no chance whatsoever of Pidgeot, Primape, Butterfree or Haunter ever, ever, ever reappearing in the anime ever again.

It could probably be pretty safe to say the same for the GS ball, but you never know - if Ash and crew do end up in Johto again, we could see them bumping into Kurt again. If Kanto's Battle Frontier is any indication though, they'll wind up in Azelea town and neither Kurt, nor Apricorns nor GS Ball will be in sight at all.

I'd be really disappointed if that were the case.

I wanna know what's in the GS Ball! And if they do go back to Johto, that's one thing I wanna find out about! ^^

And for the record, I LOVE Johto. I really hope they go back there. XD

I'd say (as would be the pretty obvious choice) that Celebi was meant to be inside of it. So, possibly it was meant to be a plot point in the 4th movie orginally or maybe even something similar to the whirl islands saga within Johto itself.

But if it was originally going to be a movie setup (and fresh off the heels of the first movie when the GS ball was first introduced, it's not that unlikely), and then that was abandoned, it wouldn't be hard to see why the GS Ball itself just faded off into the darkness.

Certainly, Celebi emerging from it now would be little more than an anti-climax, after Ash has encountered it twice and it's been featured in the anime 3 times already.

Celebi is exactly what I had in mind when I posted that.

It'd be like Scizor being inside it.

Anyone also wonder why the writers blew off Ash's Johto Pokemon team the way they did? When Johto was coming to an end, all of Ash's Kanto Pokemon returned to save Ash in the league competition.

Then, the Johto crew gets abandoned at Oak's without a goodbye, and continue to rot there for the rest of the series, the only comebacks we got were Heracross and Phanpy/Donphan.

Anyone notice that the classic team of Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charizard is always reunited in each gen, yet the team of Bayleef/Cyndaquil/Totodile/Noctowl have been completely forgotten about?

It seems like the writers dumped them in one swell swoop and never had them return. I honestly feel sorry for Ash's Johto team, they feel like the "forgotten" team of the anime and never really did all that much.

Come on, guys, it's obvious who is in the GS Ball, since there is one Pokémon (that we know details of) who has yet to be revealed...

I so would not be surprised if the plot of the entire Pokémon series is already planned and they knew from the beginning they would save the GS Ball for Johto remakes.

Scott, the old Kanto Pokémon were surely used in Battle Frontier because the series took place in Kanto. I agree that they were dumped, but at the time the series was into that whole 10th anniversary thing so bringing back the Kanto starters seemed obvious.

Oh, and Ebichuman, Primeape and Pidgeot did cameo in the 10th Japanese opening, "Spurt!", and in the original "GLORY DAY" ending, but I know that's not what you were looking for.

Wow, thanks guys. It looks like I didn't miss much. So they really never said anything about Ivy and Brock or the GS Ball? Although now that I think about it the Celebi movie was not only my least favorite Pokemon film but I think it's one of the worst anime films ever produced so I guess an anticlimactic story arc was fitting for it. But after all of that build up I was really hoping they would tell us what happened to Brock.

The Brock thing is not a big deal. Misty's line, "She probably dumped him" works well enough. There's no reason for them to reveal the exact reason as its best left to the imagination.

The GS ball is a long-running plothole though, you don't build up a big mystery for something and then just dump it and pretend it never happened.

Im in a similar position to Ebichuman, in that i missed alot of the latter johto and early advanced stuff, so, really, they didnt even say anything at ALL about the GS ball?

Not even "maybe one day we'll find an answer"?

A cliché?

A cryptic clue?

A pikablu?

Nothing?

Could the GS ball perhaps be some kind of master ball? I doubt its some kind of mystic relic, as we know that pokeballs havnt been around for more than 50 years (in thier current form, as we see Sammy Oak in movie 4 using some crazy wind up box) .

i agree with Lisa....

personally, i loved the Johto season a lot. However if Ash and co. do return there, i think Misty needs to be with him also.

Hmmm maybe if the gs ball is not an old pokeball it could be a pokeball from the future! Celebi brought it back in time maybe accidently maybe under the orders of a mysterious future trainer and the reason noone can open it is because it has an anti-theft lock and only will open for someone with the same DNA as the trainer. They head back to Johto and somehow Max or other young trainer gets hold of it, it pops open and super cool future pokemon pops out. Evil people find out capture it and Ash and co need to go save it. A major disaster happens and the only one who can sort it is future poke. Ash and co save future poke and future poke saves the world! Then Max/young trainer releases it realising the power is too much for them at the mo promising to recapture it when they are ready.

There a completely pointless almost non-damaging to the continuity film plot.

GS BAll - aparently in a Japanese episode the GS ball broke and Mew came out and that was leading to the first movie. Or celebi was supposed to come out for the 4th Movie. (Something like this)
