Hello there!

I've been thinking earlier, that although Bulbapedia is full of information, actually having pretty much everything related to Pokemon, it somehow lacks organization in each page. For that reason, I thought of some changes that could fix this situation at a certain level.

Information Boxes

To begin with, in my opinion, the templates for the Characters and Games should change to become better looking, and more practical. Each category would have a different template. For example, character templates could have round edges, while normal edges would be for general game/anime/manga/etc templates. For different categories as in games, anime, manga, different colors could be used. For example main game characters would have a red template with round edges, while anime characters a green template with round edges. Similarly, articles for games themselves could have red templates with normal edges, while general anime/movie ones green template with normal edges. Here's one template I made for the characters of the main games.

Some reasoning on some "different" categories I've chosen:

Names: I was thinking that it would be fair for more than one names to be on front. There have been a lot of debates earlier about the names of some characters. The most common example is Leaf and Blue. This way, it would be possible for both Leaf and Blue to be on the front of the character page. Furthermore, names like Ash for Red, Gary for Green, Ruby for Brendan, could also be mentioned.

First Appearence: Instead of mentioning all the games a character has appeared in, it would be much more practical to put the first game each one have appeared, along with the year that it was released. I believe that for characters like Oak, the character box starts to become more and more unpractical.

Quotes

Furthermore, quotes and descriptions of or about each character could very easily be added at the begining of each character page, decoratively. I believe that it would give each page a much different air, making it aesthetically better.

Headers and Article Categories

Probably my biggest worry about Bulbapedia. Each character page has different categorization, with no templates being used at all. For Blue/Leaf for example, it's just "Story" and "Optional Names". I believe that this is one thing that should change radically. Here's an example on how I would imagine a character page for let's say Red.

-General Information
-Biography
-Role
--- In Red, Green, Blue and Yellow
--- In Gold, Silver and Crystal
--- In FireRed and LeafGreen
--- In Other Games (cameo appearences, or appearences in Battle Games, like Stadium, Colosseum and XD)
- Pokemon
--- Listing of Pokemon Red has used, he has seen using in artworks, etc.
--- Teams used in Games
- Counterparts (General Information + Main Article in another page)
--- Ash (Anime)
--- Red (Special)
--- Red (Pocket Monsters)
--- Other Counterparts
- Trivia
and possibly other categories

I used the template shown earlier, as well as the quotes, in the pretty much dead Pokemon Wikia for showcase, since I thought I shouldn't add it in Bulbapedia without asking, and here's the result.

http://pokemon.wikia.com/wiki/Blue_(game)

So, what do you guys think about my ideas?
Would anything of these be able to be used in Bulbapedia?
I know that it's most likely a no, but I think it's worth the try. :p

One, never mention that other wiki, yeah that one, the one that we hate. Quotes of game characters are kinda hard to do, and with all the crap that's been said by other characters... why bother.

As for the infoboxes, we're getting around to them, but there are other things that need work besides them. They will come in time.

As for headings... yeah, might need work. But there's the fact that there's vast differences in all characters across all generations...

I don't see why you'd hate the other wiki if there's no competition or threat at all... :p

As for the quotes, characters of the day don't need them. But for major characters there are ALWAYS some options. I think it's unreasonable to scrap a good idea for such a reason...

I might be able to work around the style I mentioned earlier, but I will need an 'ok' before I do so, since the articles would most likely completely change.

Wikipedia doesn't do that either. It doesn't look especially professional, if you ask me. It'd be far more dramatic if Patrick Henry's article started with "Give me liberty or give me death," or Leonidas of Sparta's started with "THIS. IS. SPARTA!" but it just isn't, because encyclopedias don't do that.

Wikipedia is not as similar to Bulbapedia, to compare the two.
Check Mariowiki and Final Fantasy Wiki. Both have quotes...

i was siding with evkl actually. new ideas are always welcome, but no reason to get annoyed when your ideas are turned down.

Why? He also compared Bulbapedia with Wikipedia.

Either way, I'm not annoyed by the fact my ideas are turned down. :p I just don't see why there's no active discussion about all these stuff, and just future plans to look at them. Infoboxes, for example, are a matter of some minutes... :-/

Hope someone will care to fix them, eventually. :p

The leader of Project CharacterDex, PsychicRider, and I have been discussing various updates for the CharacterInfobox. We'll get there eventually.

i probably misread something somewhere, and although you might not see the discussions, i assure you, they do happen very often.

The reason we hate the Wikia-That-Must-Not-Be-Named is because they've plagarized Bulbapedia.

But I phail in every aspect of BP editing, so I can't talk.

Every time I edited it got changed by one of the moderators. xD

With any luck, most of the infobox templates should be updated to matching styles eventually; we already have a bit of a color-coding thing going (although it's probably not "official").

The roundy/normal idea is nifty, but not really workable; if you look at the rounded templates in a browser other than Firefox, they appear as normal corners. So it's important that currently, the rounded corners stay as nothing more than visual fluff. (there's always a chance that the border-radius code gets more widespread support, but that'll be quite a while.)

The quotes are another nifty idea, but they don't really seem too necessary to me. It's a sebject that would be constantly plagued with edit wars and conflicts (unlike Naruto, many characters have a lot of good choices for a quote). Ash probably says "Go! Pikachu!" more than enough times to rival Naruto's "Believe it!", but even that would be a hotly contested deal. So my vote's a "no" on this idea.

Some ideas from the page layout might be workable, though. None of those sections on BP are really my specialty (I generally stick with the Moves and whatnot in the games, not the characters are storylines), but I like the "Counterparts" section. We already have this section, but I'd like to see it divided up a bit more, listing each seperate counterpart... well, separately.
