Some thoughts on shinies

I've never seen this mentioned before, so here goes. In the new generation, I'd like to see some expansion on the concept of shinies.

When I first read about shinies, I thought it was an awesome idea. But as time's gone on, something's really started to nag at me. Why is every shiny of a given species the same colour?

There are a lot of shiny sprites that are nigh-indistinguishable from regular sprites, like Garchomp. Then there are those that are just ugly. For my part, I hate Nidoqueen and Miltank's shiny sprites, even though I love both of these Pokemon.

What I'd like to see is the introduction of more shiny varieties. Maybe make shinies a little easier to come by, but give each species multiple variants. So while it would be easier to acquire a shiny, it would be more difficult to get a shiny of the specific colour that you wanted.

So... that's my idea. It's really unlikely to be implemented, given that shinies are only barely acknowledged within the games themselves, but I'd be interested to know what anyone else thinks.

...I'm guessing that the only change to shinies are the shiny sprites for the new Pokemon...

I think a popular idea (from what I've seen) is to do a kind of Spinda thing where every pokemon has a certain unique (not necessarily having hundred of unique characteristics [ex: my nidorino is a darker shade of pink and someone else is the same shade of pink]) characteristic.

I'm all for variation in each pokemon.

I had a shiny Electivire for three days after trading for it before I noticed it was (I didn't use it in battle it would be total derp if i missed that.) Perhaps the worst shiny on record. Like, 2 pixels change from red to blue. So yes I would like to see, if not multiple shinies for every Pokémon, the improvement of a few shinies.

It's not as if it's common knowledge what every shiny looks like, so i think this is one of the few areas where GF could tweak a few things with minimal fuss

Edit: Ok the worst shiny after those where the difference is only visible in side-by-side full zoom comparison

I think that some Alternate Coloured Pokémon just need a complete overhaul *points to Garchomp* What if they changed the blues for blacks?

Also, we need to be able to dress up our Pokémon. I want an Eevee in a top hat darn it.

I also really like the idea of variants when it comes to shiny pokemon. Or maybe there should be just general varients when it comes to pokemon in general.

For example :

Pidgey that can be different shades of brown, or have slightly different patterns.

Then you can have, beside that, shiny pokemon that have really obsure colouring. Like... A bright blue pidgey with purple headfluff.

... or something.

But more variation when it comes to pokemon would be A+. Gender differences and shiny pokemon are already a neat additive to the game, and I'd adore to see an expansion.

:3 These are just my thoughts.

I've especially taken a liking to the gender differences, and I didn't really notice them until I went on Marriland's pokedex and looked at male/female of some pokemon.

DAMMIT. Now I want ALL my Pokémon in top hats.

But ignoring Ryu and his infectious dreams, I wholeheartedly agree with you. The fact is I've been toying around with starting a "Worst Shinies" thread (my current selection: Phanpy. Bound to change), but I didn't want to hunt down that giantass picture of every pokemon's shiny sprite.

Some shinies are just terrible, and some Pokémon loan themselves to a number of variations. For instance, they need to come up with Gastrodons for Hoenn, Johto, and Kanto (WHHYYYYYYYYYY, SOULSILVER?! WHY DID YOU DROP THE BALL ON THIS?!), and Ditto and Kecleon should have, like, 12 versions. Anything with flames has about 4 choices built in.

The problem with all of this is that the more varieties something comes in, the less iconic any one of those variations will be. This probably doesn't apply to older Pokémon, but for newer ones? It'd be an issue.

Oh my God. I looked at Garchomp and now I can't unlook. There's more difference between the colors in DP and those in Pt than there are between regular and the sprite! This... this HAS to be a mistake, right? It HAS to be a mistake.

Gastrodon doesn't exist in those regions, but yes in new regions they might make more forms of gastrodon.

Funny you mention that, because this was posted not that long ago on another forum I sometimes read, when there was a debate going on about whether the SPR2010 shiny Pichu was an official North American event or not:

Would be a funny alternate forme; the British Gentleman Pichu!

you know, i wasnt exactly sure about the whole top hat thing in this thread, but this just conviced me

Can you imagine how many sprites would have to be made if there were multiple shiny sprites?

The main style of pokemon is the same, so the shinies should too.

Keep shiny's the same. It's just a differently colored Pokemon, it doesn't deserve a "different style." It's already a different color and sparkles...

Not sure why there's so much emphasis on shiny Pokemon.

And do not forget Arceus.

They should make a random color generator. IE each pokemon has 2 parts max that change to a random color. Eyes and skin. Skin part 1 and part 2. Skin and hair. Head and legs. etc

Maybe albino Pokémons, that'll be cool...

On a second thought, shinies are right just like they are.
