INTRODUCTION:

Compromise. That’s what is at stake in “Someone In Control”, what you’re willing to compromise to save your friends, your career, your positions, your Pokemon. In Pokemon we often times deal with world conquering, mustache-twirling villains, people you know are evil.

But here; anyone could be the villain, or the hero. Or, at least, that’s what I hope to get across. The stakes aren’t the world, not as grand as that. But it’s more personal, it’s our characters very souls. And that is far different from any previous experience.

This is not a journey for badges, to become the next Pokemon master, this is not to be the very best. It’s about not losing yourself while you deal with compromises. We're going to follow an ensemble cast as they uncover the mob's ties with the Pokemon League, and an aging crime lord whose attempted suicide has brought out the worst in him.

And the beginning of our tale isn't even its most horrifying moments! When the curtain finally falls, one man will be so twisted and unrecognizable, that the Pokemon League will never be the same.

PROLOGUE


The elevator ride to the top of the tower had been nauseating, not because this champion was afraid of heights, but because he feared entering the dragon’s den. As the doors to the lift slid open, the young man’s stomach settled, and he looked upon the suite, where a thick cloud of smoke littered the air.

The one-hundredth-and-fifth floor was only accessible from the elevator, it required a special key to be placed inside a lock and turned. This popped open a small panel with a 105 button. When pressed, it raised the occupants up and away toward the clouds, and to the small, intimate office suite.

The room was a sight to behold when the young man could finally see through the swirling clouds of smoke and ash. The entire back wall was really just a magnificent window that looked down onto the incredible city below. It was a cloudy night, the darkest it had been in days it felt like, and the city’s lights glowed so brightly it shined like a beacon, calling forth wayward travelers to its haunting beauty.

Against the window, lit only by the city’s lights, was an older gentleman, whom was also the source of the smoke. In his right hand, between his index and middle fingers, was a burning cigarette.

Sweat beads forming across his brow, the young champion properly slapped them away, then running his hand through his long, fiery red hair, he prayed he looked professional enough. Tightening his long cloak around his muscled physique, he strolled forward, with very deliberate steps.

Observing the older gentleman, the champion noted he looked high upper class, one of the most well dressed men in the city, possibly the enter region. His attire consisted of a brilliantly white suit, with a red, silk shirt and black bow tie fastened around his neck. He was topped off with a white fedora and a thick, black coat for those cold, autumn nights. And his boots were absolutely splendid; italian leather, genuine no doubt.

Even underneath the charisma and expensive attire, the champion still knew he was confronting the dragon within his own den. This was a gentleman who had singlehandedly wrestled control of the Elite Four and the entire Pokemon League. He was a monster, a snake in the grass.

“Lance,” the gentleman acknowledged between puffs of his cigarette. “You’ve arrived.”

Lance bowed his head curtly, showing the gentleman the appropriate, dismissive behavior of any right hand man. Lance was this man’s strongest accomplice, there would have been no success had Lance not kneeled down previously. He had become another one of the gentleman’s trophies, like a Pokemon to be called forth whenever his master desired.
The gentleman exhaled smoke from his flaring nostrils, and Lance was reminded of one of his star dragon Pokemon.

“Look at what we’ve built,” the gentleman said, spreading his arms out as far as they could go. As if he were to encase the entire world beneath him in his hold.

“You have been busy for a dead man,” Lance observed.

The gentleman’s lips still tightly together, a small, smug smiled formed. He flicked his burnt cigarette to the ground and crushed the last of its light out with the heel of his expensive boot. Lance eyed him cautiously, just barely able to make out the grey revealing itself along the sides of the gentleman’s pitch black hair, but his fedora hid any other clues of his proper age. The gentleman’s narrow eyes seem fixated on an object just out of reach, his brown irises burning with an intense need.

“The tales of my suicide were grossly exaggerated,” the gentleman explained. “Although, after I washed ashore of the attempt, I felt a certain sense of... clarity. Like a resurrection.”

His eyes moved to finally stare at Lance, and the young champion felt weak and cold. “Do you know the feeling?” the gentleman whispered with a hint of seduction.

At this, Lance felt a shiver of ice dance down his spine as he listened to the serpent, flicking his hissing, teasing tongue. Finally, the champion answered; “I do not.”

The older gentleman snaked his arm up along Lance’s back, finally creeping around the young one’s shoulders, the large, proud ring on the gentleman’s left index finger sliding along Lance’s shoulder blade. The man’s grip was tight, almost comforting.

“This is ours!” the snake said.

“We will see,” Lance replied.

He shook his head disappointingly. “What did you want, Lance?”

“The Plasma branch of Rocket Research has filed their initial reports, sir,” Lance explained, revealing a heavy black folder from beneath the folds in his cloak.

The gentleman snatched it away and carefully scanned over the details, he seemed to get an erotic charge from the details. “This is exceptional; We now have direct control over the League’s regional branches in international waters.”

Lance cocked a curious eyebrow. “What does that mean, Giovanni?”

Giovanni locked his powerful eyes with Lance’s. “Everything is going as planned.”

Lance felt his stomach twist into a knot and held back vomit, he could smell the nicotine this close to Giovanni’s lips. “Is that all?”

“Yes, leave me,” Giovanni declared, his broad, teethed smile escaping from his normally stoney disposition. There was a charge of ecstasy coursing through his veins.

As Lance carefully proceeded back to the elevator, he darted his eyes back one more time, to witness the dragon basking in his unrivaled victory. He had truly won. With the last of the Pokemon League under his control, Giovanni would become the most powerful man alive.
