So, since not every game character appears in the anime, do you think that they still exist in the anime's world? For example, the player characters that didn't appear in the anime. I know that we've seen Brendan, Lucas and Ethan (and Jimmy) before, but what about the others, since Ash is kind of a standby for the male player characters? Though, Red probably doesn't appear as Ash is based on him. And how about the rivals and Elite Four members? Same logic applies to Blue as for Ash, but how about the others, like Silver, Wally and Hugh?

Yeah in my headcanon any major character from the games exists in the anime too, even if they haven't made an appearance yet. It's already confirmed that both gender versions of a player character can exist in the anime at the same time (May and Brendan, or Dawn and Lucas for example). Brendan could likely be Professor Birch's son in the anime if we go by the RSE's logic. There's others that haven't appeared like any of the Unova player characters, but I believe versions of them can exist in the anime somewhere.

The only major exception to this would probably be Red as you said, since Ash is pretty much his counterpart in the anime. Interestingly enough, Leaf/Green/Blue has never appeared in the anime, but in my headcanon she's likely one of the two other Kanto Trainers who left Pallet Town alongside Ash and Gary.

Brendan and Lucas' cameos are the proof that yes, they do exist, but their lives and the paths they took are completely different. Though one has to wonder...would that really make them the "same" characters? What is Brendan without his relationship with May? Or Elio/Selene without their impact on Lillie's life?

I’ve always thought so! I know sometimes characters who don’t properly appear in the anime will make cameos in the opening crawls of Pokémon movies and that always made me feel like they were still around!
