Yeah. It's dated January 2008, but I didn't even know about this until now. (I was reading through the Network Decay TVTropes link in the Syfy thread and saw "Discovery Health, one of the few Discovery related channels to remain completely true to its concept (medical and health related shows) will be replaced in 2009 with a network devoted entirely to Oprah. Yes, you read that correctly: an entire channel dedicated to Oprah." almost halfway down.)

I hope that Mystery Diagnosis will still be produced (doubt it, though...

). By TLC, maybe...?

Oh God. Are we so addicted to her that this had to happen?

My god...an entire network dedicated to one individual (admittedly, she IS a cultural icon). That's...crazy. But I guess it was the next step for the woman. Never did understand people's fascination with her, though.

...what's Discovery Health Channel? o.o;

Holy crap, Oprah becomes more and more powerful with each passing day. Those "Oprah rules the world" jokes are becoming scarily accurate. I mean I love her and think her life is a wonderful example of triumph, but seriously?

she could bring down the entire video game industry all she needs to do is say they word and devote a show and/or magazine dedicated to "the evils of video games" why is anyone surprised that she could replace a discovery network

I wonder what my mom's going to say to this.

Dang, I kind of like her but now I'm beginning to think less of her.

Aw mostly dang, now how or where on earth am I going to watch such shows as "The Boy Whose Face Fell Off"?

I'm not surprised that she could, I'm surprised and angry that she is, and that she's specifically taking over DHC.

TLC, maybe? They show medical stuff occasionally... I think....

No she couldn't.

The video game industry has already been through those "lol games are satan in plastic form" with Doom and stuff. Been there, done that, got the now dusty, ragged, old t-shirt.

The only thing that can kill the video game industry is the industry itself.

She'd also get the wrath of gamers, which does exist. I don't know if anyone here saw, but when Cooper Lawrence, an author, appeared on the news to debunk Mass Effect for being essentially a "sex simulator", gamers went straight to Amazon and 412 one-star reviews appeared and 929 tags of "ignorance" appeared for her latest book. Would they do the same to Oprah? Oh yes.

I doubt Oprah would care much about video games, anyway.

Most of her shows seem to be about social justice issues or health, when they're not flat out celebrity fluff (from the ads I've seen).

She tends to stay away from the big OMG YOUR CHILDRENS ARE IN DANGER ISSUES. That'd be Dr. Phil's job.

No, Dr. Phil tries to crusade against video games, too. It's actually how I came to find out he was a quack, factually.

it was during the VTech shootings, before we knew ANYTHING about Cho or even whether or not the shooter was male or female, Dr. Phil blamed video games. Yep, we have no idea who did this at all, but Dr. Phil had managed to delve into the person's psyche and find out that video games triggered it.

I don't have a link on-hand for that, but yeah. If I find one I'll edit it in later.
