A lot of people think that the sonic games past 2003 suck. I think all of them (that I've played) are awesome, especially sonic riders: zero gravity. So tell me forum: What do you think of recent sonic games?

Well, let's look at the recent console Sonic games...

(I'm not going to include spin-offs like Riders or Secret Rings.)

Sonic Adventure - It hasn't aged very well but I still love it.

Sonic Adventure 2 - Suffers many of the problems from Sonic Adventure.

Sonic Heroes - Interesting concept, and generally a good game. Shadow would have been a great memory if he would have stayed dead after Adventure 2 though. >>

Shadow the Hedgehog - Fun to play when not too tedious, and the amount of cheesy lines makes it all worth it. (Where's that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald?)

Sonic the Hedgehog - Don't get me started on this one. >>

Sonic Unleashed 360/PS3 - This is a great game, the only problem is collecting the Sun and Moon medals to advance. Best Sonic game in years.

Sonic Unleashed Wii/PS2 - This is a completely different game than the other "version." This game wasn't actually made by Sonic Team, it was made by Dimps to cash in on Sonic's popularity with Wii owners. This game isn't nearly as good as the "true" version, but it's okay. Reviewers mostly preferred this one probably because there's, but fans preferred the 360/PS3 version generally. I personally think it wasn't very good; there was no platforming and in the night stages you had to kill every single baddie to advance. I wasn't impressed with this one at all, sorry.

Every main-console Sonic game after Sonic Adventure 2 suffers from a constant attempt to fix a formula that was never broken in the first place. When I play a Sonic game, I want to be placed in an open, linear region with a few obstacles and enemies, and have the ability to just go fast. Speed has always been the appeal of Sonic. Then they decided to bog it down with excess story and less meat-and-potatoes Sonic/Shadow (and sometimes Knuckles) speed.

I've only playes Sonic 2006 and Sonic Unleashed, both on the PS3.

I thought that they were both good, but I prefered Sonic 2006.

I stopped playing after they fired all of the original voice actors and hired the half-assed 4kids cast (Yes, it bothered me THAT much).

I haven't enjoyed a Sonic game past Sonic 3. Of course, I haven't played all of them, so I don't know, and it's been a long time since I played Sonic one, two and three.

Maybe the new Sonic The Hedgehog 4 (Project Needlemouse) will be good.

Sonic chronicles was ruined by such a stupid end and poor scratchy graphics.

Chronicles was a little different. Chronicles was chock full of references to the comics. Shade is a reference to Julie-Su, Knuckles' girlfriend in the Archie series, for instance. Imperator Ix is another, he seems to be a reference to the original Enerjak, also from Archie. There are at least two moments that are taken from the Fleetway comics. There is also a reference to the anime - the potted plant seen at the end of the series makes an appearance in Tails' workshop. There was rumor that Cosmo herself was set to appear in the game but was cut because they didn't have time.

Sonic was only ever good when it didn't take itself seriously, had fun cartoony visuals and lacked cheesy rock music. Mmm-hmm.

I liked sonic 1,2 and 3 + knuckles. But the newer ones are different.

Sonic adventure: It's old, but it rocks on DC and PC.
SA2: Same, but the DC version i think is better.
Sonic Heroes: OK, but some of the characters suck. Like team rose or whatever their called.
Sonic Advance: AWESOME!!!
Sonic Rivals: Great, but not as good as sonic advance.
Shadow The Hedgehog: It had slowdown on PS2, but it can be fun and it also had some lines that are funny because their so cheesy.
Sonic 360: Dear game devolepers: Trying to rush a game through devolepment will NOT give you a good final result.
Sonic Unleashed PS2: Day levels: OK Night levels: meh.
Sonic unleashed 360: Havent played yet.

Hopefully sonic 4 will be Awesome!

Anyone who says the first three Sonic games suck should be dragged to the underworld and jabbed in the shoulder with a stick for all of eternity. Of course, since then the series has slowly deteriorated.

Sonic Adventure - I would absolutely adore this game if it wasn't for Big's crappy ass storyline. Of course, to complete it you have to sit through six levels of "FWOGEE, WHERE AWW YOO!?" with a fishing pole. So, you're stuck with it. Oh well.

Sonic Adventure 2 - I really like this game, but it feels to me like you're not really doing a whole lot. Half the time the computer's doing half the game for you. But, it's still a speedy game and it's one of my favourites.

Sonic Heroes - Ah, the unavoidable fwogee hunter returns. Gee tee eff oh, fwogee hunter. This doesn't feel as speedy as the other games but it is a really cool concept. So, yeah, I like this game quite a bit too, but it doesn't seem almost half as good as the last two for some reason.

Shadow The Hedgehog - Fun, I guess. For the guns, the aliens and the pathetic scripting. Find the computer room. Hahaha. Fun times. But, having to choose what path you go on in each level just shoots the entire object of Sonic in the nether-regions.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 - I played this once around a friends, since I don't have an Xbox 360 or PS3. I hadn't played a new Sonic game since Shadow, and I had high hopes for this one. I'll give it cool graphics, I'll give it speed, I'll give it new ideas, and I'll give it general appeal. I won't give it the storyline or the little superspeed mini games. We want speed, Sonic Team, but not THAT much speed, so that it's impossible to control. We also don't want beastiality. Or necrophilia. And why the bloody HELL did you make Eggman look like that, hm!?

Sonic and the Secret Rings - I took a break from the games after Shadow the Hedgehog. I was satisfied with the series now, I guess. Until one day I decided to ask for this for Christmas, and I haven't touched it since. Jittery controls. Weird-ass storyline. Slow movement!? In a Sonic game!? No, no, no, no, NO!

Yeah, haven't bought another game since. Both Black Knight and Unleashed don't appeal to me, so I haven't bothered buying them. Don't get me started on spin-offs, I can go all day on what's wrong with them. All the way back to Sonic R. Sonic is awful at spin-offs. Stick to spin-dashes. I have sky-high hopes for Needlemouse.

Wow, I actually hated Zero Gravity, but I've loved all the other Sonic games I've played in the past few years. I have yet to uh, enjoy Sonic The Hedgehog. Looking forward to that... :dodgy:

As for the others, SA2B was the first Sonic game I ever played, then DX Directors Cut. Loved both, now I still love Adventure 2 but the first one hasn't held up so well. Still fun from time to time.

My main problem with the hate the more recent ones get is that people complain about alot of problems the first two had as well. Namely voice-acting, I don't see how people can knock Jason Griffith then turn around and orgasm at the thought of Ryan Drummond as if he were the greatest voice actor that ever lived, they both suck. The only voice actors that have been any good are Deem Bristow and Mike Pollock, and they both voice(d) Eggman. If it were up to me, Jaleel White would voice Sonic, Mike Pollock would keep his job (unless they could re-animate the corpse of Long John Baldry, it all depends on the budget), and the rest is up to their discretion, the other characters don't matter that much.

A little out of the blue, I just want to say the Spagonia level in Unleashed is like... Melted caramel drizzled over ham. If you've never tried that, I'm saying it's good.
