The thing that's struck me most about Diamond so far, is ironically, the sound. The music is richer and actually very interesting - not simplistic and repetitive as usual. Everything sounds really great.

The chief thing I'm noticing is how more interesting the Gen 4 Pokemon cries are. Shinx actually sounds like a digitized cat meowing. Piplup actually sounds like a digitized bird chirping, and Pachirisu sounds like a voice actress going "Pachi!"

And then one of the Pokemon from before Gen IV comes along and hurts my ears with confusing and annoying screeching that sounds totally out of place with the new Pokemon. I was enjoying listening to the Pokemon chirp along with almost anime-quality voices when I run into an Abra and notice that it sounds like a computer's hardrive failing, and a Pikachu's cry sounds like a guitar string breaking. I seriously think all of the Gen I-III Pokemon cries gotta be totally redone for Generation V . . . what say you?

I'd say it'd be nice but the reason they haven't is because of the sheer amount of workload behind it - which is understandable really, by Generation 5 you're talking between 500 and 600 cries to do - that's almost as much SFX work as you'd get on a small movie.

I'd assume that the team that does the SFX is only very small, it could take them the majority of the development time between now and the release of Gen V just to accomplish that.

I don't really think it's too realistic :/.

Yes.

Btw, I had an orgasm when I heard Kricketune's voice for the first time.

Seriously.

Yes. Kricketune actually sounds like a digitized xylophone! And Budew sounds like a child laughing!

Most of the Gen IV cries sound like recordings from real life, albiet digitized and slightly distorted. That being said, a lot of Pokemon could have their cries simply taken from digitized and slightly altered stock sounds. Like an elephant's trumpet for Donphan or a dog's bark for Growlithe and what have you.

Well, the calls for the Pokemon in Generations I and II did get their calls enhanced for Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. Why they did continue for Colosseum/XD and PBR is beyond me.

I love the Gen IV cries I've heard so far. They actually sound like animals, as others here have said.

Ditto the love for the Gen IV cries. The Gen I - III pokemon cries do leave something to be desired in comparison. I figured that the game designers just didn't have the time and figured, "Hey. Pikachu is supposed to sound like this!" and so left them as is.

It's not a huge deal to me, but it would be nice to see them updated for Gen V, though.
