Why are there so many spam-bots sending PM's to people?
I get like 2 everyday...
Is there any possible way to filter these spam-bots from joining BMGF?
 
Yeah, i was wondering the same thing. I got one from someone (didn't open it, but saw what it said from my email) wanting me to go to some site to get rid of the viruses on my computer because there was 'virus activity detected'. I just got another one from CuriousssGirl, saying that i was 'very attractive and clever.' I looked at the person's page, and the biography on both of the spammers says 'Man.' These are the first spams that i got, so idk what's up with them. I think these users also got this email (said their names in the pm) : NyaChan;pika pal;Thunder410;Cody;Dogasu
Seriously, spammers, get a life! This is a pokemon site, not a place for spammers to get together!
 
iv seen some sites say, "whats this pokemon" with a pic, cos spambots havent a clue about da pokemanz

Yeah, i was a member of one of those sites, but sometimes my internet doesn't like to show pictures. One time when i had to battle someone (on some pokemon rp site) it wouldn't show the pic, so i just guessed. I was lucky; got into the battle.
 
Spammers are not Humans, they're programmed BOTS...

Don't forget to add me to that list! I got one from CurioussGirl too. The first spam PM that I've gotten since I joined.
 
there is a way to stop spambots from joining us I dont know if this forum software is capible but require capthica and some othr ingenious items to slow them down
 
And also, there's no way they can tell if there are viruses on your computer. Most likely if you follow the link they give you to 'get rid of your infections', you will probably infect your computer rather than healing it. These are definitely fraudulent and should never be taken seriously.
 
I had one that tried to run a script. Anyone else that got something like that`I just delete them when I get them...

Yeah, this has happened to me on another computer, so I always alt F4 anything that says i have a virus, even if it looks like my virus protection thing. (After it says i have a virus, i ran a scan to see if i really did, and i didn't. But viruses get pretty smart sometimes...)
Correction: People programming viruses get pretty smart sometimes :p
 
I have been re-sending spams I get to evkl with me telling him that it's spam and he has blocked these people for me.

I just got one from "Curiousgirl" or whatever...I just deleted it. But yeah, I fear this may be a big issue. How are spambots signing up for this forum?
 
Use the regular reporting method for PM spam, please. Sending them to me doesn't help anyone but me, and I'm not here all day.

Anyway, yes, we have methods in place to stop spambots but it's a cat and mouse game.
 
One of the methods we had for blocking spam, which filtered users based on IP and email, was creating too many false positives, blocking legitimate members from signing up. Sadly, since disabling that, we've seen a general upswing in spambots. We're currently looking into ways to increase our security there without placing a burden on users. Since the SPAM seems to be sent via PM with accounts that have no posts, perhaps we'll make a post requirement to send PM's.
 
how about if the pm contains certain key words, you have to type whats in a box or something.
 
You could always just allow only Contacts and Moderators to send you PMs by editing your options in UserCP. If you want someone to PM you, just add them to your contacts list.
