[Speculation] Non-RPG Pokemon games.

Let us pool our brains and speculate on Pokemon games that aren't RPGs. I was playing Half-Life 2 a bit back when it suddenly occurred to me that a puzzle-based first-person Pokemon action game would be the nads. If I can sound off, it'd be something like this:

The main character would be a young inductee into some Pokemon investigative agency. They're limited in resources but very well-meaning. She starts off with one of several starter Pokemon, using its special abilities to defend herself, weaken Pokemon to capture 'em, or just to kick some Poke-butt when necessary. Each Pokemon she captures (up to six, though she can swap out at terminals scattered across various maps) can be used to solve physics puzzles.

E.G.: there's a door in the level that needs to be opened. If our heroine has, say, an Onix or similar, she can simply call it out to bust through the door. But lo! The door's made of wood! If she can whip out a fire elemental, it can burn through. An ice elemental can make the door brittle, and another Pokemon can shatter it. A dark-type Pokemon like Murkrow can pick the lock. A psychic Pokemon can unlock it, or, to be flashier, lift and hurl some debris into the door to break it. That'd be a simple problem, of course; with Pokemon involved, the puzzles could get quite intricate.

It'd be something like a 3D, first-person Pokemon Ranger (just a guess--I've not played Ranger yet). There would be several big levels, and more of each level could be uncovered the stronger your Pokemon get. The player could never be in danger of dying, although she can't push her luck--there's no falling off cliffs, for instance, because she pulls herself to a stop before stepping over. But if she dramatically screws up, she has to "report to base," a game over followed by an immediate reset at the last quicksave.

I'd run this on the Source engine, so you can do the craziest physical stuff imaginable--send out an Aron to weigh down a teetering seesaw, for instance, or send forth a Scizor to cut the supports from under a bridge, sending antagonistic Pokeon into rushing water below. Good times...
