Speed Dating: Is it right for you?

Speed Dating with pokemon is for people that don’t like hacking, and find RNG manipulation too complicated, or find both methods to be illegitimate. This method will produce legitimate pokemon with high speed IVs and the desired Nature. Speed Dating is very simple but may take time. It relies on the only determinable and most important stat for a pokemon: SPEED. If you are looking for a pokemon that doesn’t require speed, then this isn’t the method to use. This method will get you a pokemon of the desired nature with amazing speed IVs.

There are places dedicated to how to hack pokemon or how to RNG pokemon, and there are less places on how to catch pokemon with good IV’s legitimately. Of course you try breeding for IV’s using the EV training Items (example: Power Anklet) and if you desire to do this instead then this guide can help you get a parent pokemon good for passing IV’s along.

Step 1: Nature

Decide which nature you would like your pokemon to be. The most desired natures in the metagame for offensive sweepers are Jolly, Adamant, Timid, and Modest. After choosing a nature it is time to capture a Synchronizer. Synchronizers are pokemon that can pass down their nature to a wild pokemon 50% of the time. The pokemon you will want to capture are either Ralts, Natu, or Abra.

This technique is simple. Begin capturing as many of these pokemon as you can until you get one with the desired nature and the ability Synchronize. This may take some time to do but after you have a good synchronizer, it can be used again and again to acquire other pokemon of that desired nature. Once you have your Synchronizer, it’s time to move on to step 2.

Note: For AR users, use the wild pokemon modifier along with a nature modifier to capture the right synchronizer. This can be done very quickly with an AR. The hacked pokemon you catch does not affect the legitimacy of the target pokemon.

Step 2: Calculating Speed

Go to the area where the desired pokemon is and capture one using your Synchronizer. When you get one with the right nature, this pokemon is the Blueprint. Go to the summary screen of the pokemon so you can see its stats.

Go online and find a “Pokemon IV Calculator”. There are several sites with one, most notably SEREBII.net. Enter the pokemon’s stats into the calculator, adjust the settings to your pokemon and its nature and click Calculate. You will then see what the pokemon’s estimated IV spread looks like. This is much more accurate for higher level pokemon.

Now raise your pokemon’s speed stat and calculate until the corresponding IV number says “31”. Once you hit this number, lower your speed stat until your corresponding IV number says “28”. Record the number of the speed stat.

Step 3: Obtaining the Stud

The Stud will be the pokemon you will use in your party to find your desired pokemon. This step can be simple… or difficult. You have the speed stat written down. Look through your PC boxes and find a pokemon with that speed stat. If you can’t find one, find a pokemon with the closest speed stat without going over (the price is right law) and level it up until it has the desired speed stat. If the blue print had a high enough speed IV, it can be used as the stud. Once you have a pokemon with the desired speed stat, move on to step 4.

Note: Using an AR to find a pokemon with the right speed stat is fast and efficient, and will not affect the legitimacy of the target pokemon.

Step 4: Speed Dating

Put your Synchronizer in the first slot of your party. Put your Stud in the second slot of your party. Next, battle your Synchronizer with pokemon until it faints. If it is fainted in the first slot, it will still pass along the Nature. This will put your Stud pokemon into play FIRST, allowing it to use a move.

Now go into the area where the target pokemon is obtainable. Now it’s time to Speed Date. Run into wild pokemon after wild pokemon. When you run into the target pokemon and it is the same level as the Blue Print, have your Stud use a battle move. If the Stud moves first, the wild pokemon’s Speed IV is lower than desired, so run away.

Everytime your pokemon is outsped by the wild pokemon, capture it. Either this pokemon has the desired nature and speed IV, or it’s a wrong +speed nature pokemon. Once you have captured a few pokemon using this technique, enter their stats into the IV calculator and see their IVs. If the IVs are acceptable, then you have yourself a GREAT POKEMON! If not… try and try again.

Speed is the only stat you can find out before capturing a pokemon. Using this knowledge along with the Synchronizer is the best way to obtain the pokemon you want. If you don’t care about speed for your pokemon then just use the Synchronizer. This technique only helps ensure the proper nature + good speed IVs, which is what every offensive sweeper in the metagame is after.

Other variables:

Pokemon aren’t always found at the same level in the same area. So when selecting your Blue Print, you can catch the lowest available pokemon in the area level wise and calculate from there. If you run into a higher level pokemon then the blue print was, you can either run away, or you can see if it ouspeeds you and capture it anyway.

The other method can be to capture the highest level Blueprint for the target pokemon. Then make sure your Synchronizer is the same level and use a Max Repel. This will ensure all of the wild target pokemon you run into are the desired level.
Conclusion: This is in my opinion the best way to obtain good, wild, legit pokemon. If used with an AR it can be done rather quickly.

Sychronizer: Pokemon that is passing its nature

Blue Print: Pokemon you use to calculate what speed your stud needs to have

Stud: Pokemon you use to find your prize pokemon
