I know alot of people have been a teensy bit bothered by the speed of battles in D/P/P... Well, I remember getting really fed up with Diamond which I borrowed from my friend, but Platinum sucked me back in. I think maybe it's because Platinum is slightly faster.

Anyone noticed how fast it is to level up in generation IV? You don't need alot of fights to gain sufficient EXP to evolve, and several of your pokemon hit practically level 20 by the time you reach Eterna City with the 2nd Gym.

In the previous generations you don't hit mid 20s until the 4th Gym.

Really? All my Pokémon were level 30 by the 4th Gym, Just battle any trainer you see and you'll level up easily.

Battles are faster in Platinum and Surf is defenetly a lot faster in Platinum than it was in Diamond and Pearl

The speed was tremendous. It went from rowboat to jetski. Seriously and the battles as well. I was at level 20 by Roark.

Things are faster for sure, especially levelling. I hadn't gotten anything to level 100 since Gold version, but suddenly with Platinum I've gotten whole teams to 100 easilly.

Opportunity to level with the Vs Seeker helps it alot, as does Gym Leader Club (Once you reach it) but even before those are available, there was always just a good number of trainers around. Double Wild battles alongside Cheryl, Mira, and Riley with constant healing after every battle also really helped speed the game up when approaching tough areas that would normally take more time.

Surf is awesome now too, I got really fed up with low-speed water movement in earlier games. Now surf's normal speed seems similar to running speed.

You must be doing something wrong if you haven't hit the 20s until the fourth gym.

However, I do admit that you can go through the game and have your Pokemon sufficiently leveled up soley from trainer battles.

Purely observation from G/S/C and I think R/B/Y? Not sure about generation III because I didn't really take note. I have to go back and check my game file. But I know battles are still faster in generation III by about 10s compared to Platinum. But I know for sure it takes more EXP to level up. And more levels to evolve the pokemon you get at the start like Mightyena, Wingull and what not. Which I think I was rather annoyed with because they still hadn't evolve by the 3rd Gym.

Anyway, I tend to raise large teams of more than 6 pokemon. Meaning I have approximately more than 6 pokemon equally leveled and so they tend to share the EXP from trainer battles around.

But in Platinum, just a few battles around the Eterna Forest and I have more than 6 pokemon hitting 20. With even more around lvls 16-19. A few in the mid 20s. And this is without VS. I haven't even gotten around using that stupid machine yet.. But I guess I'll start using it once I hit Hearthrome.
