Not a surprise, really. But Spider-Man 3 now holds the record for biggest opening day, biggest opening Friday, and biggest one-day take. Grossing around $59 million over the course of 24 hours, it's managed to get just over $4 million more than previous record holder, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. If the trend keeps up, it could break the opening weekend record held by Dead Man's Chest.

From most reviews so far, I'm gonna guess it's a bad thing. xfd But on topic, that record's so getting beat as soon as PotC: At World's End comes out.

No, the end was sad. It was good tears. :)

I liked it.

I watched the movie on Friday (it isn't counted in this results since I am just guessing it is the American box office figures.) It was a good movie - It was not as "too many villains" as I thought it was going to be.

Yeah, the international releases are separate (and, in 10 of the 16 countries that got the film before America, it broke records).

But the numbers are in, and with $148 million, Spider-Man 3 has beaten the previous record for highest opening weekend. Throw in the international numbers, and Spidey 3 has made over $375 million since its May 1 international opening. With Pirates 3 opening on Memorial Day weekend, I think it's got a fair shot at breaking this record. We'll see, though.

Wow that is great numbers! It beat out Pirates 3 by a few million over. Man, I think I want to see this movie. It looks great. I think it will be Movie of the Summer this year.

Congrats to Spiderman 3 for making record breaking numbers! *throws confetti*

Bruce Campbell & Stan Lee cameos:

I loved Bruce Campbell's cameo...it took me a few lines of dialogue before I recognised him as the French Waiter. It was such a Bruce role (B grade role in a A grade film or a A grade role in a B grade film.)

Stan Lee's Cameo however...that was just pointless...even the Cameo in X-men 3 (water hose guy) was better.

Also This one is a bit bigger spoiler.

Did anyone apart from me actually like the Saturday Night Peter scene. I mean until the Jazz part were you are meant to hate him

Updating this thread for two reasons:

1. Spidey 3 has grossed over $800 million worldwide since being released. WELL on pace to break the last Pirates of the Caribbean's worldwide record (like...1.5 billion worldwide).

2. Despite having a FOUR DAY weekend, AND setting a new Memorial Day weekend record ($20 million over X-2's record), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End failed to break Spidey 3's opening weekend record. Something that even I was willing to say was a given. Though, in all fairness, it couldn't open in the same number of theaters because of its length.

It's still nice to see a comic book movie holding onto a record.
