Spider-Man's New Look (My God...THE HORROR)

They've totally ruined Spiderman's character n the last couple years - stripped him of everything that made him decent:

1) Downplaying his greatest villains and introducing crap like Morlun.

2) Making his powers fucking magical in nature.

3) Ripping out his damn eye for shock value.

4) Putting him on a team he has no chemistry with.

5) Removing him from most of his supporting cast.

6) Giving him this shitty costume.

7) The ability to talk to Spiders? Sure, that'll come in useful.

8) Giving him some shitty alternate were-spider personality like he was some damn furry with a magical wild animal spirit living inside him.

Ultimate Spiderman or Spidergirl is definately the way to go. Hell, the movies are several times better than the character in the comics has been for years.

Zeta, I agree with everything you said (that I was aware of) except for the part about him joining the New Avengers. I ALWAYS loved it when he teamed with the old ones, and I think he fits perfectly into the new team (although they've messed up Cap's attitude towards him).

And I've been saying this since I first heard he was getting new powers and a new costume: This REEKS of electric Superman. I predict that within 2 years he's back to having his normal powers (and I PRAY that means no more organic webshooters, they were really the signal of his downfall) and normal costume (MAYBE they'll use the black and white costume instead, but I always liked that one more...gave him more of an actual SPIDER feeling). I think this goes hand-in-hand with the leather X-Men costumes as a VERY bad idea, and hopefully it'll be preceded by Beast's secondary evolution in the "heap o' crap" that's already populated by electric Superman, Azrael, the mutant population boom, and Dr. Strange splitting into however many people he split into (when he had the "Strange" essence/persona/whatever it was). And Heroes Reborn.

That is a bad Spidey-suit. But why are they making his powers magical? Apologies for not reading enough comics here, but he was bitten by a radioactive spider. That's why he can scale walls. And he developed the webbing himself, right?

No, now that was just a coincidence. What actually happened was that he was blessed by a magical, God-like spider spirit that passes it's power to a worthy person in each generation ala Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Seriously, that's really what they're going with now.

That actually makes me glad I don't read comics anymore. Somehow, the letters 'wtf?' don't do that plotline justice.

Ugh...horrible. It reminds me of some variation of the Earth-X Venom outfit crossed with the Scarlet Spider...don't ask why.

Man...just...ugh...to think I was considering getting back into comics...this has definitely set me back another few years...

N-no... they can't be doing this... I've loved Spider-man since I was SIX! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! -hugs- -weep-

you know you could read dc with infinate crisis around it is getting good

Eh...the only DC character I care for is Superman...and maybe the Flash, but that's it...

I don't know if magical fantasy realms and the Marvel Universe go well together. From what I understand of it, it is mostly a science fiction-based environment. True, there is little to separate these realms nowadays, but this is ridiculous.

wow they f***ed spider man up

Oh, and for those who don't know - Morlun is a magical energy vampire who can only feed on people who have superpowers relating to animals - and in the comics, he's Spiderman's numero uno villain lately.

Yeah, a vampire as powerful as the Hulk who can only eat people with Peacock or Gorilla or Armadillo powers . . .

Not like there aren't plenty of animalistic characters in Marvel (the Wolverine-esque ones ALONE number near the hundreds). But I do agree that Morlun's a good idea gone horribly wrong (and a good character design, although a little too...hobo-Dracula).

Now I need to get around to making my list of big screw-ups under Quesada's reign. Sadly, Spidey's new outfit will be lucky to make the top 10. Ok...MAYBE the top ten, but definitely not number one...not after gay-biker Wolverine. Nothing tops that in terms of wtf-iness.

Folks, don't look down on comics because of this atrocity. There are plenty of GOOD stories and characters in Marvel, DC, and all the other publishing companies. You just have to find the fresh ideas that DON'T involve the bastardization of a classic character. Or the killing of a classic character. Unless it's a good death.
