Which do you think is better for a fic, I personally think sequels are better as you find out how much a character(or characters) has changed since the last fic, although spin-offs focus on a minor character (or characters) who is a main character in the fic and you can see how he or she develop over the fic that you could not see in the fic they were in, so which is better, sequel or spin-off?

It really depends from fic to fic in my opinion. Many factors come into play when you decide how to follow up.

[Edit] Wow, sorry TTT. I *was* trying to reply to your topic in the comics sub-forum. ^^;; I must have just not been paying attention. ^^;;; *cough*

Anyway, sequel, definitely. You can still further develop characters and their individual antics by switching focus. There's no rule that says because you wrote the original one way the sequel has to be the EXACT same outline. Case in point: The Pern series by McCaffery. Or, rather, *anything* by McCaffery. She makes it a point to switch around her perspectives.

Now whether that be a good thing or a bad thing has yet to be determined.

I also think that sequels allow the author to stay in a certain mindset. It flows better than spin-offs, which can be overplayed and underwritten. ^^
