I'm waiting on baited breath for this game. I haven't been this excited about a game since the release of the very original Pokemon Red. Seriously, this thing is going to consume my life. I've wanted it for two years, and now that it's actually coming, I can barely contain my excitement. I just got a totally new computer specifically to play it.

I'm a little dissapointed that aquatic sentient creatures will apparently be saved for an expansion pack, but impressed that they managed to keep everything else planned for the game so far. I'm especially interested in the deal they're going to have where they'll sculpt custom toys of your creations for a fee and mail them to you.

Is anyone else waiting for it? It's coming in September, last Will Wright said. I'm already sorft of planning to try to make a race of sentient . . . elephant . . . thingies. Or something along their lines. A lot of people waiting for the game have already mapped out creatures they want to try out apparently.

The one thing that worries me about the game is the way your creations are shared without your permission. They're thinking of making a TCG using player created characters, which makes me question how they can claim copywrite on anything players create with their software. Perhaps they'll have to approach individual players and ask them for permission to market their creations? I really don't like the idea of them automatically owning any design you make for the game. Another thing I'm concerned about with the shared creature system is people recreating unoriginal characters and monsters and putting them on the servers to be randomly downloaded. I really don't want to visit a planet that happens to be full of nothing but but Spiderman or Pikachu. It would really throw off the game's immersion.

Thoughts?

Hmmm, it's hardly unusual for companies to claim copyright to all user-submitted content, even if it seems unethical. The legal basis for it is the fact that you are being licensed the software (you don't own a copy of a game, you only own a licence) and the fact that you will probably need to "sign" an agreement before being allowed to use their servers. So in other words, if you are concerned about it, please read through all the legalese instead of blindly clicking yes.

I so cannot wait for this game. I have been also waiting for two years for it to come out, and as for what I am gonna make, some sort of dragon species.

As for that legal stuff, I have absolutely no idea.

Well, they did announce that water thing about a year ago.. (Not that I need to tell you, I just wanted that too) I really want this game also, and I hope it really does come out in September, but who knows...

That property issue is kind of disappointing. I was hoping to try to make some characters for my own series for the fun of it, but now I can't. I know that they aren't going to give you any rights to keep them, their tools, their rules. I assume they'll just make you sign it over in a license agreement. I thought you could force some planets off-line though, to keep things private. Maybe that's a way to protect your property?
