Despite this subforum being generally well behaved, it doesn't hurt to have the "unwritten rules" written down somewhere for reference. Most of these will be common sense or generally the same as the overall rules present in the Artist's Alcove.
1. This forum is for sprites, "tiles" and pixel art only. What defines a sprite? A sprite is a digital, 2-dimensional graphic similar to those found in the Pokemon games. Tiles are background images used to set a scene. Pixel art is an image crafted entirely by hand, pixel by pixel.
2. No pornographic imagery. Since most sprites are small, censoring of naughty parts generally covers half of the sprite, so unlike the Artist's Alcove, "tasteful nudes" will not be allowed here.
3. Keep all of your art to a single topic, please. Having multiple topics spams up the forum and blocks other artists out of immediate view. Keeping all of your stuff in the same topic makes it easier to find, as well.
4. Be nice. Constructive criticism is a boon to any artist, expert or novice. If you don't like a sprite, explain why, how they could go about fixing it and offering encouragement. "It's shit." is not a good way to critique art.
5. Any sprites you post must be your own. Since most spriters make their work out of official sprites, this rule may seem a little vague. Splices and recolours are allowed. Basically, you must have edited the sprite in some form or it's not yours. Posting edits of others' sprites is not allowed unless they have given permission.
6. Requests and/or shops are to be made in the Artisan's Gallery. If you want to open a shop, IE other users request stuff from you, it belongs elsewhere even if it is sprite based. Requesters, please remember to keep requests to active shops only. Creating new threads in the Artisan's Gallery solely for requests is frowned upon.
7. This isn't something we can really infract you for, but when sharing sprites, please save them in .png format. Here's why:
See the difference? JPG compression format completely ruins sprites, so don't use it. If you don't have a program capable of saving in .png format, I suggest either Paint.NET or GIMP. These also allow for image transparency which is also a plus when posting sprites.
