You know what I don't understand? Conspiracy theories. Well, a lot of them anyway. I was just saw a clip today of the 700 Club where what's-his-name (the male host) said that liberals/ environmentalists (they're synonymous to nutcases) all want to destroy America, they want to stop cars in the streets, make us freeze over the winter, etc. And I'm sitting here thinking, is he really listening to what he's saying? Why the HELL would liberals want to do that?? We wouldn't benefit for doing such a thing! And I hear similar things about "conservative-perpetrated" conspiracy theories too. And I just wonder, why? Do these wackos think this is a video game or something where the opposing side is a pre-programmed villain with no thoughts of their own? (That didn't make any sense, but you know what I mean)

Conspiracy theories are dependent upon one believing there's more to things than is readily apparent. Any GOOD conspiracy theory is based on facts, and any good conspiracy theorist can back up what they're saying with facts (though, in all honesty, they might just be circumstantial evidence, not necessarily "facts"). Personally, I'm a conspiracy theorist. Why? It's fun. And it really conditions you to look beyond the facts you're presented with. It conditions you to not just accept what's said, but look for what's NOT said. And THAT is where every conspiracy originates. In what's NOT said. Or, in the case of Roswell, what's said and then retracted. It's also the result of facts NOT spoken about (EASILY the biggest source of nonsensical conspiracy theories).

And, of course, there are shadows in grassy knolls, "secondary explosions" (TWO different terrorist attacks with people who claim to have heard secondary explosions), and Jewish/gay/liberal/conservative/whatever groups working behind-the-scenes to change things because of their "Jewish/gay/liberal/conservative/whatever agenda."

As for the 700 club...it's less conspiracy theory, more ultra-conservative/religious agenda (see?).

The 700 Club is about taking the opposing arguement to its illogical conclusion for scare tactics than conspiracies. It's like the "we'll all be out of work and hip deep in owls" speech Bush Sr. gave. It works great on the base (who are usually uneducated or conditioned in the guise of education) to stir them up. However, any reasonable person would see right through what they're saying.

A good conspiracy theory makes even the skeptics stop and think.

Conspiracy theories are a load of crap. Why? Because people can't keep secrets. Even if you threaten somebody's life, people are so eager to talk and brag they'll do it anyways. Any conspiracy on a large scale (IE - more than 5 people) is doomed to failure.

Yeesh, I hate conspiracy theorists. Usually they take some disaster and fill it up with a load of bullshit. We're already fed that enough- adding to it is just a stupid, cruel move when it's yapped about- people affected by the situation had to put up with enough, without some asshat toying with facts and random crap to suit themselves. That's what politicians are for.

urgh, I hate how Religion is mixed with Conservative politics. They really should be 2 separate views, but both sides keep trying to keep them together (and I think that more than anything hurts their image on the outside)

But that's easily disproved by the lack of information on any number of stealth aircraft used by the US. Most of which, aside from the occasional overheard sonic boom, managed to remain in the shadows until officially revealed. Hundreds of people worked at Area 51, and flew out from Las Vegas (not TOO many people there, eh?), yet the government constantly denied it existed (and most skeptics seemed to agree with the government), yet lo and behold...it exists (though the alien thing was never proven). Or, hell, look at the Manhattan Project. They exploded a fucking nuclear bomb and people didn't suspect anything.

Besides, one person saying something doesn't undo a conspiracy. You can easily discredit a single individual. Hell, you can discredit an entire town. Unless they have hard evidence (which is a LOT harder to come across) than someone just saying something), it's hard to prove anything.

The greatest conspiracy is the spreading of the belief that conspiracies are impossible to carry off when the proof to the contrary is all around you.

What stealth? All you have to do is look up. People saw all kinds of triangular (or oddly-shaped) flying objects that went really fast and called them UFO's -- but that doesn't mean the planes were kept 100% secret -- it only means that the public has more imagination than brains. It's far more plausible for a UFO to be a "secret" government plane or something than an alien spaceship. All the superpowers have "secret" devices of some sort. Hell, Popular Mechanics talks about new fads in military equipment all the time. Some secret.

But no one knew what it was. They used the fact that they could deny it was UFOs (in a "wink wink" kind of way) to cover it up. No one knew for quite a while. They had inklings, but they didn't know. As for Popular Mechanics, that's called misdirection. By making it SEEM like they're giving out all this "top secret" knowledge, they're keeping certain key things secret. Stealth tech is no longer innovative. It's old news. So they can tell people about it. But who saw that heat ray thing coming? Or the sick ray?

As for UFOs and plausibility...when have those two EVER gone hand-in-hand? Either you've got the crazies "who dun seen one" (never mind that it's RIGHT NEXT to an airport) or you've got the government calling lights fucking "swamp fog" (despite it being nowhere NEAR a swamp) or whatever new BS they're using. No side really cares about plausibility. Though, if you want an example of a conspiracy theory-style thing that worked with UFOs, look up the phrase "Project Blue Book."

I did my high school thesis on Project Blue Book. Basically the government investigated UFOs and went "We have no idea what the fuck these things are *shrug*". They like to act like they know more than they do.

Eh, conspiracy theories arise whenever some people don't like the facts presented. Those facts are challenged by "facts" that can't be proven. That lack of proof is all it takes to make those facts true in the minds of conspiracists.

nice conspiracy

I got one too, Cant back it up with anything but logic, facts are said to exist, but i havent double checked,

so we need oil right? well thats easy, lets stage a big disaster, under the guise of terror, what better way to unite america under fear and infamy, fly planes into WTC, they crash down, not too short afterwards ( what was it? 17 hours?) Bush declares war on terrorism, sending our troops to afganistan to find a ghost it set up, after a while and no findings, announce that iraq a toleterian country without free trade with lots of oil, has WMDs,
there arent any of course, but america must defend itself! there could be enemies anywhere, so go there, debunk the toleterian head hancho and turn it around town, we arent looking for WMDs We are helping FREE the people of iraq, and help them set up a democracy, with free trade, of course, that means better prices for us on their oil, all to raid money for that 1%, i guess the billions of dollars from the government surplus wherent enough.

these are facts that are said to exist, but havent looked it up. People saw men enter and exit the WTC on 9/10, video captured flashes on four stories shortly before planes hit, indicating explosive charges, plane hit abandoned sector of the pentagon that was being "refurbished" and the like, out of the 8 buildings hit by planes in america only 2 have fallen, the WTC buildings,
