This place is literally driving me nuts. I used 20 Super Repels just wandering round trying to find my way through to Heatran. Having Buck with me is a hindrance too, as double battles just take to long to run from (some battles break through the repels). Has anyone got a simple guide saved, or any help at all when it comes to navigating this Hell Hole?

Tried that, but it's the fact I'm getting into battles in the first place that annoys me. It's a shame as it's an excellent place to train when I'm on my own. I've tried a Spell/Cleanse Tag (can't remember which it is that repels wild pokemon) also, but that lets quite a few double battles in. The layout of the place is so damn confusing too, it just makes me grind my teeth.

Now, this place is very large. There are Trainers and items scattered all
around. I will try to do my best to list the locations of all of them, but
your best bet is to just kind of do some exploring on your own. Just so you
know, your destination should be directly north of the door that you entered
from, although you will have to do a lot of manuevering to the west in order
to get there.

There is nothing waiting for you in the southwest corner, so don't even bother
going there. In the northwest corner, which is accessable from the lower-
level, you can move a boulder using Strength and fight the two Ace Trainers
(either in a Double Battle, or in a Single Battle if you talk to them
individually) that are guarding TM50 (Overheat) to the south.

A Calcium can be found in the middle area, in a trench, to the north of the
Black Belt and Birdkeeper. In the very southeast corner, past the two
Psychics, you can find an Iron Ball by walking down the steps and running to
the west in the trench there.

In the northeastern corner, head to the east until you reach the middle area.
Fight the Veteran and Dragon Tamer (either in a Double or Single Battle,
depending on how you engage them), then proceed up the stairs. To your left,
you will find a Max Revive.

Back at the northeastern corner, go a little bit south, then west. Climb up to
the upper level, and then go northwest and back down to the lower level,
fighting the two Ace Trainers. To the west of them, use Rock Smash and
continue westward, climbing up the stairs to the south and fighting the Dragon
Tamer and Black Belt in your way. Head west, around the parameter of the room,
until you reach some stairs leading down into a trench. Follow the trench
east, using Strength to move the boulder, and then up the stairs into a cave.

As you arrive, Buck will say some stuff, and then go into the cave. Follow him
inside, and he will then take some rock thing and leave. Now would be a great
time to use an Escape Rope!

Afterwards, return to the Survival Area and talk to Buck in the house to the
west of the Pokemon Center. He'll run off again, back to Stark Mountain, to
check out results of the earthquake that happened up there.

Make your way past the first part of the dungeon, to the very large room with
the zoomed out camera. You can now use Rock Climb to access shortcuts and more
items, so use that to make haste to the northern part of the cave, where the
rear cave was. Before doing so, you might want to pick up an Ultra Ball on a
large elevated area in the middle of the place (by the Birdkeeper and Black
Belt), and pick up a Max Elixir down a pit somewhere else in the area.

Inside of the room, in the center of the circle of rocks that you might have
noticed earlier, will be one big, ugly Heatran looking at you.

get pokemon with run away
Pkmn fled using Run away
????
Profit

Your repels aren't working because the pokemon in your area are higher in level. Put your highest-level Pokemon in front, and provided its level is higher than the Pokemon around you, you won't get into battles.

For an added effect until you get its level high enough, you could make it hold a cleanse tag. :p

I find that Pokemon with Stench ability + Cleanse Tag keeps away more wild battles than just the Cleanse Tag alone (or that one Incense...which one's better anyway?). But it might be coincidence, since I don't even know if those stack.

But yeah, the place might have been annoying, but the general idea is move north then west. Or northwest, as long as you don't get 'trapped' in the southern block of the place.

That's why you always carry Max Repels. ;P

In any case, your objective is to make it to the opposite side of where you enter... Just follow some paths, take the ones you think may lead you to your destination, and if you have to fight in battles, do so and get them out of the way now. That's what I did... Pick a random point, and follow it. It worked, as I finished that side quest up.

Waste of money, and I've done fine with Supers.

Probably what I ended up doing, getting stuck. Thanks for the pointers guys.
