“Do you ever wonder what's out there?”
“Like what?”
“There's so many stars. So many planets. People, just like us. Pokémon too.”
“Do you think we'll ever meet them?”
“I hope so. Don't you?”
Ryan forced himself upright. The lights of the city sparkled below him, almost reflecting the night sky above. He looked to his right and hung his head.
His journey had taken him to the three Cities in the East; he had learned so much in his two years working with his father, yet it never felt like enough.
He never felt complete. Complete would mean nameless faces in the middle of the dance floor. Hesitant hands touching. Fingers meeting fingers for the
first time and never letting go. He cupped his hands and warmed them with his breath. Four years today. He had been counting.
“You see all those stars? Millions and millions of them. They're the same stars as last week. The same as when we were kids. Those same stars have
been up there since before we were even born, and they'll still be there long after we're gone. But I … We're not like the stars. We can't stay the same forever.”
“You're leaving.”
“My dad wants me to travel with him. He wants me to train as a researcher just like he did.”
“How long will you be gone?”
“I don't know. A year. Maybe more.”
“Promise me something.”
“What?”
“Promise me you'll look up. Promise me you'll remember the stars.”
She was next to him again. Her dusty blonde hair falling over her shoulders, her ill-fitting jacket that was almost worn through. She was elbows and angles,
always with her head in books; or the clouds. Wide eyes and gangly legs and fast music. Breaking apart like nervous Ponyta at the end of every song; quivering
hands and faltering voices. He traced his fingers over where she used to lay. His dreams always included her, but he never let her know. She had her own dreams.
She wanted to train Pokémon; birds. It's all she ever talked about. Her own Pidgeot, or Swellow. She wanted to fly.
“I wish you could see what I can see right now. Listen, listen! They're singing! They're singing for you!”
“Is that … Taillow?”
“Hundreds of them!”
“It's beautiful. Do you know … Do you know when you'll be home?”
“I can't hear you! They're so loud!”
“I miss you.”
“What?! I can't...”
Eleni hadn't seen the City for over two years now. Everything was shiny new to her. The whole place hummed and buzzed and danced with light and noise
and danger. Delibird walked alongside. A stumbling, half-hopping, half-hovering walk; but a walk nonetheless. Eleni's journey had taken her across the
entirety of the region she called her home, at times she even came close to Johto and Kanto, but she always knew she would return. The hill still looked
the same as she remembered. The stars still looked the same.
“Let's go Deli.”
She ruffled the plume on the Pokémon's head. Four years today. She had been counting.

My first submission. Featuring a tiny homage to Halo 3. Hope you like it. Oh and it might take some getting used to my writing style, but hey variety is the spice of life or something like that. I realise it's short and would have worked without the Pokémon too, but then where would i post it
