I was thinking, all the starter Pokemon are Grass, Fire and Water types. I don't know if anyone else is thinking this, but it's a bit boring. Does anyone have any ideas why? And can anyone think of anymore starter combinations.

I thought it is because the three types form a triangle, in which one is always better then one but worse against another.

Prior to DP's release they were rumours that the starters would be Fighting/Psychic/Dark.

Maybe a possibility would be Electric/Flying/Bug-Ground? (Final forms are often not single types - look at Venusaur, Charizard, Swampert, Blaziken, Infernape, Torterra, and Empoleon).

No. I don't think you're getting it. The starters must create a triange, i.e. Grass is strong against Water, Water is strong against Fire, and Fire is strong against Grass. Kinda like Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Poison, Ground and Grass make a combination.
Electric, Water and Ground make a combination.
Steel, Rock and Fire make a combination.

There are plenty of possible combinations! No-one ever said you can't use fire, water and grass.

That's exactly what I said in the first post. Triangle.

You obviously didn't realize I wasn't talking to you. :dodgy:

Also, Electric, Water, and Ground don't work since Electric has no effect on Ground. And I don't remember Fire being weak against Rock.

Fire's weak to Rock. Ho-Oh and Charizard have a 4x weakness to it.

And the one Luis just said would work... if we ever got a pure Flying Pokémon.

messed there what i ment to say was

fighting
pshycic
dark

dark defeats pshycic, pshycic defeats fighting, and fighting defeats dark.

Master2.0

You're forgetting that Psychic has no effect on Dark. It has to be perfectly balanced.

In D/P the Fire type can trump the water type because since it's half-fighting and Empoleon is half-steel = Empoleon massacare. And then with Torterra it can take out Empoleon wit' Earthquake. It doesn't have to be PERFECTLY balanced. But more balanced than some things.

Empoleon isn't a starter. It's an evolved form of a starter, but not a starter itself. So far, the starters have been perfectly balanced, so why break tradition?

Hahaha! Thanks Geo! I was trying to explain it to the guy who said they weren't equal. The STARTING forms are equal... but the last ones are SO NOT! Water is sooo going to be neglected.

On the contrary, Piplup is the most popular starter. We recently took a poll.
