You are not shure what region you are in... nor the pokemon you recive as your starter... you are asked a simple question:

Grass, Fire or Water

you dont know what pokemon youll get but it you choose a type there is a 1 in 5 chance youll get the exact pokemon you want but there my be a pokemon that you cant stand within the same group... will you take this risk or go for a type where you know you wont be too disapointed

basicly what pokemon element would you choose and why...

GRASS TYPE
bulbasaur
chickorita
treecko
turtwig
snivy

FIRE TYPE
charmander
Cindaquil
Torchic
Chimchar
tepig

WATER TYPE
squirtle
totodile
midkipz
piplup
oshawott

Water for a few reasons.

1)Its very true that I may get a pokemon that I can't stand, so I have to compare the three types and the starters in each type to see which of the starters I disliked. Fire:Tepgig and not very fond of Charmander. Grass:Chikorita. Water:Mudkip. So there are 2 fire starters I wouldn't want and 1 grass and 1 water starter that I wouldn't want. I'm going to be honest, the fact that I Might get Chikorita, no matter how small of a chace there was, would keep me from choosing from the Grass element. After that there are 2 fire starters I wouldn't like to have, but only 1 water. So water wins, by default.

2)I always need a pokemon that can Surf because no matter what region you're in you'll have to Surf eventually and surfing might be a way for me to figure out where I am and it makes it easier for me to get around. There are less limits on where I can go if I have a pokemon with Surf.

3)Water is my favorite type in the series. In fact as of today i've used pretty much all water pokemon in Kanto and Johto and i'm working on the other regions now.

4)Just like there are starter pokemon that I dislike in each elemental group, there are some that I like. I'd compare each one that I like and see which would be the best to have. Fire:Typlosion. Grass:Sceptile. Water:Blastoise. Basically i'd ask myself which I would prefer of these three. The most useful I think (Not counting Surf) would be Typlosion, but Blastoise is my favorite pokemon. This and that fact that one good attack from Blastoise could KO Typlosion would be another reason i'd choose the Water element.

Overall i'd choose water based on the fact its my favorite type and the starter pokemon the element has.

I'd choose Water or Fire. I like every Water and Fire-type, so I wouldn't really mind. I would also choose Grass if I was sure I wouldn't get Chikorita. >_>

Why is there no love for Chikorita?

I'd personally take a gamble on fire. I know I would hate raising a Chimchar or Torchic, but the possibility of having Charizard or Typhlosion is worth it.

I had a Chikorita in SoulSilver and I ditched it after the 3rd gym, because it was so bad. I hated Chikorita ever since.

I picked fire because you're most likely to get a subtype (4/5) vs. the 2/5 for water and grass even though 3/5 of those times you're going to end up with fighting. Generally speaking for in-game runs the more subtypes and type coverage the better. Hell if i get charmander I won't feel oblidged to pick up one of those stuipid normal flying birds.

Grass.

Yeah, I'm not afraid to use Grass types. I wouldn't mind getting Bulbsaur, Chikorita, or Snivy. :-D

Grass.
Never had a problem with them. I'd like to get Chikorita, or maybe Turtwig, but I think all the Grass starters are fine.

in game - water - so I wouldn't have a problem who to give Surf. Especially in Gen IV & V where water pokemons are limited and most of them suck.

the "if pokemons were real" - I choose water still. Because it would be fun to bath in your pokemon's water gun.

Always Grass for me. Here's why, proving that a Grass-type starter is the best for every Generation:

Generation 1- You're able to blast through the first 3 Gyms, so you don't have to worry about catching a certain Pokemon until later. Plus Bulbasaur is cuter than the rest.

Generation 2- Catch a Geodude, and you'll blast through the first four Gyms. Chikorita is mostly there to help with the Kanto Gym Battles.

Generation 3- Again, you're able to get past the 1st Gym easily, plus Sceptile is very fast and very powerful.

Generation 4- Once again, you're able to blast through the 1st Gym. Plus Volkner will have nothing on your awesome Torterra.

Generation 5- There's a great abundance of Pokemon that can help you out in the first couple of Gyms, plus Snivy is the only one that looks cool.

I had a Chikorita and SoulSilver and I ditched it after the 3rd gym, because it was so bad. I hated Chikorita ever since.
Chikorita was the first Pokemon I ever owned... :bawl:

I've always gone with Water and it has always paid off.

You look up "Beast" in a Hoenn dictionary you'l see a picture of Swampert.
Same goes for Feraligatr.

Ah, Fire. Mainly because of it's power, but also because they can counter their weaknesses somehow. Each one of the Fire-Type starters can learn SolarBeam, and Emboar can learn Scald. He, Blaziken, and Infernape are part Fighting, neutralizing their Rock-Type weakness (to an extent.) Charizard is part Flying, ridding him of a Ground-Type weakness. Typhlosion is the only one without a sub-type, but he has a pretty decent movepool.

So yeah. Fire. FTW.:)

i went grass btw
dispite gf neglecting them in most generatoins of pokemon i still love them... i dont see how so many people hate chickorita when megainum is such a tank:mallet:

the only problem with grass types is they are too often given shit movepools (snivy probally being the worst so far):dead:

i guess it is partly because im an underdog person and i did predict that grass would probally finish last:bawl:

but who cares... GRASS FTW!!!

Definitely Fire. They have this aura of badassery. Besides, Water and Grass Pokemon are typically easier to find in the wild than Fire, so I won't be hurting for either type.

WATER FOR THE WINNNN!
I just find water better. I chose water in gen 1 all the time, tododile iz a boss, i ALWAYZ chose mudkip, i would choose piplup sometimes, BUT I NEVER CHOOSE OSHOWATT. :D
