Well this this happened back in the ol' days of Gen IV. Will Nintendo continue the cycle of Fire/Grass/Water or are they going to do something new?

Thoughts? Ideas? Think I'm stupid for asking?

Grass/Fire/Water is the way to go. Lots of fans would be upset if they change!

I'd love love love love loooove a dark / fighting / psychic one but I think Nintendo are going to stick to the formula that hasn't failed them in 4 generations.

Why would they want to take such a big risk? If I don't like the starters there's a good chance I won't like the game in general because of that.

I actually think that it is possible that the whole scheme of the new Trainer will be scrapped in Pocket Monsters 5. Maybe there won't be starters at all. Masuda said we will wonder if "this is (really) Pokemon".

Grass, water, fire. They're starter Pokemon. They're for starters.
Those are the most basic Pokemon there are. That makes sense for beginner gamers and ingame beginner trainers.

Unless you go and get your own Pokemon they won't change it.

If Butterfree's server wasn't kicking everyone's asses, I'd link to her. She makes a point that Grass/Fire/Water is the only feasible that a complete newbie to the series would get.

Or somthin' like that.

Dark/Fighting/Psychic starters were widely rumored last gen and look what happened. Though it would definitely be a welcome change that mixes things up, I don't see them doing that. They'll probably stick with Grass/Fire/Water.

What I'd really like to see is their final evolutions have typing that can work against the type they started out weak against - Grass-Rock, Fire-Electric, and Water-Flying, for instance. That would be interesting.

So do I.
They don't have to stay weak against their rivals forever now do they?

This is why Magmar and Electrabuzz should not breed durr.

But Grass/Fire/Water is the way to go. Change = Bad.

Fire/Grass/Water is the eternal system. They won't change it another five generations from now.

It's a broken system, that. A fire attack would at least injure a water-type, no matter how minuscule the damage. A psychic attack won't injure a dark-type one iota. Guess which pogey ain't ever gonna be picked?

If no new types are introduced, they should definitely keep Water/Grass/Fire and add secondary types if needed.

not true. I would either pick it or dark because they're my favourite types. It's the ultimate Easy/Hard choice.

What do you mean "happened back in the ol' days of Gen IV"? All that happened was that a rumour got taken seriously.

That's never happened before [/sarcasm]

They'll never change the Grass/Fire/Water starter set as explained, it's the best way for a newbie to learn about the ever-complicated battle system the game has built up over the years.

It's easy to explain why one type beats another. Grass gets burned by Fire, Water puts out Fire and Water gets absorbed by Grass. Try explaining why Dark beats Psychic or why Fighting beats dark.

i wouldn't so much mind if they changed the starter line up. but i'd be ecstatic if they let us chose from a broader selection. like we could have a pichu if wanted, but then there's also this gastly over here.

i'm only using those as an example because i obviously can't spell the later generation of pokemon names. I was calling Palkia- Pocky for the last year.

A psychic attack won't injure a dark-type one iota.

Hmm I wonder if there's some move that can allow psychic type moves to hit dark types...

I really don't care, I mean yes I would like the grass/water/fire thing to remain the same and just add different secondary types, but it doesn't really matter to me, just as long as they have at least a fire, water, and grass Pokemon that looks like it could be a starter (as in Basic-Evolution 1- Evolution 2) but is just a different part of the Pokedex.

All that I can say to that is FUCK THE N00BS!!!

I'm not serious, they'll never change it unless Nintendo decides to release a dangerous new Teen Pokémon RPG...*imagines* *drools*
