So all the stat up pages have been edited to say that they will do nothing if the stat has reached a value of 999. However, to my understanding, this limit does not exist in the fourth generation era. I had asked experienced players in the early days of the metagame and recently asked about it now and no one says the stat is limited to 999.
So I'm wondering why this was edited there, and that if anyone who has a Pokemon that has a +1 stat modifyer on a stat with atleast 200 points in said stat to test this out.
+1 modifyers over +2 so we get a more accurate result. After using it five times, the sixth one should say that that it had no effect.
Only in Gen II did the stats ever roll back to zero and start counting up again if you went over 999. Everyone I had asked had said otherwise about the 999 limmit, and using damage calculators have suggested the same thing.
Even Smogon, which is known for extensively testing for anything related to competitive play says otherwise. They have an article on stats with hypothetical calculations going over 999, and absolutely no mention on limits. click
