Hello from Costa Rica!

I'm currently on holiday here with my wonderful fiancée, Kasumi, but it's worth taking a break from the sun and beaches to keep everyone up to date on the state of Bulbagarden

It's been a long time since I've done one of these, hasn't it? ^^;;;
If I remember correctly (though I'm sure some veteran member will correct me), the last time was around the end of 2006. Things have changed a lot since then. Thanks to the contributions of you — our members — Bulbagarden has continued to thrive. The past few years have seen new successes, like our BulbaJournals blogs, and the continuing growth of older projects, like Bulbapedia and Bulbanews.

I'd like to say a few words on our finances. I'm sure our long-time members remember our annual donation drives where we've had to call on the generosity of members to keep the site up and running. I'm glad to announce that, despite a 400 percent growth in server costs over the past year, finances are not currently an issue. As some of you have no doubt already noticed, all donation buttons have been removed from the site. I'd just like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank all our donors for their contributions. Without you, we would have never gotten to this point of self-sufficiency.

I'd like to shift focus at this point from the past to the present and future. Bulbagarden has a number of exciting things going on now and even more excellent projects planned for 2009.

"Project Overgrow" is the name of our site improvement project for 2009. Headed up by Bulbagarden Executive Administrator evkl, Project Overgrow's main goal is to provide cutting-edge, efficient, and in-demand services to the community. We've already come up with a number of projects and ideas to put in place over the first few months of 2009 with many more to come over the rest of the year as dictated by the needs of the community.

A priority of the project is the reintroduction of the Gallery and Library. We have already commenced work on both of these features behind the scenes. At present, we expect both of these projects will go live sometime early in the second quarter of 2009 with improved functionality and security. At this stage, we are looking for feedback and suggestions from the community about what sort of functionality members are looking for from the Gallery and Library (and other areas!) so we can best cater to what you want to see. If you have suggestions, questions, or just want to talk about these projects, feel free to send a message to any of the administrators.

As for everything else... Well, that's just going to have to be a surprise for now. ;) Keep watching the forum announcements and Bulbanews for further updates.

For now, happy holidays, and thank you all once again for making Bulbagarden the wonderful community it is today.

All the best,
Archaic

You guys know what this means for Bulbapedia...

ROUNDYCORNERS FOR EVERYONE! And anipngs! And fun stuff like that.*

*Please note that you're not missing much by not having the ability to see png animation or rounded table corners, for real. Anipngs render as static in incompatible browsers, and the table corners are square.

I only recently joined, so I'm not exactly sure why the library and gallery closed.

By "tables", you meant...?

TTE is talking about the Bulbapedia. The Library and Gallery closed due to a major security flaw in the software we were running, so instead of using something unsafe, we closed shop on them. We have yet to find a suitable replacement.

Oh, cool! I hope to start contributing more on Bulbapedia . . I must admit though I'm unsure of how Bulbanews runs. I'll have to look into that later today.

And are we still able to donate despite the lack of donation buttons? I had planned to do that in this new year.

GAH! ROUNDYCORNERS ARE EVIL!

and dont show up on 3/4 of my browsers

Do you still have the Bulbacasts. What even happened to that?

They were canceled a while back and then a few people attempted to restart them, but that was eventually aborted. Interesting developments at bulbagarden, I am looking forward to the future.

So am I. Its interesting to see what Bulbagarden will do next.

Don't spam links here, man. Especially on an old thread.
