I accidentally posted this in a wrong forum so I had to move it here. :p I'm such a man-ditz!

But anyway, does anyone else think it's strange that Steelix is the only Steel-type that can't learn Iron Defense? I checked. Every single other Steel-type Pokémon can learn Iron defense. It's crazy!!!

Or does it not learn it because it already has a super high defense stat?

And it learns Rock Polish instead. Sure I want my Steelix to be fast.

Personally, I prefer Defense over speed, but Steelix does have horrible speed considering that it drops 40 base stat points from 70 to 30 upon evolution so I see what you mean. And I guess that sucky speed is balanced out with those 40 points moving from Speed to Defense. But I still wonder why it doesn't learn Iron Defense?

And IslandWalker, awesome avatar! :D

So can I name other Pokémon who can't learn attacks that they obviously should learn, or we already have a thread for that?

Anyway, LeafBlade, Blaze Kick and Muddy Water should be learned by far more Pokémon, if GameFreak dicided to destroy Signature Moves, they should do it right.

hmm weird fact. Ah well, there are some other cases like this, but I can't recall them.

It's really weird that Steelix can't learn Iron Defense, despite being a Steel type. I don't know why, though.

It should be able to learn Iron Defense, because many non-steel type Pokémon learn it, such as Slowbro and Slugma.

Now that's just crazy, but then again Steelix already has a really impressive defense stat anyways.

Steelix almost has the highest defense stat in the game (shuckle has the highest but no one cares for shuckle) why would it need more defense?

I care for shuckle too! Don't hate on shuckle.

Look how sad you made him!

Shuckle doesn't learn Iron Defense either, since we are on it.

Steelix does learn Curse though, does he not? Why would he need Iron Defense? I know it makes sense...but...I don't know...

Yes it is strange, but a Steelix with Iron Defense that has time to set up might be game breaking. After a single Iron Defense, its Defense becomes 998 (assuming a plus Defense Nature and Max EV/IV's). After 2, it hits 1497. 3 Iron Defenses, and you've got 1996 in Defense. No Physical Attacker is going to take that down. Even an Earthquake from Rampardos after a Swords Dance only does about 20% damage there. (Of course, Surf from practically any Pokemon will kill it)
