Jumping on the Envoy bandwagon, with a twist. These guys aren't Pokemon but that doesn't mean they can't be compared like them. They were both Hoenn Champions within the same generation. Even other canons like Pokemon Special and possibly the anime (not sure if Steven was ever called Champion there), they were both canonically the champions of Hoenn. So I ask you...

Who do you like better?
Who had the better team?
How do you feel about the shift in Emerald?

People now? Alright...

I prefer Steven. By far. Not because I'm especially attatched to him (Cynthia and Blue are the most epic Champions ever), but because I find that giving Wallace a promotion was completely unecessary.

I also never liked Wallace's design.

While Steven's personality is very bland, like most of the Hoenn characters, I do find that he's the better champion.

Steven. His personality fits a Champion better than Wallace.

Steven. About time we had a Steel Champ. Wallace...hes just creepy. Even though Steven sucked in the anime, I still prefer him.

Steven, in every aspect, well, at least Wallace has a CAPE.

Shouldn't this be a poll..? Steven is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler.

I dunno they're both good looking, Lance is the only champ with the cape IMO but Wallace was tough...but I did like Steven because you saw him more than Wallace so yeah I prefer him (can see himand in-game May shipped together too)

Steven was pretty great, and I was glad to see him cameo in Pt. and HGSS. I hope he comes back in Gen V. Dude rocks...probably my favorite champion design wise, and his team rocked too.

Also, not in the poll, but Juan >>> Wallace also.

Like better: Steven

Better team: Steven (Wallace has the same type Pokemon as Juan)

Thoughts on the Emerald shift: Steven's Pokemon getting stronger in there may prove that he may become the Champion again.

Steven please. At least his Team wasn't 100% Steel and wasn't like Lance's either in that it was horribly crippled by one/two Types. The use of Steel Pokémon that had amazing coverage in Type resistance and immunity, as well as two Rock Pokémon to counter the more common weakness, and Claydol to deal with Fighting and Ground users (Which were damn well covered despite the Team's overall theme, and only one of his Pokémon was actually weak to both) made it a very well-balanced Team that, though with a clear contained theme, was almost as good as Gary's Blue's and Cynthia's mixed Teams.

Wallace didn't have such luck. Though it helps he had the most diverse Type of all, and went out of his way to use many of the most helpful Combinations all over his Team... he was still an all-Water user. Though it's nowhere near as bad as Lance's (But too close. Four Pokémon are weak to Electric, Four to Grass, and the only real wild card is Ludicolo, who can take both of them), it was still boring and monotonous. After Steven, he was a big letdown. As characters, I prefer Steven as well. Never really liked the flamboyant type, though it isn't that bad.

So yeah. Alongside this, we didn't even get the chance to rebattle Steven as much as we wanted in Emerald. One of the few things where Ruby/Sapphire beat it.

I think having two champions was s good move on the writers part because of how we don't have an established champion for Kanto that isn't the player character (Red/Blue)

Easily Steven, he's tougher not to mention cool looking.i like wallace too but he looks kinda creepy.

Am I the only person who likes Wallace more?

I like Wallace more because him being the Champion came as real surprise to me. The moment I met Steven the second time, I guessed he probably was the champion. My friend hadn't played RS before and even he thought Steven would be the champ in emerald because you ran into him so many times but he was pleasantly surprised when Wallace turned out to be the champ. Steven had no real personality as such. Wallace had a personality. He was all for graceful Pokemon. Wallace's mentor making a come back and Wallace ascending to the level of Champion was interesting. I prefer having Steven as an endgame boss rather than ordinary champion. Wallace's and Steven's expanded roles were great even though the dialouge in the Cave of Origin was poorly written.

I like Wallace. Just as a Gym leader. He seems to suit the title "Gym Leader" more than "Champion". Plus, he's one of my favourite Gym Leaders.

However Steven is badass, and I like him better(It's close though), I must say(Hmm, it seems like I'm the only one who hasn't really seen him "bland" as such). He has the whole "Champion" thing about him(Unlike Wallace, who really just seems more "Gym Leader ish" IMO)

Why not add a poll, Outrage? You can find the option to add one under Thread Tools at the top of the thread.

Who do you like better?

Personally, I liked them both as characters, and both of them had pretty cool designs. I guess I prefer Steven just a little bit more.

Who had the better team?

Steven, most definitely. For a team comprised exclusively of Water Pokemon, Wallace was surprisingly difficult to defeat, but Steven had more of an overall balanced team.

How do you feel about the shift in Emerald?

I preferred having Steven as a Champion, honestly. I didn't like battling a Water-type based Champion right after battle Juan, a Water-type based Gym Leader. And Steven's more powerful and balanced team felt more appropriate as a Champion's team. Nevertheless, I did like Steven's role as a sort of secret trainer, hidden way back in Meteor Falls. I would still prefer to have Steven as the Champion, though.

Its funny how so many people complain about Juan and Wallace both having water type teams yet so few do the same for Clair and Lance.

I guess that's because the common concensus is that Dragon=awesome but Water=meh. To be fair though, Clair is the only Dragon type Gym leader, whereas you have Misty, Wallace (RS), Juan (E) and Wake as Water type Gym leaders. It's possible people are just tired of so much water.
