Alright I saw the topic about "Pauls overpowered pokemon" and I mentioned how my team could beat him. Then I thought after a reply from another user saying how he could also beat Paul. So here is a topic to find out how you'd defeat Paul's pokemon. I'll say a pokemon to start off and respond with a strategy you'd use against that pokemon. Then you give one for the next one.

Starting off: Magmortar

Use a Wailord with Water Veil. Magmortar will go down fast against physical attacks, and Water Veil will protect Wailord from getting burned by Magmortar's Flame Body. As another plus, Wailord has a strong attack stat.

There is not such a thing as stats in the anime...

I'd be a smart@$$ and use my Quilava(i'm saying this in an anime sense), using his speed, aggressive attack patterns aided with Double Team and defenses(including a Lava Plume Wall(i assume Lava Plume creates jets of lava from the ground), Counter Shield, Reversal, and Flame Wheel/Rollout to deflect attacks) to overwhelm Magmortar, ocassionally use a Flare Blitz into his Flamethrower to surprise him, use a Double Team/Agility combo called(stolen from Code Lyoko) Triangulate and when Magmortar is confused just use Flare Blitz or Fire Blast to strike him good. And the pokedex does say Quilava has inflamable fur which protects him from a burn.

Okay now moving onto.......Ursaring

Maybe not, but I think "is a SUPERMASSIVE FREAKING WHALE" is a good substitute for a physical power stat.

I dont know...it a massive whale strikes more as being defensive or at last have a lot of resistance that necessarily being offensively powerful.Whales just...dont seem offensive, its not in their nature.

Ohh, I'm game. I'll catch up. I'll be using my HG/SS team for this.

Magmortar: Either my Azumarill or Donphan

Ursaring: I have only one thing that can fight Normals properly: My Typhlosion with Brick Break. Otherwise, I'd break out something really powerful, which would would probably be Donphan assuming I know his Ursaring has Guts.

Imagine getting tackled by that. Yeah.

Make Ursaring fight a war of attrition. Go with something like Exeggutor and try to pummel his accuracy with Flash, sniping with Egg Bomb and Leech Seed, with Light Screen as a defensive option. You can't play to a status condition because of Guts. We've only seen normal and ghost moves, but Paul isn't insane enough to have no plan for a ghost; he is, however, impatient. If he does the right thing and switches, you can get a Solarbeam going for the next opponent while he's at it. Probably want to use Ingrain early in case of Roar.

Ursaring has only Normal- and Fighting-type moves. That being said, any Ghost-type with good attack/special attack and some good non-Ghost moves will beat Ursaring.

May I just add no need to be serious cause this is mainly for fun.

I'd use Medicham against Ursaring(from my Hoenn team) and use various Fighting type moves, throw in Double Team again, use Psychic as a defense, try and inflict a status effect maybe paralysis from Thunder Punch, and when Guts activates....Bulk Up. Idk what i'd do for counters, Reversal, some speed to dodge maybe Light Screen, or High Jump Kick to get away and strike. Or I'd try and put it to sleep, use Dream Eater and destroy it.

Okay. I just don't see what's not funny about Ursaring getting all pissed off trying to fight a ghost.

I agree it'd be funny, and then Paul would be pissed as well! Lol it'd be fun pissing him off when you're an amazing trainer, only a fool would question it, and you are close to your pokemon.

But i just want people to remember we're trying to have fun with this.

Or you could even just do an Aerial Ace to the nuts for Ursaring.

Here's one, let's not attack a bulked up, guts enabled Ursaring head on. I was trying not to yell at Ash's stupidity in that case :-/

I think that I will use my Infernape with Endeavor to beat his most powerful Pokémon, my Gengar to beat his Ursaring and my Wobbuffet to prevent him from switching out. ^^

Alright BlazingQuilava,
I like this thread already, and yeah I would use awesome strategy against Paul and his Pokemon. Let’s look at the Pokemon that we know he has: Torterra/Weavile/Ursaring/Honchrow/Electavire/Magmortar/Lairon (possibly Aggron)/Gliscor/Hariyama/Nidoking

Hope you don’t get upset at me but I wanted to explain how I would take down all of his Pokemon. This is for fun, so I will attempt to not be too longwinded with strategy, but this is Paul we are talking about and not a trainer to take lightly.

Ok, his strategy is like this Roark said this during their battle: “I get it now, your strategy isn’t about type at all, and you just use the best possible battle style at that moment!” I took that into account and realized that this trainer is good; he has no one set strategy, rotates his Pokemon as well as their attack moves and doesn’t rely on types to win a battle (well most of the time anyway). Many of you talked about Ghost types against Ursaring, but remember what he said in “Aiding the Enemy”: “All you have to do is just keep hammering away and her ghost Pokemon will just fall over. I don’t know if he did use Ursaring against Fantina, but even if he did it wouldn’t surprise me if he had taught it a few moves for that match like Crunch or Faint Attack.

Also, remember that he likes to switch Pokemon in battle for advantage, whether it be a superior type or because of a Pokemon’s ability like Guts/Static/Flame Body. You know I am going to just post this up and later enter in my ways to beat his Pokemon because I don’t want to post up a mega sized post.

Wobbuffet is the perfect counter of Shinji's strategie. He prevents him to switching out and he is able to do a lot of damages. Of course, he can't beat all of Shinji's Pokemon but he can beat all his Pokemon which haven't a bug or dark move. Then, a Pokemon with Endeavor can easily beat his best Pokemon (Electivire or Torterra). Anf finally, a Pokemon which can have a lot of different moves like Gengar can beat a lot of Pokemon.

(Sorry if my english is not good, it's hard to explain in english ^^")
