Do you believe in the use of Strategy Guides?

I do, but it's like only after you beat the game or you're having real trouble with ab puzzle.

I don't use strategy guides because of the risk of spoilers.

Usually I'll have lines of communication (online or off) to get one specific bit of help. That way I don't spoil the rest of the game, and I don't have to shell out AU$30 for the complete guide.

I use them when I'm completely desperate, or I need 100%

I used to always buy a strategy guide with my games and use them whenever I got the least bit stuck or confused. My main reason, though, was always to view the official art and learn of secrets and cameos I wouldn't otherwise be aware of. I don't get 'em anymore, because of space and money issues, and instead head on over to GameFAQs whenever I'm absolutely stuck and simply can't move on without a bit of help.

As for whether or not strategy guides are ethical, people should be able to play video games however they please and no one has the right to tell them otherwise.

Sometimes when I'm stuck on a game and happen to be visiting GameStop, I grab guides from the shelf and skim only the part I'm stuck on. But other times they keep the guides wrapped in plastic or behind the counter so you have to buy them before you can see anything. =/
These days GameFAQs is usually my solution.

I buy strategy guides, but only for RPGs (charts and the like). And I buy the Prima Pokemon ones, not just because they're more thorough than the "official Nintendo Power" ones, but because they're full of shiny Sugimori art and are artbooks as much as they are guides.

Only times I use strategy guides is for maps. For some reason, I can never find good game maps on the internet.

Otherwise "lol internet :p"

I dont use them. I use GameFaqs Instead (they even have Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing. :-D) I would buy GameGuides used anyway (like i do my games).

I buy them when I feel like it, or when I know I'll more than likely get stuck in a game. I have a couple Zelda guides (that almost double as artbooks, there's art all through 'em), and a few Pokemon ones. Generally, I like getting them for games with a ton of sidequests ('Tales of' series, I'm looking at you...)

I prefer using guides over the internet, since everything's right in front of you, and there's no need to waste electricity :p If I do need to use online guides, sometimes I'll write down or print off the parts I need if I can (unless it's a whole walkthrough or something).

I own one strategy guide for Rogue Squadron for Game Cube, the Prima version and I must say that I am rather happy with that purchase. Other than that I own no guides and would always use GameFaqs or other free online resources instead.

I used to only buy Nintendo Power strategy guides for Nintendo games, but ever since Nintendo Power got bought out by another company, it seems that they stopped making them. Now it's Prima guides that I have to buy... :p

I use them for the maps and charts and stuff so I can better plan ahead and not have to retrace my steps.

The only time I get strategy guides is when I get them for free, for instance when I got the Super Mario Galaxy guide when I preordered the game.
